Santa Anita for Sat. 22 Jan 2011

Below average card for a Saturday both in quality and the number of races I feel good about. We shall see.
Â
race 1Â Â Â average clarity
6 Minutesandtouches  better recent works and good history with relatively short rest
7 Visual Intensity  trainer is not too hot 1st at a route but I like the effort at 7F in last.....top jock may get loose and only needs to last 1 furlong more...bred fine to handle a 1 mile 2 turn affair
5 Call Me Later  rider trainer teamed up for a win in yesterday's nightcap as our 3rd pick....consistent sort is training fairly well on the new surface he has to cope with....might move forward and make it 2 in a row for the trainer/rider combo
1 Welcome Home Ryan  needed last and only got beat by 5 in a bad trip 2 turn 7F at Fpx hinting he appreciated 2 turn racing and can get today's 1 mile disatnceÂ
Â
race 2Â Â Â average clarity
6 Capt Sparrow  rank and wide losing about 9 lengths and still finished strongly and got beat only by 5........and more importantly Bejarano sticks around
2 Dee Dee's Legacy  very consistent sort....but.....still needs to show he can handle conventional dirt or he would have been top pick
8 Beyond Loaded  good chance to move forward 2nd out after the 8 week layoff......handled dirt at Fpx well
9 Just Heat  major awakening 1st out on the new SA surface in latest....clever trip from the outside post and he can upset the applecart
Â
race 3Â Â Â below average clarity
9 Zees Chris  slashed solid pace in both lifetime races....a good match for the speed friendly 5 1/2 F distance
4 Limerick Lane  trainer has been sending his babies out ready to roll in their mc debut's lately and this one shows signs she's ready as well
8 Coy Princess  takes the ever dangerous drop out of MSW racing and owns some early speed
7 Warren's Peacock  works hint at this 1st timer being ready for her debut into the glorious world of thoroughbred racing
Â
race 4Â Â average clarity
9 Le' Heat  on the improve with every start (excluding when saddle slipped) and last was hidden with a bad trip....trainer has been awakening....can win this with an OK trip 1st down the hill
1 Then Unusual One  same trainer as our top pick....decent chance to repeat last or move forward 2nd out after the layoff
7 Lucky Jim   very tightly spaced drills for this 1ster should have him wound up and ready to roll......decent turf pedigree and a good turf trainer
3  Armenian Star  very poor trip in last hides his fitness and only grass endeavor ran a bit wide stalking the kind of pace that would do anyone in let
Â
race 5   average clarity Â
5 Warren's Gridlock  hot barn and the right rider aboard in P Val for this 5 year old who can be prominent from the get go
6 Looking For Candy  very logical overdo drop for this colt who has hardly earned a penny since being claimed last Summer
4 Anga  trainer has been fairly hot and if you excuse this horse's last out (in a non-claiming affair) he fits well...good "real dirt" races at Fpx
9 Royal Import  very consistent 7 for 7 on the board on the main track but loves to hang in the stretch
Note: Big Wags number 11Â has a shot if he draws in
Â
race 6Â Â Â slightly below average clarity
9 She's So Provocative  seemingly sharp and fairly fresh filly gets the recently hot Blanc who is doing great with his turf mounts lately
10 Torrey Cliffs  solid last under the 1st out since the claim for O'Neill...gets 4 lbs off and is turf proven...also gets Talamo who rides the hill course well
5 Sanneen  last was solid and this filly won her only race with 2 weeks rest which is today's scenario
3 She'sfitforaking  2 straight races without pace to close into (d positional grades on Top Turf Today for those of you who understand that) greatly compromised her chances....can fly late if she gets lucky and gets that needed pace up front
Â
race 7Â Â Â slightly above average clarity
1 Smiling Tiger as good as any sprinter in the Nation....needs to avoid a brutal duel with the 2 horse...1st Grade 2 after 5 consecutive Grade 1's
3 Ventana  sharp in his morning work and the Baff man is on fire....hoping for a duel between the 1 and 2 horse
2 Euroears long layoff but training his eyeballs out and Baffert is an incredible 25 for 39 "place" at the SA Meet so far...owns some very impressive back numbers
Â
race 8Â Â Â slightly below average clarity
3 Rachel Jones  really like her work tab...one of the better one's from a Koriner charge in some time...blinkers on maybe the catalyst for those works...shot to get away
4 Wallstreeter  not much more to say when was the last time you saw a grass horse win by 20 lengths...also should show some early gas
6 She'll Heir  shown solid ability on the AW sprinting and is bred well to succeed sprinting on the sod
9 Cambina  excellent history on the turf in Ireland.....impressive recent drill and R Baze passes on those easy winners on at Saturday at GG to ride her
Â
race 9Â Â Â average clarity
5 Hout Bay  1st timer for Sadler has finished up her work tab the right way.... peaking now
2 Pink Lollipops  like a broken record...Baffert with another 1st timer seemingly ready to visit the circle of joy in her 1st lifetime race
10 Jaredella  another 1ster who looks ready to roll for Mr. Sadler
4 Shoo Gee  2 decent 2nd's last Spring in 2 lifetime races.....works say ready off of the lon hiatus from the race wars
7 Dolci Domenica  respectful 3rd in lone race run in mid Summer.....a factor if ready fresh off of the bench today
