Del Mar for Wednesday 4 August 2010

Handicappers Corner

Difficult card today but I would take a win bet on any of our top picks if they go off their morning line odds or better.

Bit risky but still recommend a pick 4 part wheel starting in the 5th race

5 with 1,2,3,4,5,6,9,10 with 2,3,5,7,8,9,10,11 with 10   64 bets

race 1    above average clarity

7  Magic Latern   fits a ton here if still in good health....seems like a logical small drop

3  Carrie Rose   decent shot to get away and be loose and lonely on the lead...rather dangerous thing considering Mitchell is the trainer

5  Pegastorm   solid 1st at a route in last.....good shot to move forward 2nd out after the layoff and compete for the top rize

race 2    below average clarity

1  Lamm   very consistent sort on any racing surface....draws a decent inside post and Bejarano rides this shipper

2  Mr. Katz   responses well for Talamo andreturns with shorter rest...this hints at feeling good...good chance to be on or near the lead

4  Big Wig   likes time off between races and gets it....shooting for 4thwin in a row...Mullins excels withthese kind

3  Grey Storm   just claimed and impressive drills since....Hollendorfer my have the trump card for this gelding

race 3    average clarity

5  Roman Chic   race 2 back was powerful....if we see that race and she handles a route she should win

2  Empress Way   handled route racing(albeit on the sod) in her last....earned a strong fig 2 back sprinting on the AW

4  Fashion Trend   very consistent sort has to learn how to compete late and stop hanging...barn has been hot

6  Woodman Sky   bad trip early in last and still came flying late...route pedigree is solid

race 4    average clarity

3  Midnight Rage   fresh and ready off a solid series of drills....love the 5/8th splits at Hol in the 6F turf races....bodes well for today's distance

1  Sugar Spike   on the improve and bred to handle thsod...can save some ground from the one hole

6  Can't Topper   3 last races on the synthetic fit well at this level....needs to duplicate those efforts on her 1st run on the lawn today

5  Missdealornodeal   moving forward one baby step at a time and will need another in her 1st ever grass run....Gaines is red hot so there is a good chance she will

race 5    average clarity

5  Hard Kisses   a ton if still healthy enough....works say she is......drop seems logical in that she has only been able to race 5 times in the last 2 years

1  Halfapondarosa   just claimed and the drills for her new outfit suggest they may have improved her abilities

7  Onefunsonofagun   also just claimed and has the new hot team of O'Neal/Bejarano at the controls now

2  Cool Haleigh   2nd out after a layoff hasn't been so hot in the past for this mare...needs to break the trend today...fits well if she does

race 6    below average clarity

2  Derive   very solid route race on the AW in last and seems every bit as good on the lawn.......should be close up in a race with a pace profile that appears to favor speed

1  Hughsey  trip from you know where in last......works say ready and can be very formidable with a clean trip

5  Deputy Max   very consistent since the blinkers became part of his arsenal...solid work series since is last is reassuring

4  Concerto's Thunder   new barn takes over and they may have found a good spot for their new gelding....best ever on Top Turf Todaywas her lone race on the Dmr turf course and it was at today's distance

race 7    below average clarity

2  Office Wild Boys  impressive 3 wide winning run pressing a fast quarter mile...same distance and a much better post (12 hole in last) at the 5 1/2 furlong distance..can be in the hunt from the get go

11  Stormin Rae   showed solid pace and decent final time in maiden breaking win in last....Rosario seemingly wanted over others in here

9  Lucky Mr. K.   two lousy trips in 2 lifetime races....very tough if settles down and gets a clean trip-a-roo

5  Bruno B   showed lots of life in his maiden debut and ran from out of it....many in here have yet to show they will run from off the pace through traffic...she may be flying late

race 8    average clarity

10  Pious David   all 4 races under Mitchell's tutelage would take this heat.....as we all know his barn is not afraid to lose a horse

11  Scorsese   works sure are good enough to compete at the bottom in her maiden debut

5  Why Trust   solid work series suggests she is ready to roll in her maiden debut

1  Lime A Nite   works just keep getting better for this O'Neal 1ster......last drill is most impressive...lookout if the waking up apprentice breaks cleanly

13  Brother Reid   seemingly another 1st timer working up to snuff and ready....post might hurt
