Santa Anita for Thursday 7 April 2011
[private]
Santa Anita Derby week starts off with 8 of the 16 races carded for Thursday and Friday scheduled to be run on the turf. Saturday will have 5 of the 11 races on the turf. Nice to see management taking advantage of a grass course in good shape due to the ample rain this winter and spring.
Â
race 1Â Â Â slightly below average clarity
3 Turbo Tess  nicely bred 1st timer has the pedigree to be precocious early and training like she is ready....Solis is good in these 2 furlong affairs
7 Oh Righty  2nd in lone race 2 weeks ago and in that race we picked the winner on top which was another Solis runner....can he go 1-2 again...one of only 3 colts in the race
5 Lulu's Quest  impressive series of works at Hollywood for this 1ster...good gate jock aboard...Pedroza, P Val, Talamo...on our top 3...that's a good deal
1 Ellensong  works hint this filly 1st starter is fast and ready
Â
race 2Â Â Â average clarity
3 Chocalate Caliente  won for fun in mc debut and earned a par like fig for today's level....wasn't pushed much in her 11+ length win so good shot she exited her debut feeling awfully good...more likely today
4 Queen Marini  improving horse has been given a 4 month break but has been working regularly the whole time...should be ready fresh
1 Line One  finished up well closing on a somewhat dull inside part of the track....only 4 year old in the race
Â
race 3Â Â Â slightly below average clarity
5 Atticus Jack  major hidden wake up (caught wide near the pacesetters) 1st time at a route in last albeit on the main track but seems equally as good on the turf
1 Universal Peace  last 5 efforts are par like efforts considering today's 50K level
3 Allegre  barn has woken up some and the recent work series hints this horse is going to rebound
Â
race 4Â Â Â average clarity
3 Magic Spirit  tough trips in all 3 lifetime races....good trainer....good rider...overdo to get things right
7 Honor Among Us  on the right end of the learning curve....just snatched at the claiming box...smartly keeps P Val in the ironsÂ
4 Preferred Mandate  moving forward in each race since the blinkers were added....Bonde is solid with maiden claimersÂ
8 Reggiano  very nice drills on the SA surface yet made his debut at GG in a MSW affair and didn't exactly burn up the track as the favorite.....back home and drops
Â
race 5Â Â Â average clarity
3 Times Gone By  last 2 of 3 starts this 6 year old earned significantly solid figs ....seemingly appreciates contact near the front and should get it here in this race lacking speed
2 Imponente Purse  on the improve with every start since Avila took over this Midwest shipper......Sutherland is up and she has really been riding well of late
4 Bogie  highly competitive in all but his lifetime debut....very sharp 4F recent drill...sitting on a top effort 3rd after the layoff
6 Sebastian Flyte  has obviously been facing better
Â
race 6Â Â Â average clarity
4 Heavens Lake  likes the abbreviated 5 1/2 furlong sprint distance and handles the new SA conventional dirt awfully well
3 Dubai Macau Girl  5 1/2 furlongs seems like a good fit....good fresh and fresh today
7 Moon Stone Madness  drop drop drop and finally fired...may have turned the corner...P Val sticks around
1 Ann's Seven  sharp right now....unfortunately has to beat our top pick after 2 straight loses to her where she had better trips
Â
race 7Â Â Â slightly below average clarity
3 Pleasing Sunrise  2 of 4 lifetime races run on the AW are powerful efforts....bred well for the sod......hard to tell how ready he is off of the bench but seemingly a ton if he isÂ
1 Tiz A Bud Girl  was on a roll until tossed a clunker in last....Sadler stopped on him some and has given him enough time off to recovery and rebound
4 Fullbridled's Sis  good move forward in last.....horse seems to respond to Gomez....small but capable barn
2 Miss Georgie Girl  off 1 1/2 years but training up to snuff... fairly well bred to handle a grass sprint.....Walsh has popped with 6 of her last 20 1st time on the lawn
Â
race 8Â Â Â average clarity
1 Lindz Winz  good forward move in 2nd lifetime start which was on the turf and 2 solid drills since...high likelihood another improvement is imminent
5 Distant Glow  new barn takes over this laid up filly who is training as if she is ready to roll fresh off the bench for her new connections
7 Bila Shaka  two straight strong races one of which was on the turf....needs to avoid a speed duel with the 2 horse
6 On Your Mark  decent work series in preparation for her 1st on the grass for Gaines/Bejarano ...one tough combo over the years and especially of late
2 Running Isabelle  big speed on the dirt in last 1st going long.....1st on the sod but owns a good pedigree for itÂ
