Santa Anita for Sunday 20 March 2011

[private]

Races will most likely be off the grass especially the claiming race with copious amounts of rain fore-casted for today. Sloppy tracks are difficult so personally I will be taking it easy today.

Gave extra selections today because of likely scratches due to the sloppy conditions.

race 1    average clarity

2  Courtside   last Summer ran a gimme in debut...dropped for 2nd out and then won by nearly 4......so....last looks like more of the same.....tune-up in a non-claiming event to drop and go go go today

3  Tribal Wish   proven fires fresh with a couple of months off....last work on 14 March is very strong for that particular day especially considering this level of racing

race 2    average clarity

8  Brace For Impact   good speed here and bred just fine to stretch out to a 7 furlong sprint....should be prominent from the get go with a good speed rider aboard

7  Warren's Wild Thing   last 2 races fit....can Van Berg get a horse to run 3 straight decent efforts in row....fits as well as anyone if he can

9  Clocker Monent   late runner fits fairly well now that he racing at the bottom level maiden claiming races....will be mopping up the tired horses in late stretch once again

6  Forward Commitment

race 3    average clarity

3  Midnight Interlude   strong run at today's mile distance in latest almost cracking 1:35 flat which even on the fast SA surface is quite strong for a MSW 3 year old....2 useful drills since to hold form....repeat of last makes him tough to beat

2  Brock   7-2 in debut at the stellar Saratoga meeting and ran up the track.......laid up since but 2.3 million dollar animal is training great and appears well meant in his return to the race wars

4  Grip Hands   solid move forward in 2nd lifetime start and worked a nice 6 and7 furlongs to prepare for today's 1st ever at a route a ground....bred to prefer route racing and Dollase is good 1st time at a route with a baby

race 4    below average clarity  picks ironically fit fine for the turf or off the turf to the main track

1  Hamish Hy   proven at today's marathon distance albeit on the grass....in good form and bred fine to handle the slop

4  Imponente Purse   on steady improvement since Avila took over and sure handled the distance nicely in last....slop is a ? mark

7  Juniper Pass    consistent sort on the lawn....whole career on the turf but bred well to handle the slop

8  Dahoud

race 5    average clarity

8  Sea Rascal   loves conventional dirt (3 wins and 1 3rd from 4 starts on it).....and bred to handle the off condition

6  Capital Account   long layoff but 2 for 2 crushing his foes in both lifetime races......will be a good sign this colt is ready and well meant if Baffert lets him run in the slop

4  Irrefutable   yet to run anything but a highly competitive race in all 5 lifetime starts and few reason not to believe he won't again today if of course he handles the goooo

2  Victory With Honor

race 6    slightly above average clarity

8  River's Mambo   exits a very fast and a should dominate these unless the off going is a problem

4  Lily Amore   good move forward 1st after the claim for Carava.....that race fits and any more improvement would be icing on the cake

5  She'sawontontomato    also improving and route fit which can help this filly get the 7 furlongs....nice work series suggests the 6 weeks off won't be a problem

2  Whiskers And Rye

race 7    slightly below average clarity picks are for the main track

7  Canivore   monsters works since gimme in a non-claiming affair....full throttle today...ran well on a track rated good at Pha

10  Fog Alert   nice win in last 1st ever on the SA surface....bred just fine to run on the off track

5  Time For Atonement   decent dirt horse gets run against many turf types if they stay in.....slop pedigree is fine

3  They Call Him El

1  Roman Guitar

2  Michael The Man

race 8    average clarity

5  Hout Bay   broke poorly and ran 3 wide and still crushed foes in MSW debut......Sadler is terrific with young fillies and sprint races...nice work series

8  Mildy Offensive   also won MSW debut impressively and continues to work like a special filly

4  California Nectar   hard to argue with 3 wins and 2 2nd's in 5 lifetime sprints

3  Dawnie Macho

6  Justenufappeal

race 9    average clarity

8  Little Travis   sleeper is training great out of nowhere and West is heating up....sure looks like a different animal

6  Matamor   in decent form and is also working as if a forward move is likely

3  Go Go Olmo   late runner has been off since early Winter but his prolonged solid work tab says ready

4  Bay Rush

7  Warren's Temptation

9  Cut N' Deal
