Handicappers Corner
Fairplex opens tomorrow with a 12 race card. Many of the cards will have 12 races so our comments will be shorter so that we won't cut into our handicapping time. We had a terrific Fpx meeting last year our 1st year covering the bullring. So good in fact we decided it will be part of our racing calendar every year.
Decent closing card at beautiful Del Mar today. Believe Bejarano leads the riders race by 1 but Rosario is on 4 top picks today and Bejarano none. My bet is on Rosario to take the title.
race 1 average clarity
2 Qouted all 4 lifetime sprints on the turf or AW fit well here....placed to win
1 Lime A Nite broke a step slow and dueled in a fast 1/4 and still won mc debut.....clean break today and has a shot to handle quite a bit tougher
4 My Man Marty M M on the drop in class....whats new?
race 2 slightly above average clarity
4 Mother Ruth exits some key races this Spring and Summer and seemingly faces softer....1st drill on the Dmr surface was an eye popper
3 Bonifacio trainer has had a great last 2 or 3 months and this filly who is proven on the AW should feel good coming off a couple of runs on the sod
6 Fund Raiser the epitome of consistency....11 fo 11 on the board and all were run on the AW....fun horse to own
race 3 slightly above average clarity
5 Scorpion Time coped with nasty fast pace in last 2 grass races and held well.....great chance to be involved early with a much slower fractions being set
7 Call Me Honcho substantial fig earned in last with a very wide trip...Rosario who owns a couple of wins on this gelding will be out to make amends...1st run at the 1 3/8 marathon distance is a concern
2 Hog's Hollow has really improved with the addition of blinkers
8 Dynamic Range sure appreciates the Dmr grass course and is proven at the distance
race 4 average clarity
3 Dancing In Silks terrific work tab...hot barn....likes Dmr.....and faces easier than he is used to
5 All Saint colt is training possibly the sharpest of his life...likes Fpx which starts Thursday yet elects to run in this spot....may be doing super
4 Truest Legend speed of the speed and look who is up...Mr P Val
race 5 average clarity
10 Always A Princess all 3 lifetime races basically handle these....trains as if 100% ready of the long layoff
8 Moon Stone Madness decent run 1st time in the Robbins barn showing improved pace and final time
9 Gumption woke up in last and just worked a big 5/8ths....rebounding in form
1 Tamerin consistent sort has a prolonged tightly spaced work series that says all set to roll fresh
race 6 average clarity
2 Freewayracer checked hard early about 1/2 dozen lengths and then showed run....can be up close early and be solid here with clean trip-a-roo
8 Alevei useful mc debut....showed some early foot after checking early......good chance to sit close up at the 5 1/2 furlong speed friendly distance
10 Queenie Marini veered out some from the outer-most 12 post (most babies do) and then ran wide in a solid group of MSW runners....big factor with a clean trip facing much easier
7 Warren's Natalie didn't show too much in mc debut but works are stronger since and Bejarano accepts the mount....barn can really vault forward now and then with 2nd time starters
race 7 average clarity
2 Lost Prophet earned a solid fig showing strong pace in wire to wire win 1st time out after the claim......sure looks loose here 1st time on the lawn...adequate turf breeding
5 Ruby Lane good chance to get a chase or near chase position in an affair seemingly set for the front runners
1 Rising Honour 1st lifetime grass race (at today's distance) fits well here.....nice layoff 6F AW win should have him fit
4 Warren's Too Cool needed last and very likely to show more today....and will need to
race 8 average clarity
4 J P's Gusto solid no fluke Grade 2 win in last made it 3 in a row....continues to train like a happy and healthy horse
2 Riveting Reason still a maiden but only needs to move forward 2 or 3 lengths and recent 4F drill and the fact Solis comes in to ride strongly suggest he will....small barn is 7 of it's last 12 in the money in Graded Stakes
7 Western Mood last two races fit solidly....only concern is the 7F distance as this colt flattened out a little at 6 1/2 F
8 Indian Winter useful MSW 1st out win and Bejarano sticks with colt who is bred to be a nice sprinter
race 9 slightly below average clarity
9 Miss Seamless solid 5 furlong gate work for this drop down O'Neill charge says all systems go fresh off or the bench
8 Champagne Snob proven fresh and sure is training exceptionally well for this level of racing...can be in the hunt from start to finish
11 Tribal Witch owns good early speed and the 1/2 furlong less to run today looks like a good thing for this filly who drifted out in the stretch in her last
1 Phone Maybe drops to level where this filly should be able to compete for the top prize
race 10 average clarity
6 Tiz Argent strong quite a bit better then par effort last Feb at a route on the AW.....training great for his return to the race wars.....grass pedigree is solid for the sod
8 Marino's Star decent 1st on the grass last....trained by a top trainer in Ellis so a move forward is likely 2nd time on the grass
7 Tribal Nation compromised by a lack of pace in both lifetime grass races......doubt that is the case today
10 Jump On Board set a suicidal pace in last and of course tired....can get away and be tough if this gelding can rate
3 Papa Lev switch to Bejaranomake help this colt rebound to his decent grass efforts he fired in early Summer
