Santa Anita for Friday 28 January 2011
[private]
Pedroza has 6 mounts today and I have selected him on top in 2 races and 2nd in 3 other races. Outside of his meal ticket which is Fairplex, this is by far the most times I have picked him 1 or 2 in an 8 race card. He has been riding well and lets hope it continues.
Take note that the 2nd 1/2 of this card was easier to decipher as apparent from my "clarity" ratings.
Â
race 1Â Â Â slightly below average clarity
4 Saintly Soul impressive layoff sprint run in last with no support at the windows....believe the effort surprised Gaines some....should be much tighter today for what she was always pointed for...a route of ground
1Â Reality Ride eventful mc debut in last:Â acted up at the gate...broke slowly then ran wide and still only lost by 1 1 /2 lengths....and claimed by O'Neill....deservedly steps up and if her new trainer settles this one down...lookout
7Â Recap been away since Sept of 2009 but impeccably bred and is trained strongly for someone like Shirreffs
6Â Temp will most likely need a small forward move to win this but the unconscious white hot Baffert trains
Â
race 2Â Â Â slightly below average clarity
6Â Tribal Wish has run OK fresh.....blinkers on and Pedrosa up so may show more speed which would be a good thing in this affair lacking front runners...figs are below par for this level but better than anyone else in here
4Â P R's Orphan broke poorly and ran wide in mc debut.....big factor with a clean journey and the same energy displayed
1Â Warren's Hawk 1ster timer is working well enough to possibly be ready....great spot if he owns some early speed and of course breaks cleanly ...P Val is the right guy for the job
2Â Spectacular Slew showed life in only race on conventional dirt 2 back....last may have been a gimme off of the layoff...if so has a chance
Â
race 3Â Â Â slightly below average clarity
2Â Marquet Rebel no shot in last when saddle slipped....didn't care for the "off" track 2 back.....nice figs 3 and 4 races back....1 for 1 on "fast" dirt....Bejarano sticks around
5Â Jack's Wild very good history on conventional dirt......and a very significant 5/8ths drill just 6 days ago...hot rider/trainer combo
3Â Dontmesroundwitjim won nicely in the chase position in his last....can sit in the same position again and behind a somewhat suspect leader in in the 1 horse
Â
race 4Â Â Â slightly below average clarity
2Â Roxanne O very good work tab for a guy like Shirreffs who doesn't push his 1st timers too hard....also hints at early speed in her works...seems like a great spot for a 1ster timer
3Â Steve's Blue Sky hasn't shown too much in her races so far but recent drills suggest the new surface and/or the blinkers on have woken her up to a new level of ability
5Â Cute N Sassy long hiatus from the track but I love the tightly works from Mandella....in general I love "interval" training and especially from his barn
Â
race 5Â Â Â slightly above average clarity
4Â Our Bellini Bikini very consistent sort and Pedroza owns 2 1st's and 2 2nd's in 4 mounts with her....exits a strong race and smartly steps up a notch
8Â Pretty Kinzie last 2 races on conventional dirt are very solid for this level....would have been top pick if she had worked since her last run 27 days ago
9Â Primed on a good roll and just claimed....very wide trip in last and still closed fast to snatch 2nd
6Â Warren's Rock Art laid up a long time but drops and is training up to snuff....late runner will need a battle up front
Â
race 6Â Â Â slightly above average clarity
4Â Sassou solid turf figs on Top Turf Today in all 3 races on the SA hill course....same today with an OK trip can take this affair
1Â Quietly Mine also owns solid SA hill course figs even tough he hasn't hit the board in 3 efforts on it...takes a logical drop...Pedroza knows ths gelding well
2Â Get Funky 8 year old who owns some big back numbers on the hill is fresh and training well for his return to the races off of a 5 month layoff
7Â Details R Sketchy 1st ever on the hill but training sharply and proven on the sod....Blanc has been riding the turf well including some nice price shots for us
Â
race 7Â Â Â average clarity
2Â Gumption solid 1st ever on conventional dirt in last and the drills since strongly suggest she feels good....Bejarano sticks around...can be prominent from the get go
3Â Lea The Punisher proven 2 turns on the turf with an especially solid run 2 races back....bred to handle the dirt just fine and training well on it....Quinonez is back up who has the lone win for this competitive horse in his only mount on her
1 Summer Games has only been a route once in career...ran 5th 4 beaten lengths in that route with Blind Luck, Evening Jewel, Switchand Crisp in front of her....yikes what a group...last sure seems like a sprint prep for today....trainer could use a confidence builder
Â
race 8Â Â Â slightly above average clarity
3Â Long Legged Lovely consistent sort had a horrendous trip at 2-5 in last....hmmmmm.....meets leading rider will be out to make amends with an equipment change to blinkers off for today
1Â Suitable Attire 3 solid 2nd's in 3 lifetime efforts on "real" dirt.....very positive rider switch for a low % apprentice to Joe Talamo who is still younger then most app's but has been around for a long time for a 21 year old kid
2Â Good Friday Gal speed....route ability....P Val....not much more needs to be said
5Â Great Bernadine sures seems to run better on conventional dirt but needs to still show she can handle a route of ground
7Â Aprisa Luna dropped in last albeit off of a long layoff and showed little....drops again for 1st ever at a route.....seems like now or never today
