Handicappers Corner

Good news.....Bad news.....Bad news first.....lack of entries for Thursday at Hollywood....carded canceled.....Good news.....This Friday, I'm doing a race show at my old stomping grounds, Arlington Park where years ago I used to be the guest Television Handicapper now and then. So, I have decided to post my selections for AP on-line free of any additional cost for The Racing Digest members. AP post time Friday is 3 pm Central, 1 pm Pacific. 

 

Recomended pick 3 part wheels start in the 6th race

race 1    average clarity

5  Seeuat Sticknstein   Mitchell is winning at a 40% clip this meet and has a stellar history when he privately takes over a racehorse...laid up but good works...last 2 figs run at 6 furlongs are solid for today's level

1  Days Of Lightning   good chance to sit close to a reasonable set of fractions and go on with it in the stretch

 

race 2    average clarity

3  Moonstruck Maya   mom has yet to produce a winner in 3 foals but this 1ster has fast tightly spaced drills and the connections to get the job done

4  Forty Paces   best set of works for a 1st timer from the Palma barn in quite some time.......works suggest plenty of early speed in this girl

 

race 3    slightly above average clarity

3  Tweebster   very aggressive work tab in preparation for this fellow's 1st route run......love the 111:4 just 6 days ago......looks like a good chance to be lone speed as well...killer combo in Baffert & M Garcia

1  Hog's Hollow   very strong late runner steadily is improving...exits a good field of grass horses where he only lost the top prize by a little more than a length...should be able to relax in the rear of the field and fly late

5  Premier Cru   became a bonafide racehorse in his last after he ran a clunker in his MSW debut......training sharply and bred to handle a couple of turns

 

race 4    average clarity

3  Seductionist   2 decent efforts under her belt and will try to get the extended one turn affair of 7 1/2 furlongs...bred fine to handle it...barn has quietly had a good meet and a good 2010 

7  Harmony's Hope   fairly consistent sort....figure earned basically fits for this level in 5 of her last 7 races

6  Miss Manhattan   seemingly has the best early speed in this spot....7 lbs off with the capable apprentice up....wire to wire shot

4  Binky's Sister   earned a par like effort with a difficult 4 wide trip in last......10 post that race...4 post today....K John can make amends with a better post

 

race 5    average clarity

6  Call Me Honcho  sprint efforts on the sod and the AW sure fit in this spot and his breeding to get the 1 mile distance is solid...1st out for O'neal seems like a positive

4  Gotham Devil  sure appreciates a route of ground on the synthetic and is sired by a hot new turf sire....good likelihood every bit as good on the new surface he sees today

8  Come In Almighty   proven ability on the lawn that can handle this level.....long layoff but the works suggest Puype has this gelding ready to rock n' roll in his 1st race in 1/2 a year

1  Easy Does It   competitive consistent AW sprint runs in all 5 lifetime races.......decent breeding for the route distance and the sod....must overcome very weak 1st going long stats from the Miller barn

 

race 6    average clarity

1  Our Road Scholar   last effort route to sprint and off of short rest was solid (even started from the same 1 post that day).......race loaded with speed so this closer maybe able to fly on by when it counts

5  Rapport   impressive layoff easy win 1st time in the Baffert barn.....race is loaded with front running types but he looks like the speed of the speed and seemingly has the best shot of all the early running types in this affair

4  Wenden   very solid effort/fig at 27 to 1 in her 1st run at a major circuit after being a perfect 3 for 3 in Arizona...what is really impressive is that she has fired in all 4 starts on 4 different surfaces......the dirt, mud, turf, and synthetic....very rare versatility...quite the athlete

 

race 7    average clarity

3  Teamwork   you here about "lone speed" on numerous occasions but "lone closer" applies here.....seemingly sets up for his late run and the small field should keep traffic trouble to a minimum

1  Grace Apon Grace   seems to have found a new home sprinting on the turf......can get a nice stalking position and save some ground from the 1 hole

 

race 8    average clarity

2  Lime Rock Revenge   61 to 1 in debut in a MSW and now back 4 days strongly suggests that this gelding wasn't pushed too hard to be full throttle for today'smaiden claimer.....O'Neal has decent history bringing a  horse back in 5 or less days

1  El Valentin   3rd straight race drawing the 1 post....handled the post well in last 2 runs breaking OK and saving ground......moved forward in last and may again...owns decent early speed versus this group

4  Ribat   nice tight work series may have this 1ster muscled up to compete in his maiden debut....would have been nice if he had shown a gate work or two

7  Defamed   1st timer has worked 5F 4 times and 6F once suggesting intent to be ready to finish up well in this 5F affair

8  Baby Faced Assassin   maiden debut wasn't anything special but she may have needed that race and she is training better lately
