Santa Anita for Friday 26 Feb 2010
Handicappers Corner
Last time I suggested that we had a good playable card was on the 20th of Feb. and we had quite the day. Well this card looks as good to me with all the races appearing playable with 4 of the 8 races having "above average clarity" and the other 4 having average to slightly above average clarity.
Â
Race 1Â Â Â above average clarity
3 Park Time Luck  sharp claim by Hollendorfer......horse has been competitivein all four lifetime races.....both races run at 6 F are better figs than these have run
4 You Know I Wancha  solid improvement with the blinkers added in her last 2 races......6 1/2 F helps because she finishes strong when some others in here flatten
Race 2Â Â Â above average clarity
6 Get Off The Sugar  won nicely at this level in last fresh off of the bench and seemingly runs fine back in 2 or 3 weeks rest.....should be prominent thru-out
4 Sidepocket Lou  sharp gelding right now.....good rider/trainer team...jockey Amador usually rides well when he gets a capable horse like he did yesterday with our top pick in the 2nd race where he gave a Willie The Fox a stellar ride....very underrated jock
5  Aquicksting  last win for this front running typewas with today's jock....will try to clear and take them gate to wire   Â
Race 3Â Â Â above average clarity
4 Lullabytime  has been facing quite a bit better and there seems to be a high likelihood that Talamo will be able to get over andsave some ground on or near a slow pace
6  Powerofvoodoo  last win came with short rest like today......does tend to hang in the stretch...also has been facing better
1 Spell Caster  needed last off of the layoff and ship from overseas......works are sharp and I believe this mare will be on or near the lead in this pace-less affairÂ
Race 4   average clarity
4 Ivory Fudge  sure like young horses who are proven at sprint distances and have been routing and now turn back in distance to a 7 F sprint...that's the scenario for this Sadler charge
6 Fly Boy  bred to sprint and this 1ster is training sharply for O'Neal who had great successwith 1st time starters in 2009
5 Sand Seas  showed life back in Nov in his MSW debut......laid up 3 months but training well enough to be considered ready off the break
Race 5   average clarity
1 Our Partner  extremely consistent figs that fit......Mitchell trained.....Bejarano up......and the 1 post at 1 mile.....too many in the plus column to ignore
6 Skellytown  deservedly steps up after having won 3 straight races on the grass.......appears to be on the improve....appreciates the 1 mile distance
7 Kris Silver needs to avoid a speed duel with the 3 horse or will most likely be cooked...does hint that he might rate and still perform well
Race 6Â Â Â above average clarity
8 Total Bull  Powerful efforts in all three lifetime races including an eye popping run in last getting caught wide pressing a monster pace....1st long but bred well for it......should be prominent thru-outÂ
5 Launching Pad  only route race was easily the best effort of this 4 year old's career.....back to a route today after a so so sprint run.....solid relatively new trainer
3 Never  very well proven at a route...has caught some tough fields
7 Mr. Hot Stuff  blinkers off this colt in hopes of finding last years ability....ran 3rd with them off last year in the SA derby
race 7Â Â Â average clarity
3 Lamm  earned a solid fig and a poor positional grade from Top Turf Today yet still managed a closing 3rd off of a long layoff.....proven long and adds blinkers so I expect this colt to sit close up in a race seemingly set for speed
4 Temerity  showed life in only grass race which was in a sprint...proven at a route on the AW so this gelding so do just fine around 2 grassy turns as well...owns a little speed in a race void of it
8 Brushburn  tough 8 post especially with the rail out at 30 feet but owns some strong turf figs...Talamo needs a clever ride
2 Warren's Tony R.  some of this colt's better runs are fresh off of the bench like today
race 8Â Â average clarity
8 Renzo Sean  solid move forward in last......that race would make him the one to beat...any move forward and he would be very tough to beat
6 Prince Novetti  good trainer/rider team.....bad trip in last yet still ran 2nd at today's level
9 Casa O  nothing special about the morning work tab but Sadler has had many 1sters ready to roll for their debut for the past 15 months or soÂ
3 Who's Your Widady  showed little in only start last July but takes that ever dangerous drop out of MSW to the bottom
5 Bernsie's Baby  last race fits for this level....but....when was the last time Van Berg got 2 straight good  races out of a horse
