Santa Anita for Thursday 3 November 2011
[private]
Good looking card to start off one of the most exciting weeks in horse racing. I kind of like evaluating the races minus many of the top name jocks who are in Kentucky for the B. C.
Not too late to sign up for the special Breeders Cup selections. Note: We will cover the B C Ladies' Classic and the BC Classic in our regular SA publication. Both Publications will be available the night before their respective race days.
race 1Â Â Â slightly above average clarity
2 Muny  only one lifetime fig/effort doesn't fit well in this spot.....most likely feels good because Mitchell steps this gelding up a notch
3 Kelly Lark  rather decent runs down the SA hill turf course some of which are better than appear in print
1 Oak Kye Why  brilliant turf speed routing but tires in late stretch quite often......cut back to a sprint seems overdo since this gelding showed an infinity to sprint races on the synthetic.....has a shot to boost career in 1st ever grass sprint
6 Caught A Flyer  appears the trainer is trying to help this turf sprinter's endurance and ability to rate with 2 consecutive 1 mile works....rather unusual but very interesting
race 2Â Â Â slightly above average clarity
5 Frisco Kid  Headley has had a great meet and sends out a well worked laid up runner that has a distinct advantage both pace and final time over this field if he returns with his "A Game"
2 Street Titan  solid drills for this 1st time Mitchell runner who is racing at his lowest level ever......very dangerous especially if our top pick doesn't bring the aforementioned "A game"
3 My Top Cat  lone race way back in April was a decent MSW effort down the SA hill especially considering today's much lower lower.....good work tab.....rather sure ready off of the long layoff
6 Fine And Rare  best ever was fresh (4 1/2 months) off of the bench and it was on the SA new surface.....same situation today except 7 1/2 months
race 3Â Â Â slightly above average clarity
7 Platinum Lover  exits a very fast heat on the dirt with a near miss and it was this colt's 1st route race ever.......impressive and Ellis horse's have been firing of late....1st on the grass this time but bred to handle it
8 Whipstock  done little wrong in 3 lifetime starts.......ran 2nd in lone grass race despite a wide journey
2 Ultimate Decision  proven on the sod and handle two turns on the dirt......Ellis charge is training sharply.....ice cold rider needs a confidence boost and it might be a good weekend to get things rolling with most of the top echelon jockeys spending the week at Churchill Downs
9 Great Rising Star  last was rather good and this colt has a good history at the distance of 1 mile running solid figs on the turf and the AW at today's distance
race 4Â Â Â average clarity
1 Dixie Trouper  major wake-up in last and the race looked needed.....maybe sitting on a big race at a price
3 Derive  exits a very fast 5F heat at Tup......solid here if he is capable of repeating the same this afternoon.....owns significant early speed
7 Clue Me In  hard to argue with 3 wins and 3 2nd's in the last 6 races......new barn off of the claim.....trainer has had a rebound year
5 Joyful Success  horse sure likes the dirt at SA....last shot to run on it for a couple of months....trainer has been fairly hot of late and so has the jock
race 5Â Â Â average clarity
6 Silencio Gato  significant improve in last somewhat hidden with a bad trip.......freshened up and the a.m. work has never been better.....sure looks well meant...improved.....and sharpened
9 Emperor Stone  good year layoff run in last which was run on the dirt........capable on the grass as well....seemingly should sit close to the front in a race that appears to be lacking much speed
1 Ribat  only turf race run was without the blinkers (like today) was a par like effort for today's level......last looks like it may have been a needed effort....if so this colt fits some here
8 Unusual Jazz  quite the wake in last first ever on the sod....surely has the right to improve 2nd out after the extended hiatus from the races.....snap out of it Valdivia
race 6Â Â Â average clarity
9 No Flies On Doodle  hidden last.....rank early and dueled on a slightly dead inside.......trainer's stock have been firing
5 Miss Addy Kiss  last couple are fairly solid efforts since this mare has learned to rate.....seemingly would be wise to take back once again
2 Capalatte  Lage shipped this filly to Dmr in July from up north and just missed....he tries it again this time into SA.....lone conventional dirt race was just fine.....does tend to hang
7 Hot Citizen  down down down the claiming ladder......late runner can be flying late.....trainer sure could use a win....dangerous if the speed hooks up
race 7Â Â Â slightly below average clarity
5 Cayanna  very good consistency for this filly.....improved work.....sure looks like she can sit behind a suspect leader in our 4th choice
7 Glorified  on the right end of the learning curve........laid up since mid summer but training as if she is all set to roll fresh off of the bench for sharp conditioner
6 So Belle  like our top pick this filly may get a very nice chase position in the race and be a big factor by the 2nd turn or stretch
1 Princess Suances  here's that leader.......jock needs to slow things down to have a shot at the top prize
race 8Â Â Â average clarity
2 Pop The Cork  rather sure this O'Neill 1st timer is well enough prepared to compete for win in a mid priced maiden claimer
1 Solana Soleil  decent move forward in 2nd lifetime start and just worked a sharp 4F last week indicating another forward move is about to occur this afternoon
11 Forever Freedom  Mitchell 1ster hasn't missed a beat in the morning.....seems ready to roll in maiden debut
10 Marshland  M Jones 1ster timer also looks dangerous in his debut into the wonderful world of thoroughbred racing
8 Juan's Twin   another 1st timer worked up to snuff for his maiden debut.......low % jock but not when he rides for Sal Gonzalez
9 Deal' Em  small potatoes trainer but yet another 1ster that is training as if ready in debut.....lone win for the year for the trainer was with Atkinson aboard
