Finally something positive for the Southern California racing scene.  Great news to hear that Santa Anita is implementing a 25% purse increase over last year for their Winter Meeting. Pretty exciting news. More barns and a new racing surface should make for some lucrative wagering opportunities.
Â
race 1Â Â Â average clarity
3 Miss Seamless  last sprint race run on the AW  3 back would make her the one to beat in this spot
2 Yasuda  consistent sort....like these kind 1st after the claim from a high % 1st out after a claim outfit like we have hereÂ
5 Movie Duty  looks loose on the lead here and lookout if we get last night's speed bias
Â
race 2Â Â Â average clarity
8 Stroppy  solid fig in last for this consistent sort that seemingly gets plenty of heat up front to aid her mid pace style
5 Mary Strong  last 2 efforts are par like for the level and I think we will see another
6 Misinjennuous  both lifetime scores have occurred in route races but all her sprint races fit fine in this spot
1 Really Elegant  probably needed last.....good recent drill last week also hints that we will see more horse today
Â
race 3Â Â Â average clarity
3  Temp  sure hope Talamo went straight home last and got his rest because he is on top in the 1st 3 races today......Baffert big bucks 1st timer is training like all systems go
4 Victory With Honor  lookout if ready fresh today....both starts last Winter are solid.....had about 8 lengths of trouble in his 2nd out and only got beat by less then 4 lengths
2 Indian Jones laid up colt is training sharply for a reliable trainer in Walsh...big rider switch...horrid trip in last from low low % rider
Â
race 4Â Â Â slightly above average clarity
3 Miguel's Mascot  gets limited starts but the drills say his health is intact....can sit up close to pace in a race that should favor front runners
6 Alley Hondro  won despite a bad trip in lone grass race...best ever on the AW in last bodes well for an even better grass effort today
1 Sammartino  plus's: gets 1 post......has some speed in a race without a lot of it....gets good grass speed rider.....consistent......negative: hanger
4 Valley Cat  keeps steeping up and running...sharp horse right now
Â
race 5Â Â Â average clarity
8 Basic Strategy  basic strategy: blinkers back on....P Val back on.....only 5 furlongs.....you think they want the lead?.....wire to wire attempt here
1 Mi Marino  sharp recent drill and cuts back 1/2 furlong....believe we see a reboud to his race 2 back which fits here
5 Marcoman  another with a sharp recent drill and it was at today's distance.....should be motoring late with a decent late running jockey aboard
3 Pure Distinction  1st timer is training as if dangerous in his lifetime debut
Â
race 6Â Â Â average clarity
1 Blue Jay Attack  plenty of heat up front can sets things up nicely from this strong late running sprint grass horse....best fig ever on T T Today was lone race at today's 5F distance
7 El Scorpio  owns brilliant early speed but also appears as if he can rate
6 Sea Of Pleasure  also has ability to cut out big fractions...needs to avoid a duel
2 Smokey Lonesome  long layoff but training like he might be ready to roll from far back
Â
race 7Â Â Â average clarity
6 Schuylkill Punch  solid debut in a Maiden 50K affair pressing then stalking a decent pace a bit wide.....like that Mulhall yanks him out of claiming....expecting an even fitter animal today
1 Switzers The Man  2 solid 2nd's in 2 lifetime races....Flores has been getting the job done of lateÂ
10 Arousal  strong MSW debut run 4 weeks ago and 3 nice reassuring works since....well bred animal in the right hands
4 Coil  exits a strange pace-less 24 flat for the quarter MSW debut race....new trainer takes over...tough to gage debut but trains like a good thingÂ
Â
race 8Â Â Â slightly below average clarity
3 Unusual Suspect  as much early speed in this Graded marathon as I've seen in a long time so I'm turning to this late running horse coming off a strong fig effort on the AW.....runs all day on the turf or main track
5 Where's The Remote  sure likes the sod.....can lay off of the pace which seems like a good thing here....handled 1 1/4 miles but can he get the extra 1/4 ?Â
2 Treat Gently  filly is sharp and has run well on firm turf so California sod seems like a good fit
8 Big Shot Syd  dangerous sort steps way up off a most impressive press of a strong pace easy win....almost beat Oil Man last year when he was a good animal
Â
race 9Â Â Â average clarity
6 Teenage Dancer  all 4 S Cal AW races fit well versus this group...Gaines has been hot
11 Stormy Linda  another whose races (all 4 of them) fit fine in this spot.....Cavara just claimed and he is rather dangerous 1st time off of the claim
5 Nikki's Curfew  solid return to the race wars in last......repeat of that run fits so any move forward and he will be especially tough
9 Indiara  horse has health issues and responds best with 2 or 3 months between races and gets it
12 Forest Beauty  very dangerous small barn ran 2nd with John aboard last night with a mc 1ster
