Santa Anita for Saturday 16 April 2011

Two good days in a row under our belt this week and a nice looking Saturday card. Five turf races today and Six on Sunday!

[private]

race 1    slightly above average clarity

5  Dance With Gable    good chance to get a terrific chase position behind a suspect leader....love the 2 month break and the sharp drills

4  Cherokee Heaven   M Jones is very hot of late and this consistent closer is finally placed low enough where his late running style should be very formidable

3  Big Bad Leroybrown   7 year old seems to be responding with ample time between races...shot to sit in a nice ground saving mid-pack position

race 2    slightly above average clarity

6  Clue Me In   needed last after the 2 1/2 year hiatus from the racetrack......both sprints run in 2008 would handle this soft bunch

3  Smokenomore   Spawr has had a great SA meet with just about everything firing including laid up fellows like this guy.....greatly appreciates the 6F distance....does tend to hang

1  Stray Cat   owns decent early speed here in a race that lacks it.....not exactly on the top of the who is who list at SA but solid rider/trainer combo

race 3    average clarity

3  Regally Regal   after a powerful winning effort/fig 2 races back this gelding had an easy hand ride win in last which suggests he should feel really good today not having exerted himself much in his last

2  Camp Victory   impressive win on the main track in last 1st out after the claim by Mitchell....strong works since....feeling great under the auspicious of his new conditioner

6  Compari   laid up since July but 5 of 6 on the sod and Marty Jones has been ready with most of his fresh stock of late

race 4    average clarity

3  American Lady    nicely bred filly of Baffert's has works that say ready.....what a prolonged roll Baffert has been on getting his youngsters to fire at first asking

7  Orientatious   drills are up to snuff to be considered ready to compete in lifetime debut....hot trainer

2  Artuyu   exits a fast key MSW debut where this filly flashed some good early speed....fits with a logical forward move in her conditioning

race 5    slightly below average clarity

2  Hot Citizen   1 for 1 on the SA hill...just snatched at the claiming box....very consistent when placed in sprint affairs

3  Frequent Fame   solid 2nd on the hill in last versus somewhat better foes......appreciates ample time between races and gets it

4  Merrymeonemoretime   proven on the grass....crushed only race at 6 1/2...albeit on the main track.....race lacks speed and this filly owns some

1  Nothing to Fear   seemingly too far back in last......very dangerous 2nd out after the layoff if can sit a little closer

race 6    average clarity

5  She's All Yours   solid move forward and now we get an extremely positive rider switch....tough if the same horse as last....a ton if moves forward again

9  Whoopsie   another headed in the right directionboth final time wise and early speed wise

4  Luckyvic   somewhat hidden in debut in that it was a fast heat combined with a bad trip....so....beaten by a dozen not that bad....blinkers on and a sharp speed drill

6  Sweet Siouxsie and 1 R C Magic Amy (tie for 4th pick)   both dangerous 1st timers

race 7    slightly above average clarity

2  Very Fair    last 1 mile grass race run 2 back is a solid fig/effort......highly likely to grab a nice stalk/chase position

8  California Soldier   very consistent rout races on both the sod and the AW......3 wins and 3 close 2nds in last 6 starts...1st time Mitchell too

7  Via Verde   seems like new trainer claimed an improving animal.....handles the turf.....and very sharp recent drills

3  Cardiff Giant   only route grass race (and it was at today's distance) fits fine in this spot...sharp work series

race 8    average clarity

4  Privilaged    dueled in last in the nastiest of paces and still managed to win.....gets plenty of rest for those beat up legs....fresh speed can fire again

2  Lunada Bay   last race is a par like effort and it was run after a long layoff....last Spring moved forward in 2nd after the layoff

6  Booted   solid awakening 1st time blinkers in latest......continues to work like an improving sort

race 9    slightly above average clarity

6  Turning Top   1 win and 1 2nd both in Graded races at today's 1 1/4 mile distance.....looks like Bejarano took over a couple of others in here...all set for 3rd race after the layoff

1  Cozi Rosie   strong late runner is bred to appreciate the extra distance....Smith knows this filly extremely well having ridden her all 9 career races

2  Malibu Pier   on the improve with every start....but....Bejarano is not up and he has all 4 wins on this horse.....but still fits if we see the same as last....a Grade 2 winning effort

race 10    average clarity

7  Benicia Beauty   both races on conventional dirt fit fine especially her effort 3 back...good recent works suggest that race or better occurs this afternoon

2  Jade's Song   sharp work tab for this laid up filly who is now under the tutelage of the red hot Puype

9  Warren's Doctor   1st timer is training sharply for a trainer that doesn't push his 1st timers too hard...nice pedigree to handle a sprint race

10  Easy On The Eye   needed last and exits a fast heat....good likelihood we see more today

6  Sweet Consolidator   best races are at 5 1/2 furlongs....today's distance.....and we get a jockey upgrade
