Santa Anita for Sunday 6 March 2011

[private]

Outside and off pace some on Friday and more so yesterday. Route speed stopped in it's tracks yesterday. Only horse to wire yesterday was a drop down heavy favorite that barely hung on. I believe he would have won for fun on an even playing surface. So keep on eye on the early races to see if the trend continues.

race 1    slightly above average clarity

4  Bella Palooza   hard to resist a $50K purse so back to a $62K claimer for this filly.....won going away by 4 3/4 last seen at this price....in fact 3 for 3 in the win column when in claiming affairs

1  Brown Is Beige   needed her last...continues to train like a good horse....shot to turn the tables on the 4 horse 2nd out after the layoff

5  Desperate Measures   best ever in last 1st run ever on conventional dirt.....good series of drills since and steps up....feeling goooood

race 2    slightly above average clarity

4  Subtle Greek   broke poorly and ran wide in mc debut 2 back....bombed on the turf in last......repeat of debut on "real" dirt with a better trip and she has a good shot at the winners circle

2  Ballerina Angel   new barn takes over this missing in action filly and they drop off of drills that say ready

7  Felony   eased in lone lifetime race run last June......training decently for her return to the race wars....went off at 5 to 1 in debut

race 3    average clarity

4  Italian Rules   horse has taken a liking to the new SA racing surface....consistent and handles the 6 1/2 furlong distance

2  Silver Stetsom Man   good history fresh off of the bench like today....and the work tab suggests he will live up to his past this afternoon

1  Hard Bill   needed last and drops a notch......5 wins, 1 2nd, 1 3rd in 7 lifetime races on conventional dirt...very little separates our 3 selections in this affair

race 4    average clarity

1  All The Victors   lone route race run on the Santa Anita dirt sure fits well here...trainer is stout turf to dirt as well as and dropping out of MSW races

6 Star Navigator    dueled in nasty fractions and rightfully tired...this time runs a 1/16 less and looks loose......all the way with Mr P Val

3  T. K. Fortsix  last was OK but what we want is his endeavor 2 races back...works are sharper...we may get it

race 5    average clarity

6  Hanakkuk   1 win and 2 2nd's in 3 lifetime "dirt" races.....in for lowest claiming tag to date

9  Diamond Journey   on the improve with every start and placed to win...Gomez sticks with this cheap filly 4 the 4th straight race

2  Banana Cream Pie   enough pace to set things up for his close.....late runners did well yesterday

5  Don't Tell Me That   seems to be late runner these days which can help her staying power........gets a jockey upgrade

race 6    average clarity

4  Working At Night   solid forward move forward in latest.....speed type gets to run 1/8th less.very strong work series since

7  Around The Twig   powerful 1st at a route in last albeit on the dirt course....decent grass breeding....should be a ton if she handles it

2  Resplendere   solid move forward sprinting on turf in last with 1st time blinkers and lasix...pedigree suggests 1 mile should be a good fit

11  Super   very nice 3rd and 2nd place finishes in GB last Fall in sizable fields......training like she is ready in her U S of A debut...trainer is good picking out euro's that fit in the USA

race 7    slightly below average clarity

4  Matto Mondo   excellent work series...then...sprint tune-up...then...some more solid drills...pointed to this race today and has shown ability to handle this level in the past

7  Kensei    good fresh history and Asmussem has him all cranked up for today's layoff run

8  Misremembered   tough call if he is ready off or the 1 year (exactly) layoff...but....one to beat if he is

5  Red Door Drive   been flattening past 1 mile....so....cut back to 1 mile may do the trick for this Baffert charge

race 8    average clarity

3  Cry Hallelujah   all systems go...good number in last.....hot turf rider with 1 less lb....reliable trainer with a horse in good form....same 1 mile distance

8  Come Touch The Sun   with decent lifetime sprints including the last which was down the hill....bred just fine for the 1 mile distance

6  Bella Swan   3 of this GB invader's best races were at today's distance.....good grass conditioner has put in a nice work series into this filly....tough of ready 1st off the 5 month break in the action

4  Bar Rock Omama   hard to argue with 2 wins and 2 2nd's in last 4 starts all with today's jock in the irons

race 9    average clarity

9  B's Lucky Strike   both conventional dirt efforts are very strong here....back to level where claimed....barn's all business today

1  Free Lunch   classic gimme to drop and go go go.....closer sure could use yesterday's track which was tough on speed

7  Quinton's Flash   laid up since Nov. and returns with a new barn.....seems well placed to win...75% of his career efforts are solid here

2  Kim's Leading Man   most of this one's career conventional dirt races fit well at today's lower claiming tag

6  Swongs   bit of a rogue but very dangerous if he and/or jock can smooth the kinks out and get a better journey
