Santa Anita for Thursday 27 October 2011
[private]
Decent looking card today to hopefully get us off to a good start for the 2nd to last week of the Fall SA meeting.
Breeders Cup selections can now be purchased for $24.95 which covers both days. The sooner you make payment the better as it will help things out if there are any late technical problems. The format will be the same as our California selections but we will give more horses per race than what we do on our regular daily format. I'm looking forward to getting back on track after a poor Breeders Cup showing last year.
race 1 average clarity
6 Royal Import claimed 7 of his last 10 outings including a 2nd time by Bonde......dull works prior to last running in a marathon at Fpx......toss it out......very strong works now especially for a 12.5K claimer....appreciates the new SA dirt surface.....
3 Elusive Schemes solid figs/efforts running on conventional dirt.......also very consistent with 5 wins. 5 2nd's, & 5 3rd's in 19 races on it......will be chasing our 3rd choice from the get go......trainer is having a stellar meet
4 Capture The Call significant speed in two turn affairs now puts the blinkers on.....should be loose and if the blinkers help him focus he can be mighty stout down the stretch
race 2 average clarity
1 Jack O Lyn good move forward in 2nd lifetime start both pace and final time wise......will be the one to beat with a clean trip....new jock to the S Cal scene is riding better then his record indicates
6 Debits And Credits solid enough work series for a 2 year old colt debuting at the Mdn 30K level
2 Arathorn bit sketchy of a work pattern for this 1ster but does work very quick at times and his conditioner is good with maiden claiming 1st timers
8 Pometheus last was probably needed in that Hector Palma is much better with 2nd time starters and the the works continue to get better
race 3 above average clarity
5 Rainbow Luck last win came back in winter as follows: a SA 1 mile grass race to 6 1/2 furlong grass sprint with 21 days in between.....same scenario today with 18 days.....and Mitchell is hot once again and seemingly makes another sharp move
4 Cactus Flyer par or better for today's level 5 of her 6 grass races on The Racing Digest's Top Turf Today the quintessential service for grass performance ratings
2 Melbisha dull recent form but recently training much better and now look who rides.......Bejarano.......horse feels good and should make a rebound
7 Rebecca fits here if she fires her race but she owns a sketchy work pattern and was a vet scratch 3 weeks ago in an alw affair.........dangerous but iffy
race 4 below average clarity
5 Sky Angel logical layoff drop for this filly who only earned 5K in six MSW races......work regiment is solid enough to be ready versus this soft looking mdn20K bunch
9 Aurelia D showed some run in last couple of starts......trainer is wisely putting some endurance into this filly (7F drill just 6 days ago).....can sit close early and can be there all the way with a small forward move
8 Leggylangleylassie useful debut and will need to improve in her 2nd lifetime start......believe P Val took our top choice but Bejarano grabs the mount....a positive sign
3 Right Smart Secret needs to vault forward a couple of lengths......maybe back in very short rest can do the trick
race 5 above average clarity
7 Promiscuossuances race lacks speed and if this filly takes to the lawn she will open up a nice lead.......on the main track she is capable of holding together while cutting fast fractions......grass pedigree seems good enough
2 Charm The Crowd powerful grass figs for today's level at 1 mile.......1st down the hill but I doubt the new experience will be a problem.....should be flying late
3 Big Tsimmis both lifetime turf sprints aren't bad but most likely will need quite a bit better or a distinct trip advantage to overcome Doug O'Neill's double barrel action in the 2 and the 7
5 Benecia trainer's stock is firing and this filly is improving.....only grass race was a route where she showed a liking to the sod to some degree and not to a route of ground....turf sprint today
race 6 average clarity
10 Once In Awhile good return to the race wars in latest winning despite a bad trip.......needs a repeat performance with a little better journey
4 Magic Mam last looks like a turf tightener and the works since that gimme strongly suggest it worked.....only good races are on conventional dirt and gets back on it this afternoon....nice price shot
6 Bella Gionatta 2 of her best of 10 lifetime races are the only 2 races she has run on the new SA dirt course
2 L'enchanteresse horse sure should be highly competitive in this spot but she is the ultimate hanger......P Val needs to be all over her late using all his expertise to somehow get her nose in front when it counts......right at the wire
Longshot of the day: 9 Dynahere our 2nd choice might be better odds then this gal but she is also dangerous at a price.....ran wide thru-out in last and only got beat by 7 in a route turf race.......must have legged her up some because she just worked nicely on the SA dirt
race 7 average clarity
8 Spirit Seeker horse has won her last 3 races on conventional dirt......trainer is hot.....mare likes to sit 1st or 2nd and only has one speed type to cope with in no. 9...great scenario for the likes of Bejarano at the controls
3 Smart Striking laid up but running for the lowest level ever.....Simon Callaghan is have a very good 2011.....usually sends his horse's out fit and ready
2 She's Very Rare exits a fast heat with a win at Fpx 1st out after the claim by V Garcia.....(who says you can't claim from Mitchell)....that was a 2 turn 7F race so 1 mile seems doable for this mare who is seemingly in sharp form
6 Chokecherymary consistent sort will be hoping for more pace up front than anticipated to flatter her late kick.....can compete here if she gets it
race 8 slightly above average clarity
9 Mr. Newton outer-most post but owns good early speed.....1st ever on "dirt" but training as if the switch to it will be a very good thing
8 Ithoughtipaidyou good wake up in last in a fast heat run at Fpx.....needs to move forward again and gets a positive rider switch to help her along......also owns some early foot
7 Swiss Game blinkers off and/or 1st on conventional dirt moved this one forward in last......shot for more this afternoon 2nd out after the layoff
2 Thief River on the improve with every start and few reasons not to believe the trend can't continue
1 My Royal Knight doubt can win this but has shown enough ability to possible grab a piece of the pie here
3 Warren's Vanwinkle seemingly best of what's left......small slice of the pie only
