Santa Anita for Saturday 5 Feb 2011
[private]
Early post on Sunday. Picks will be up no later than 8 am Pacific time. Nice Saturday card. decent shot to keep the good times rolling.
Â
race 1Â Â Â slightly above average clarity
5 Streets Of Heaven  picked up at the claiming box for 9K so why not run for 8K.....very solid efforts the last 4 times sprinting any of which would be tough for others in here to beat...if of course he gets the trip
1 One Shot  good shot to be loose on the lead with a good speed rider aboard....very ratable on the front end and maybe allowed to slow things down
2 Just Heat  woke up in last in a sprint that has turned out to be a key race....bred well to handle the 1 1/8 mile distance
8 Troubletimesthree   not much doing in his last but his effort 2 back was a strong bad trip effort.....can be flying late
Â
race 2Â Â Â slightly above average clarity
4 Champagne Topper  big move forward in last showing substantial pace inside on the only day of the meet I have the rail a little dull.....show have some battle tough endurance cutting back to a sprint from a route
8 Titian  improved nicely in 2nd lifetime start......training as if he loves the SA surface.....another move in the right direction seems likely
6 Answer To Abby  poor trip in MSW debut....drops.....and has 2 reassuring drills and a rider switch  Â
1 Brereton Park  another compromised by a poor trip in his maiden debut.....in this case too wide...Rosario sticks around and can make amends
Â
race 3Â Â Â average clarity
2 Afleet Deal  good history with 1 or 2 months off.....4 of 8 in the win column on fast conventional dirt.....looks like lone speed but can chase if need be
4 High Standards  layoff drop down in claiming price makes sense to me here in that the horse is a nine year old...retired soon...let's hope that's his fate
5 High Perch  away from the race wars for just short of 2 years but if he returns 75 % of what he was he is in the hunt here....trainer from Tup has a gaudy win % thru-out the years
3 Nitro Active  good speed rider Pedrosa has got to be one happy guy to be back riding on conventional dirt and he can sit up close here in a race that seems like speed may hold
Â
race 4Â Â Â average clarity
5 May Day Rose  brilliant works .....brilliant trainer.....brilliant early speed and only 1 mile to sustain that speed
6 Turbulent Dancer  done everything right in 3 career starts making it look easy...1st ever on conventional dirt but training sharply on it and bred to handle it....would have been top choice if this race was longer than one mile
4 California Nectar  hard to argue with 3 wins and 3 2nd's in 6 races on the main track...can sit in a decent chase position with P Val up
Â
race 5Â Â Â average clarity
4 Separate Forest  seems like a good claim by O'Neill...good move forward in last the day he claimed....on or near the lead down the hill with a good speed turf rider aboard
3 Fairway Road  very consistent sprinter on any surface...toss out last....checked and hit the rail hard in the stretch.....can get a nice chase positionÂ
1 Melbisha  good history when Rosario rides....most likely needed last but either way the recent solid work tab says ready this afternoonÂ
5 Sweet Hanni  tough to tell if this laid up filly is ready off of the bench but trainer/rider have been a dangerous team the last couple of years...fits solidly if she is fully conditioned
Â
race 6Â Â Â average clarity
7 Sierra Spirit  powerful works for this 1st timer showing both speed and endurance works of merit....Bonde knows how to get it done with a 1ster as well...bred to be a nice sprinterÂ
1 Spud Spivens  on the improve with every start...last adjusted for trouble fig was quite a bit better than par...should have plenty of horse coming for home racing off of a route race
4 Tiz A Budman  1ster is training up to snuff and has top connections to possibly be ready to roll in his debut into the world of thoroughbred racing
9 Aldadino  here's his debut trip: 6 slow out of the gate, wide, and green in the stretch...only got beat by 6...better luck today and lookout
Â
race 7Â Â Â average clarity
9 Samba School  showed big speed in only sprint race on the AW...race lack speed so I think Garcia will send and be on or near the lead here...proven on the turf
7 Waltzing Swan  very solid fig on Top Turf Today in last...a ton if handles the hill and shows the same energy
2 Entabeni  very consistent deep closer on any surface is hoping for more pace up front than anticipated
5 Queen Mariles  laid up horse may get away.....and so I will give you that over used adage...fresh speed is dangerous speed
Â
race 8Â Â Â slightly above average clarity
4 Proudinsky  ultra consistent grass horse is sharp in the morning....1 for 1 at today's distance...nice close up to mid pack position
2 Fluke also sharp in the morning and consistent....believe will be in a nice chase position
8 Colgan's Chip  looks to be on the lead here.....big race 3 back that would easily make him the one to beat if he is up to it
9 Victor's Cry  late runner should be motoring late....will need more heat up front than I can see or will run out of real estate
Â
race 9Â Â Â average clarity
3 Twirling Candy  very special animal faces weaker then he has been facing...seemingly loves the SA new surface
4 Tweebster  should be in the hunt from the get go...keeps rising up to new challenges
8 Oilisblackgold on the improve and will need the trend to continue....closer may get a good pace up front
1 Honour The Deputy nice horse out East...seems to run all day...a good fit for Gomez who is exceptional on late runners
Â
race 10Â Â Â Â average clarity
2 A Lil Dumaani standout numbers of late sprinting on the grass....P Val is the right guy to get this sprinter to stick around for this mile challenge
5 Don Perico  brutal trip in last hides a good turf effort albeit in a sprint...bred to appreciate a route of ground...Rosario sticks around
6 Cahill Country dangerous grass invader is seemingly out training anyone in here
1Â Low Gear Power
10 Renegade Storm
