Santa Anita for Friday 27 January 2012
Good card today and a better than average card Saturday (wagering wise) bodes well for our weekend of racing. Very nice quality on Saturday as well with only 1 claiming race out of 10 carded races. I will look at the 3 races at GP which are part of the $1 pick 6 with the 3 races at SA. If I have a strong opinion on any or all of the GP races I will let you know in Sat's "Digest". Also, with the early post Saturday I will have the picks up between 8 a.m. & 8:30 a.m. pacific time. Good luck this weekend!

race 1Â Â Â average clarity
3 Cee's The Year  earned a strong adjusted for multiple trouble fig in lone conventional dirt race.......laid up but is training up to snuff.....only cost 14K so why not come out for 40K
6 One Fast Frog  last sure looks like the tune-up to drop and go go go.....race 2 back fits fine
7 Regina S.  16 to 1 in mc debut last suggests the run was needed and more and maybe enough can be expected today
race 2Â Â Â average clarity
5 Hog's Hollow  the key here appears to be that Bejarano is back aboard (3 2 1 0).....horse really responses to his presence.......also 1 1/4 looks like a good fit
4 Falcon Rock  has been up against quite a bit better for a prolonged period.....handles long distance affairs........should fit well in a 10 furlong alw race
2 Dynamic Host  ran lifetime best 3 races back the only time this gelding ran 1 1/4 miles and it doesn't look all that stout in print.....last win for this gelding came the last time Rosario rode
race 3Â Â Â average clarity
6 Gnarly Dude  SCRATCHED Â
5 Cat In The Forest  good history on "fast" rated conventional dirt.......just claimed by Hess and he wisely retains Rosario who has a solid history with this gelding
7 Edgewick Road  Quinonez knows and fits this closer well.......colt keeps stepping up the claiming ladder and competing fairly well.....feeling good
8 Runaway Wildcat  hard to argue with 3 wins.....1 2nd.....1 3rd......on 5 races on "real" dirt.....another positive is his 1 for 1 record at today's distance
race 4Â Â Â average clarity
3 Flashy Dame  faced 2 monsters in MSW debut.......winner came back to win a Grade 2 and 2nd broke her MSW by double digits in her next out....training great.....sure seems rather solid here
9 Salt Tequila Lime  easily the best work tab of the 4 first timers in this race....what's new for a Baffert 1ster
7 Lady Vivien  jock has won 6 of the last dozen mounts for Belvoir.....lone race last September which was run at Emd was quite good........sharp work tab for this filly who owns some good early speed
6 Nihilist  near miss for the win in lone race of career which was run in late summer.......has worked a total of 28 furlongs in the last 4 weeks.......sure seems fit and well meant in her return to the race wars
race 5Â Â Â above average clarity
3 Always A Chance   broke slow and ran wide in MSW debut and still almost won.....switches from a dirt sprint to a grass route.......solid pedigree to handle the new challengeÂ
7 Spring Bloom  2 good sprint races on the turf and now attempts to do as well in a route on the grass.....good breeding to get a turf mile.....would have been top choice if it wasn't for the lack of recent works
8 Sassy And Single  good close in MSW debut sprint race from far back........good work series since....seems well prepared for 1st at a route
2 Speedway Monkey  bet to fave in last 2 on the AW....continues to work like a good horse.....maybe the switch to the sod can awaken in the p.m
race 6Â Â Â average clarity
2 Nome  broke slow and ran wide and still managed to score in his maiden debut at 31 to 1......and it sure is impressive that he has put in a 5F and 2 6F drills since.......must have come out of the race super
6 Forest Souvenir  solid efforts in both lifetime races on conventional dirt.......been laid up since 1 Oct but seems to be working well enough to fire fresh off of the bench
1 Oh Righty  good wire to wire win in last which was run fresh off a 9 month layoff.......like our top pick he has trained well since....seems like more is possible
8 Put It There  still a mdn but figs/efforts fit fine at today's level.......Cerin is having a decent meet and is quite good 2nd start after a new acquisition
race 7Â Â Â above average clarity
2 Matto Mondo   fired a strong winning mile grass race off of 27 days rest in last......1 mile on the grass again and with......27 days rest......also is 6 for 9 at that distance....yikes
6 Golden Mexico  speed distance turf  horse is a good fit for the 40K level.......works seem better than before......a disappointing 4 to 5 3rd place finish
4Â Deacon Speakin'Â Â has fired solid efforts 2nd out after a layoff in the past and his layoff run in last was better than it appears in print........closer also should get the needed pace up front in this affair to flatter his late kick...should go off at a handsome price
5 Where's The Remote  needs a wake up call and maybe the blinkers on can do the trick.....or maybe not
race 8Â Â Â average clarity
3 Tale Be Told   seems to be sharpening both in the p.m. and the recent a.m.......likes today's 5 1/2 furlong distance.......seems to be sitting on a good effort
2 Bertrando Grande  useful debut and better morning work since.......likely to move forward today in 2nd lifetime start
8 Sky Larkin  race 2 back is fairly good......big excuse in last...acted up badly at the gate.....keep on eye on his behavior today
12 Royal Alexander  woke up in last both final time and pace wise.......very formidable if this gelding moves forward again
11Â Zander
4Â Mary's App
NOTE: 13 Idontrollonshabbos would be my 1st 2nd or 3rd (depends who scratches) choice if he draws into the field from the AE's
