Santa Anita for Thursday 4 March 2010

Handicappers Corner
Our results were fairly decent yesterday considering how difficult the card appeared to be. But I sure wish Talamo could have avoided a fast paced duel with our 31 to 1 top pick in the 7th. He finished 4th but only got beat by 3/4 of a length for the win. Much better looking card today with seemingly every race playable.
Race 1Â Â Â average clarity
5 Smokey Beau  Jock J C Leyva is back and gets a fresh well worked animal for his 1st mount...has decent speed to handle the 5F distance and owns solid figs versus these
10 Warren's Big Eagle  debut race 3 weeks ago fits fine......expecting as much effort today but must overcome a difficult 10 post at 5F...Amador is capable of a clever ride
7 Valiant Wonderboy  horse flashes speed and then hits a brick wall but the barn has put some long work into him seemingly to help his stamina....and of course a 5F affair is just what he needs
3  A Pint For Mary  solid move forward in last in both pace and final time
Race 2Â Â Â above average clarity
5 Lady Alex  talk about on the right end of the learning curve...just keeps getting better and has handling multiple surfaces and distances...great claim by Sadler
1 Saucey Evening  seems to excel on the Pro-ride surface....needed last and I sure believe we will see plenty more today
3 Alice's Smart  last looks like a turf tightener...owns a significant fig run last Fall on the AW at Kee.
Race 3Â Â Â average clarity
7 Worth A Punt  caught some very solid grass runners in all 3 endeavors on the green stuff...grass figs fir well.......barn gets it done in grass races
4 Unusual Encounter  sure like the fact this colt proved he can handle a route of ground on the AW in his winning 2nd lifetime run....bred just fine to handle the sod
5 Guerrero Negro  trainers heating up and he's got a solid record 1st on the turf....on the improve with every race on the AW...can be prominent throughout if this colt takes a liking to the lawn
6 Frank The Goat  in seemingly good form and proven long....1st on the sod with so so breeding for it
Race 4Â Â Â average clarity
4 Dame Camille  best drills from Powell for such a low level race and he makes a positive rider switch....1st at a route but bred to prefer it over sprinting
1 Secret Oath  two decent lifetime races both in sprints....long we go today with a good post and a trainer who is solid 1st time at a route
9 The Legal Blonde  very logical drop for this filly who hasn't earned her keep....good trainer/rider combo of late
6 Warrensmysterydice  last looks like the sprint tune-up to be full throttle today in her 1st route race...blinkers off and that is often a good thing for Gutierrez horse's
Race 5Â Â Â slightly above average clarity
10 Lucky Got Lucky  solid improvement in both pace and final time....hot rider/trainer team...very consistent most of career
2 Soldier Betty  brand new apprentice gets his 10 lb break on the seemingly best closer in the race......hang on kid because you should be flying late...just claimed by a barn that's having a solid meet...working well
8 Argenta  blinkers back on can help.....turf to AW should help...but most of all the logical 50% drop in claiming price should help
9 Pivotal Queen  very tough call for this laid up mega drop down....toss a coin
Race 6Â Â Â above average clarity
10 Valid Mecke  solid return to the race wars after the prolonged layoff......can move forward 2nd out and back on the grass
7 Storm Brave  earned a somewhat hidden AW fig in last with a bad trip.......has back figs on the sod that fit well with these
11 Cee Bargara  strong numbers on Top Turf Today.......softest he may have ever faced...but....is unproven on the SDA hill and tends to hang
9 Within Reason  speed of the speed has about a 60 to 70 % shot to get loose...needs his best stamina he has shown in a long time or a slow pace
Race 7Â Â Â above average clarity
6 Harissa  big move forward wide close to solid pace in her latest.....training like she has remained in the same form
1A Seattle Smart  very strong in only lifetime run on an AW surface which was at Kee.....that came after a turf race which is today's scenario
7 Sister Dawn  boxed in maiden debut but she sure run strong once she got free....hand ride in says plenty left for today
Race 8Â Â slightly above average clarity
(time's running out...remember study first then type.....so as not to mess with the amount of time studying)
7Â Spanish Bunny
4Â Torrey Cliffs
3Â Foxy approval
1Â Streamline Baby
10Â Wedding Gift
(number 13 is a factor if she draws into the field)
