Del Mar for Sunday 14 August 2011
[private]
We sure are getting some sizable fields at Del Mar. It is amazing what increased purse money does for most racetracks. Rather difficult card but I did study my brains out. Good luck as always.
Take note that our high priced top pick in the 3rd race is the same rider/trainer/owner as the longshot selection that won for us last weekend, Benny's Benchmark who paid $89.40 to win.
race 1Â Â Â average clarity
2 March Mary  CD invader is a ton here if she is ready 1st in off the ship and 1st ever on the synthetic......about 100 days off....it's magic Mike so my guess is she is ready
5 Magic Mama  was fave one week ago when reared and dumped the jock.....nothing like claiming a horse and your claim doesn't exert herself......Bejarano sticks around for the new outfit
3 Cactus House  clunker in last.....race 2 back run over 2 months ago is solid....not sure what we get today but that run 2 back with a good trip would be tough to beat
6 The Great Atlantic  last looks like a turf route tune-up......2nd time Carava after a claim is a strong historical category for him
race 2Â Â Â average clarity
8 Extensive  difficult post but can take back as he runs from far off the pace anyway....very consistent and great connections so you should get your moneys worth here
6 Cat Talk  solid front runner on the turf has a tough course to wire on but a positive rider switch to get the job done
5 Maestro  expensive horse just DQ'ed out of 1st in lifetime start and proved a route of ground is not a problem....still a MSW but pedigree suggests he will be better on the sod......smart trainer must really think she is very sharp to place her over her head
7 Lemou  Bejarano back aboard seems key here....last was a fall off but should be able to bounce back today....but still will need a very good trip to get the job run versus these
Longshot Possibilities: 1 Safe Range   invader from the Assmussen barn runs from far back and puts in big stretch drives.......lane 1 at Dmr has been conducive for his style
race 3   slightly below average clarity
2 Let Me Finish  broke poorly and ran wide in maiden debut......even showed a little pace taking into account his bad start......subtle positive rider switch.....the one to beat if this colt can show the same energy with a better trip
1 Valen  drop out of MSW racing after 2 useful runs this year in grass sprints should have him fit enough for the mdn40K levelÂ
4 Roark  decent looking drills for this 1st timer........trainer makes the most out of limited starters
3  Sentry Duty  not a lot of speed in this affair and this horse has some and gets 10 lbs off....might really fly early in this spot
race 4Â Â Â slightly below average clarity
2 Judge Joan  consistent sort loves the 6 1/2 sprint distance and now has the support of the hot trainer rider combo of Aquirre/Quinonez
1 Cato Major  another with stellar history at the distance......back in 4 days.....O'neill is good at micro rest....few are
9 Indiara  last race with 2 months between starts produced a solid 2nd at a couple of claiming levels higher
6 Sing Sing Cindrela   just claimed by Carava.....solid race in last for Mitchell that fits fine here....Carava/Pedroza are starting to heat up as team
race 5Â Â Â average clarity
2 Ivanho  decent sprint grass run in last for his new trainer.....Bejarano sticks with the horse who looks as if he can be on or near the lead in an affair lacking speed.....bred just fine to last a mile on the sod
4 Tiz Gianni  strong late stretch runner will be hoping for more pace in this race than anticipated
7 Quantity  decent sprint debut closing into a slow pace....36 to 1 for a Proctor 1ster says that was the gimme to tighten up and run at full throttle today going a route of ground
1 Whipstock  strong debut run in last on the AW.......1st long and 1st on the grass but bred beautifully for both....tough post or would have been rated higher
race 6Â Â Â average clarity
7 Love My Way   loose on the lead in MSW debut was not the place to be on outsidish opening day at Dmr.......just worked a blazing bullet drill at 5F....set and very ready for her 2nd lifetime start
2 Eileen's Dream  big drills for this Sadler 1ster who is an expensive purchase and he made it just 5 months ago so he pretty much knew what he was getting
11 Muse Of Fire  what's new another Baff 1ster cranked up and seemingly ready to roll
1 Silent Saga  decent MSW debut and has a quick drill since......Cho is good with 2 year olds....believe moves forward and competes well here
race 7Â Â Â slightly below average clarity
7 Visual Intensity  1st time in the Jones barn and training very fast for Jones who seldom pushes his stock....decent chance he has improved this horse and he was already a decent runner for Sise
10 Gab Power   sharp in th a.m. and his grass history fits well....must overcome a difficult post
6 Prince Of Gotham  ran a solid effort at 43 to 1 when last ran off of layoff.....training as though history can repeat itself.....1 for 1 on the Dmr grass course
2 Lodi Red  late runner really gets rolling when he runs further then 1 mile....laid up awhile but training sharp (very impressive 6F gate bullet a week ago) and runs just fine fresh
race 8Â Â Â average clarity
2 Evita's Sister  out running her odds.....Sadler is one happy guy he didn't loose this well bred filly 2 back when she started her career for a tag......sister to Evita Argentine who liked the Del Mar.....love the way she closed in last into little pace just like sis would....impressive recent 6F work
10 Glamorista  won easy in MSW debut and earned a fig that's about a length better then par for today's loftier level.....sketchy work pattern since for a Baffert runner or would have been top choice
1 Good Vibrations  nice animal since Cecil took over the training duties..........last win came off of about a 5 month layoff which is close to the same amount between starts this time around....my guess is Cecil has her ready for a peak fresh effort once again
4 Pink Leninade   owns very good early speed in this spot......Hendricks is a good route to sprint conditioner and this filly is 1 for 1 sprinting on the main track
race 9Â Â Â slightly above average clarity
7 Celtic Princess  proved she can sit just off the pace and that will most likely be their tactic as I doubt they want to trade blows with our 3rd choice...works suggest this mare is still very sharp
2 Cozi Rosie  this talented filly is training as though she has never been sharper and 1st time blinkers maybe part of the reason why....love Gomez on this closer
3 Wasted Tears  believe no one in here will want to compromise their chances by pressed this front runner and she is ratable as witnessed by 48 flat 112 flat internal fractions to wire last year in this race
4 Malibu Pier  solid races at 1 1/8 or longer......1 for 1 at Dmr and 5 of 8 lifetime on the sod......classic stalking style that does so well in distance turf races
race 10Â Â Â average clarity
11 You Little Devil  bad trip in last hides a major improvement.....jock will be out to make amens....same horse and a better trip and he will be tough to beat
3 Del Mar Dude  exits a fast heat for the given level.....3rd place can back to win quite easy as our top pick....of course
4 Half Dome Dude  Mitchell 1st timer has strong recent drills especially considering the low rent district mc level
8 Spurr Road   Baffert drop down owns good early speed and draws Bejarano to ride......needs to only move forward in 2nd lifetime race a couple of lengths to be formidable here
2 Brother Ernie  good speed in this spot....tends to flatten out but does lure Gomez to ride
7 We Wanted More  bombed in debut but is training very aggressively since......trainer is decent with 2nd time starters.....not impossible
NOTE: 14 Detective Poirot fits solidly if he draws in from the AE's
