Santa Anita for Friday 3 February 2012

[private]

With the very early post time on Sunday (11 a.m Pacific time) we will be posting both Saturday and Sunday by 9 a.m. Saturday, Pacific time.

Not the best of cards today. After having 12 of the last 17 top choice picks win I would be happy with 3 wins on this lackluster card.

race 1    average clarity

4  Summer Movie   the age old ? with large drop downs in claiming price....healthy enough or please claim me.....only 15 races in 3 years so why not drop to 25K....a ton if still sound

5  Kelly Leak   best effort ever was on conventional dirt....finally back to it for his new trainer.....seems like a smart move

6  El Maritillo   declining Baffert horse drops again.......2 for 3 at the distance

2  Special Kid   will need very best in this spot....gets 7 lbs off switching from a cold jock to a somewhat hot apprentice rider

race 2    average clarity

2  Indian Firewater   great spot for a very ratable sort.......should be able to get loose here with a very reasonable pace and be difficult to get by in the stretch

1  Supreme Summit   good set of drills for this laid up horse of quality....back to the conventional dirt and blinkers off.....both look like good moves

3  Tweebster   much needed drop to give this 5 year old a confidence boost.....won 3 consecutive alw races before running in 6 straight Stakes races all without any wins

race 3    average clarity

6  My Yammy Heat   42 to 1 in a debut MSW turf affair has gimme written all over it......drops....gets a positive rider switch.....good shot we see much more this afternoon

8  Pool Of Fire   best of three lifetime races was her lone effort on conventional dirt.....laid up since mid July but working like she is ready to roll fresh off of the bench

2  Flashy Rae   first timer is training up to snuff and shows hints of early speed in his works.....and a good gate jock gets the call

7  Jammied Up   dangerous 1st timer trainer in Dean Pederson.....works seem good enough for a bottom level three year old filly maiden claimer

race 4    below average clarity

8  Candys Girl   Mitchell has a stellar history the 1st time he takes over the training duties of a maiden claimer.....laid up filly has a tightly spaced series of works...every 4 or 5 days.....I am a big fan of "interval" training

7  Johanns Kee   didn't get to show her significant early speed in latest after getting bumped at the start....repeat of her race 2 back would put her on the lead here with a good speed rider aboard

5  Warren's Jazz Walk   decent layoff effort in last,,,,,trainer is usually better 2nd out after a layoff

4  My Joycie   laid up since June and the rest might do the trick for this filly who is training like her top form may have returned....she has run 2 lifetime races that would fit solidly here including her maiden debut

race 5    below average clarity

3  Lodi Red   has been facing quite a bit better.....last 3 of 5 grass efforts are very formidable here.....drop seems like a logical one because he has only 1 win in 18 career starts

4  Geniality  this filly must be feeling quite good for Sadler to run her against the boys...she owns solid early speed and might be able to shake clear in this spot

7  Warrens Wild Thing   solid efforts in his last 3 of 4 races including his last which was on the SA turf course with the rail at same 24 ft.  position and at 1 mile and at the 7 post

1  Uzziah   deep closer sat way too far back in last and did well to make up 14 lengths....seemingly plenty of pace in the affair....might shock them late

race 6    average clarity

2  Kindle   likes 4 to 5 weeks between races and gets it.......dueled in a brutal pace in last and still only got beat by 3 lengths...is capable of rating as the 1 and the 8 (the fave) also are quite quick early

5  Salty Sarah   good chance to sit behind a pace that can soften things up for her....that is what occurred in her last

4  Top Debutante   plenty of pace might sets things up for this off pace runner as it did last time out.......1 for 1 at today's distance winning by 4 lengths

1  Excellent News    like our top pick this mare set incredibly fast fractions and rightfully tired (1st time blinkers for that race)......good history at SA

race 7    above average clarity

1  La Sombre   very impressive win in last.........her 1st time on the majestic and unique SA hill turf course.....good shot at repeating here

7  Transgression   won from the clouds in her 1st and only grass race which was a 6F affair at Hol......extra 1/2 furlong sure appears to be a plus

10  Lofty Ambition    one for one on the hill and her other race on the grass in a turf mile is quite good......1st time Jones and a recent drill he put into her is solid especially for him as he doesn't push them too hard in the a.m. usually

2  Sarasota Sunshine   good history fresh for this Mitchell charge.......put up for 40K claiming so I doubt this is a tune-up or Mitchell would most likely have used an alw race for a tune-up

Possible Long-shot:  6  There Is No Limit   sat way too far back in last down the hill....previous hill race back in Oct is strong.....will most likely need a nice ground saving trip to have any shot....positive jock switch

race 8    average clarity

8  El Merito   extremely wide in last on the grass and only got beat by 4 versus much better.....1st ever on any main track surface but lookout if gelding handles it....1 1/8 miles is a good fit and it won't be for many in here

7  Capture The Call   looks loose in this field and back to Pedroza who knows this horse well and is awfully tough on front runners

5  Low Gear Power   nice forward move in last 2nd out after the layoff....sharp reassuring work since....good chance for another move in the right direction this afternoon

4  Way Too Much   very consistent sort was just claimed by Metz.......and Metz is very stout 1st time out after a claim

9  Best Verse   invader seems sharp and has a good chance to get a nice chase position with the light weight apprentice up...and Eswan Flores is having a good SA meeting

1  Dunscombe   15 of 32 in the win column on conventional dirt rated "fast".....and it's always sunny in S Cal.....dangerous high percentage trainer
