Hollywood for Sunday 13 Novenber 2011

[private]

At last sunny skies in S Cal. and a good looking card. That is what I signed up for when I purchased The Racing Digest formerly known as Martin Dermer's Racing Digest.

race 1    average clarity

5  He's A Bandit   solid race only effort on the Hol AW......coming off an easy 5 length win at a route sets him up nicely to finish well in this extended 1 turn race

6  Tio Vic   won debut with a good trip.....ran 3rd in his other 2 lifetime starts with bad trips......switch to Bejarano who has won 5 of his last 1/2 dozen mounts for Hollendorfer

1  Got Even   Gomez wired the field in a 6F affair in last......looks loose again but this time will need to get 7 1/2 furlongs.....will need to cut soft fractions and might be able to

race 2    average clarity

4  Mayakoba Mesa    I think 6 straight non-winning MSW races say it is time to drop into maiden claiming.......seems overdo.....fits well now

7  Our Bonita   5 MSW races for this girl.......finally drops and her good early speed should last a lot longer at the mc40K level

6  Golden Nip   4 MSW races for our 3rd drop down in this field into maiden claiming

3  Bud And Brandy   last looks like a tune-up in maiden (mc) debut......positive rider switch......and conditioner Troeger is much better with 2nd time starters

race 3    average clarity

2  Sea Rascal   stellar history when Bejarano rides this 8 year old who appreciates the Hol AW and the 61/2 furlong distance.....must still be very sharp for Hollendorfer to step up an 8 year old claimer

5  Maybe Yes   horse fires 2nd out after layoffs and that is the scenario today

4  Wall Street Wonder   doubt doing all that well these days but this ex-Stakes horse sure looks loose in this spot

race 4    average clarity

1  Empire Way   1st timer didn't come cheaply but his work tab hints that the money paid might have been worth it.......not a great post for a 1ster but the field is small and that should help Rosario cope with the 1 hole.....Harrington wins at about a 20% clip with 2 year old 1st timers

2  Holy Candy   another 1st timer training like he is meant and ready to run into his debut into the wonderful world of S Cal thoroughbred racing

5  Take No Prisoners   Baffert 1st timer is training well enough that he might be ready to roll at 1st asking

race 5    average clarity

9  Lauren C   classic.....place higher in claiming tag off of the layoff.......run a gimme.....train sharply......drop and go go go go go

7  Bar Room Gal   stepped up the claiming ladder quite nicely this summer.......4 wins and 4 2nds in last 10 starts.....vet scr. 23 Oct but has 2 decent reassuring works since

6  Sheshimaintenance   seems to be on a rebound of sorts.......Kory Owens has done pretty well this year in S Cal.......last Stra - Owens runner won at a price

5  Lisa Lulu   finally drops to the bottom where her efforts/figs fit.....but she still needs to overcome her tendency to hang   (AW  26  1  1  10)

race 6    slightly below average clarity

6  Lovestealer   exits a fast heat of mdn50k animals......pace and final time both showed marked improvement over her mc debut......bred nicely for the grass....can be prominent from the get go which seems like a good thing in this large field

10  My Sweet Candy   Sadler 1st timer sure looks wound up like a top and ready to go.....has worked every 6 days or less for 7 straight weeks....happy healthy 1st timer....also with good grass pedigree

2  La Malaguena   solid 2nd in debut which was down the SA hill turf course......should fire again....might need to show more early speed with only 6F and a large field to cope with

11  Special Charm   2 decent sprints on the AW and then a very nice route turf race........tough post or I would have rated higher......move her up a few notches if she gets some scratches inside of her

race 7    slightly above average clarity

6  Charm The Maker   towers over the field if she runs anywhere close to her last race......workouts say she is still sharp......sure looks like a confidence builder

4  Willa B Awesome   after running a strong 2 turn winning race in a Fpx sprint this filly dueled in strong pace and held impressively for 2nd in a 1 1/16 race Stakes at SA....obviously appreciates 2 turn racing.....very dangerous if gets loose and reasonable on the front end

5  Oblivion   2 for 2 on the AW at GG....1st long and 1st for Gaines......good drills and decent breeding to handle the route of ground

race 8    slightly above average clarity

6  Square Deal   stellar turf sprinter at 5 and 6 furlongs.......good history when Espinoza rides........very sharp in the a.m.

3  Red Defense   ultra consistent gelding on any surface.....continues to train sharply......should be flying late once again and Rosario has only a small field to maneuver around or through

1  Jim's No Preacher   brilliant pace and final time on the dirt at SA in last......only turf race is weak but it might have been a needed run having come off a 1/2 year layoff....very fast recent 5/8ths drill.....dangerous wire to wire threat

race 9    average clarity

10  Valley Fog   not crazy about blinkers on in last....off today.....race 2 back without the blinkers is a vastly improved effort albeit on the turf......cut back in distance in these 7 1/2 affairs is often the ticket to success....jock knows horse well

3  Looking For Candy   positive rider switch....most proven at 7 and 7 1/2 furlongs in this field

9  Full Deputy   only race at Hollywood was a par like effort for today's level and it was a route race....toss out last as it looks like this colt doesn't like conventional dirt surfaces

8  The Hunt Is On    positive rider switch.......ultimate test for Rosario who gets more hangers to win than any jock I can recollect.......worst hanger in S Cal by far....last race is better than it appears in print

4  Benny's Bench Mark   when The Racing Digest selected this runner to win at 47 to 1 and he won we got a little lucky in that he had a good trip and a so so final time.......but when we didn't have him (in his last on the AW) at 37 to 1 he ran big both pace and final time wise.....lookout if he fires that race today

1  Wild And True   positive.....every other sort is on the every......negative.....7 1/2 doesn't exactly look like a good fit

Longshot possibilities:  2  Stick To The Plan   up the track in 2 starts on conventional dirt tracks after being laid up a long time....but careful because he is back to the AW where he has never popped a bad race
