Santa Anita for Sunday 16 Jan 2011

[private]

Good Sunday card with 5 races rated better than average clarity and 4 of them are in the pick 6.

race 1    average clarity

1  Straightomidnight   strong efforts on the "dirt" at Fpx and training as if the dirt at SA is to his liking

5  Luv Dragon   another who appreciates conventional dirt.....like the step up in claiming off of a layoff win....and now short rest...move forward seems likely

6  Coo Cachoo   the old handicappers cliche of being "brave on the front end" seemingly applies to this gelding.....sprinter is quick and may get loose and........go......all.......the.......way....football is on my mind with tha Bearsssss playing this afternoon

race 2    slightly above average clarity

5  Chiloquin   earned a solid fig chasing fast pace in last and in general is an improving animal...should be on or very close up with a clean break

1  Luckarack  not much more to say then 3 for 3 on conventional dirt and/or 3 for 3 sprinting

race 3    average clarity

1  Stephen's Got Hope   good post to get a close up position for a good speed rider in Pedroza...1 mile on the grass seems like the perfect fit

5  California Soldier   2 wins and 2 2nds since Sadler claimed...laid up but works suggest he's all set to roll....nice reliable stalking style

3  Buyer's Remorse   1 for 1 at a mile on the sod....very solid recent grass work especially for a guy like Jones who doesn't push them hard in the morning

race 4   slightly above average clarity

1  Da Ruler   Smith has been a hot rider for the Baffert barn and appears to be on a monster here off of some brilliant drills for this 1st timer

7  Albergatti    Assmussen 1ster is training as if he's well meant in debut...so far his horse's have been "live" when Gomez has been the jock choice

3  Doubledown On Ten   another 1ster that has trained nicely and debuts from a top barn

race 5    slightly below average clarity

4 Forty Paces   trainer's stock has been fring the last 3 months....lone race on "real" dirt is better than it looks on paper in 2 ways....very washed out before the race and had a bad trip which at 4F is hard to overcome...yet still managed 2nd

6  No Afillyation   all 3 lifetime races appear to fit in this spot...1st on convention dirt/sand but bred to handle it

3  Desperate Measures   has run well fresh so far in her limited young career....fresh today.....reassuring that Rosario elects to ride

race 6    average clarity

3  No Kai Oi   hidden move forward for new trainer in last...steps up which is seemingly a positive...rather sure is sitting on a strong effort but a route is a ? mark

2  Tamerin   drop drop drop but Mitchell has been successful many times in the past with this kind and he maybe lone speed

7  Malusita   seems to be at her best with ample time between races like today...also...good history with today's jock in the irons

6  Sweetsouthernqueen   last 2 efforts are only so so....one to beat if fires effort 3 back

race 7    slightly above average clarity

3  Andina   laid up filly is a ton if she is fully ready to roll which the figs she has earned on Top Turf Today

1  Michael's Rose   this mare's running history suggests and move forward 2nd out after the layoff.....all 4 lifetime 1 mile turf efforts are good

6  Hemera   powerful late closer on the turf  has been unlucky with the no. of races with a lack of pace up front she's been part of.....lookout if she gets some today

race 8    slightly above average clarity

3  Malibu Pier   par like efforts for this level in last two races and a very good chance to get 1st crack at the leaders down the stretch

2  Blind Luck   best animal in the race for sure but lightning fast track hurts some and she has only been winning by the slightest of margins lately making her somewhat vulnerable

6  Always A Princess   good speed in this spot....leave out Mr. Bob Baffert of late and you get stung

race 9    slightly above average clarity

1  Resplendently   this gelding was training so well last Sept that the barn stepped this gelding back up to MSW from the bottom and she ran creditably....training great fresh off the bench once again and this time she is at the bottom mc level..same horse and he's a ton

11  Indiana Jones   good mc debut and now drops a notch...solid with the same effort and strong contender with a move forward

10  Naturaliste   1st timer is training like he is ready to roll in his debut into the world of racing

7  Our Last Monte   Vienna is much touher with 2nd time starters and has significant success 1st time blinkers

6  Gifted Student   good at 5 furlongs and lousy at 6 furlongs with little staying power....is 5 1/2 F OK ????
