Hollywood for Friday night 12 Nov 2010

Finally something positive for the Southern California racing scene.  Great news to hear that Santa Anita is implementing a 25% purse increase over last year for their Winter Meeting. Pretty exciting news. More barns and a new racing surface should make for some lucrative wagering opportunities.

race 1    average clarity

5  Warren's Rose    nasty pace in last in her 1st ever at a route and held well all things considered....cuts back in distance...should be in the hunt from the get go

3  Phi Beta Heat   should be motoring home late.....was 3 wide sitting too far back in a totally pace-less affair in last.....Bejarano sticks around

6  Kiss My Swiss   breeding suggested this filly might fade at the 7 1/2 furlong distance and she did....cut back to 6 F may do wonders

race 2    slightly below average clarity

3  Our Bellini Bikini   filly sure seems to appreciate the Hollywood synthetic......solid fig in last.....can handle the step up once again with the same decent trip given by Pedroza

5  Frequent Fame    another glad to be at Hollywood.....4 for 7 at Hol.......1 for 7 elsewhere....decent shot to repeat

4  Pay For Play   sure like the change in riders to Rosario who rides late runners better than Joe T.......race 2 back at today's distance was a solid bad trip effort that fits here

race 3     slightly above average clarity

4  Tale Of The Bat   trainer has been getting the job done this Fall and this gelding appears to have a strong likelihood of moving forward 2nd out after the layoff

6  Battling Atticus   in latest this gelding was making a solid turn move when he was forced wide by a horse that bolted....did well to only get beat by 7 lengths

2  Obsess   barn has been quietly having a nice 2010.......trainer/rider won 1st race yesterday (which we had on top) and this 3 year old just drilled an improved work hinting he is at the top of his game

9  Forward Commitment   obvious health issues....drops again...may have this one last effort left in him

race 4    average clarity

5  Ruby Lane    filly has enough speed to get on over and save some ground into the 1st turn.....should be prominent thru-out.....good history when Flores rides

7  Tiz A Bud Girl   deep closer's only win came with shorter rest and that is the scenario tonight

6  L'enchanteresse   consistent sort looks as if she should once again be competitive in this spot........needs to overcome her strong tendency to hang late in the race when it counts the most

race 5    average clarity

4  Que Pronto    useful mc debut and drops a little with the addition of blinkers.......eye popping recent speed drills and a seldom run 5 furlong race bode well for her chances

1  Portland   impressive mc debut last......2nd to stout winner who stepped up and won her next....positive rider switch and 1st time under the auspicious of Carava...all systems go

5  Nascent    dangerous barn with a 1st timer and they use P Val who sure can help in a speed friendly 5F sprint race

3  Personal Joke   debut run 2 back is fairly good......seldom used rider has 2 straight on the board efforts for trainer Dominquez including a win

race 6    average clarity

5  Dapper Gene   nice improvement 1st after the claim for Ted West.....turf races fit fine...can get a decent stalk or mid pack position

7  Yes It's A Cat   can sit near the front in an affair that seems conducive to those near the lead

4  Sassou   declining animal but looks loose in this spot with a good turf speed rider aboard

2  Equiparado   seemingly doesn't set for his closing style but has moved up inside in his last 4 races on the main track and I believe he will do the  same here in this sprint turf race...big plus he he does

race 7    average clarity

2  Washington Bridge   race 2 back was an impressive solid fig (wide trip).....believe this filly can get  a nice chase position

4  Ellafitz   lone speed in this spot and Baffert heck of a tough combination

race 8    slightly above average clarity

11  Breakmark   drops out of tougher competition in MSW races.....race 2 back handles these unless someone really moves forward or he gets a bad trip

9  Cynical Wager   decent return to the race wars off of a 7 week layoff......with that race under his belt and a positive rider switch I believe we are looking at a lifetime top tonight

2  Five A Day   last 3 of 4 races fit fine at today's level

3  Warren's Concept   nice wake up 1st time with blinkers....back with shorter rest....can move forward and compete here

10  Johnnie Gold   small drop off of the long layoff and decent preparatory drills....can be a factor
