Santa Anita for Sunday 6 November 2011
[private]
Decent looking card today if the rain stays away enough to keep the track fast. Be back with you on Thursday at Hollywood Park and their "best in class" synthetic racetrack that I have grown to appreciate.
race 1Â Â Â Â below average clarity
3 Sabe  gelded since last race and the blinkers on.......seems more likely to run his race 2 back that should handle these as opposed to his last which might not
7 Teancum  running quite well at smaller circuits......Eswan Flores has finally arrived as a good apprentice.....in for 35K so 2 lbs off for that and 7 lbs off for the apprentice allowance....such a deal
1 May Weather  back to maiden claiming where he probably should have been the whole time......race run 3 back would make him formidable here
2 Thunder Of India  might be a bit of a sneaky 1st timer.......not working that great but Carava his won before with similar so so drills with a maiden claiming 1ster
race 2   turf selections    5-2-8-3    average clarity
5 Bonita Star  all career grass races look solid versus this group.....tailed off a little in last but even that effort fits in this spot....good gd/yl turf pedigree
race 2   dirt selections    3-8-4-7   below average clarity
3 Valentine's Wish  last looks like the route tune-up off of the 3 1/2 month hiatus from the track.....so much more proven on the dirt than others in here....seems like a significant advantage
race 3Â Â Â above average clarity
7 Backwoods Belle  Sadler looks like he made a very good claim here and that is why I believe he has been patient with this filly training her his way for the past 3 months.....drills sure suggest she is ready
3 Tasty Treat  very quick debut running an excellent time at the abbreviated 4 furlong sprint distance at Fpx......good speed rider in Pedroza will try at get loose and it being Sunday and all........he might go.................all.................the.....................way
2 Your special Day  bad trip in debut and still won going away in hand......good series of works since.....should once again be motoring late
6 Punch Drunk  on the right end of the learning curve and just claimed by O'Neill......good sign Bejarano wants the mount back
race 4Â Â Â average clarity
3 Octogarian  excellent early speed in 1st ever on conventional dirt in latest......looks like O'Neill realizes this speedster might be a lead type only so it is blinkers on and he keeps P Val aboard
2 Portfolio  probably needed her last and an extra 1/2 furlong today looks as if it should be a solid plus....sure seems poised for a top effort
7 Queenofcalifornia  just snatched at the claiming box by Dallas Keen and the works for Keen suggest he might have the trump card for this filly.....seems interesting that he is out of jail with the horse and still steps her up
6 Warren's Idol  trainer in awakening and this filly does her best running on conventional dirt and this is her last chance to run on it locally till the last week in December
race 5   turf selections   11-7-6-1      average clarity
11 Khendum  mare is better on the grass than appears in print.......also I think that a one turn grass affair is right up her alley (tends to run too wide in two turn affairs)
race 5   dirt selections   6-4-1-10     below average clarity
6 Eula B.  MSW debut last on the maid track was decent....showed good speed.....should be prominate from the get go with the right jock aboard
race 6Â Â Â average clarity
8 Music Thunder  exits a fast heat in last and it was somewhat of a bummer that we caught a Baffert monster because she was our longshot of the day when she ran 2nd at 68 to 1 ($39.60 place)......anyway (regressing).....the horse that ran 3rd behind her came back to win which supports the fast time
5 Chick Flick  decent debut last and should be as good as any in here if she moves forward today in her 2nd start of her life......Madella has won 20 of his last 100 with 2nd timers
9Â Hannah GÂ Â debut 2 back wasn't bad......last on the grass should leg this filly up and help her endurance.....good late running jock up who has had a recent winner for Martin
2 Avarooskie  dangerous looking work regiment for this Koriner 1st timer with the fun name
race 7   turf selections   3-6-5-7   below average clarity
3 Laura Beasley  last win came 1 3/8th turf race cutting back to 1/16th turf race......1 1/4 to 1 m cut back today.....mare's grass career is better than appears in print
race 7   dirt selections   1-10-4-2   average clarity
1 Really Elegant  Smith sure looks loose here if the race is moved to the main track........2 wins and a 2nd loose on the lead at a mile in 3 wire to wire attempts all at 1 mile....both wins were on conventional dirt
race 8Â Â Â average clarity
4 March Mary  a ton here if this drop downs health is still intact.....last win came with Talamo aboard
2 Magicallytown  chased a hot pace in last and rightfully tired......positive rider switch (2 of last 3 for trainer0.....take note won fairly easily in lone race on an off track
1 Tuesdays With P  claimed from Mitchell and now drops quite a bit.......suspect situation but will fit if not too fragile
7 Michailasheartlite  wide trip in last hides somewhat.......takes a more logical drop after the Mitchell claim
race 9   average clarity  (Picks are for the grass. Leaning on it being a good or yielding grass course. It will take lot of rain to take a Grade 2 off the grass)
2 All Star Heart  filly just keeps getting better and better and better and she is 4 of 5 at today's distance
6 Private Affair  quality marathon runner.....normally I would say a mile turf affair would be too short but with a good or yielding course front runners might labor more than normal
1 City To City  decent history at 1 mile.......if the course gets to the point of being labeled soft this filly might be compromised by her pedigree that fits firmer turf better
5 Malibu Pier  poor effort in last but has rebounded nicely off of dull efforts in the past.......positive rider switch to Rosario from slumping Blanc
race 10Â Â Â average clarity
5 King Of Swing  last looks like the tune-up to drop maiden claiming price by 60% and go go go in 2nd lifetime endeavor
9 Sunday Seeker  done little wrong in 4 lifetime starts......top N Cal gun Russell Baze accepted this mount in all 4 occasions and that sure seems like a good thing
12 Nuclear Missile  lone race way back in March fits fine versus this group/level and it was run on an off track
6 Steel Trick  not much in two lifetime starts but the recent stellar work tab hint that things will be different today
8 Danceswiththewind  clunker in last but debut run 2 back isn't too bad......still this Salt Lake baby will need best ever
1 Onebadboy  cheap speed is on the rail so the question is how has the inside and or speed done today?
Longshot of the Day:  10 Siberian Ruble  31 to 1 at Fpx in debut last suggests the race was very needed......nice work tab since and a switch to a jock Periban has had good success with in the past......might be a big price....bigger then the morning line
