Santa Anita for Saturday 11 February 2012
[private]
Rather wild interesting day with our top pick only being the morning line favorite in 3 of the 10 races. And we have an 8 to 1 and a 20 to 1 as our top pick in 2 of our races. Best of luck!
race 1Â Â Â average clarity
5 Maui Mark  likes SA......likes 6F........solid layoff run in last and a fast drill since......seems poised to repeat same or better
4 Buyer's Remorse  like when Carava is out of jail with a claim and still steps a horse up....and today he is stepping up a couple of levels with this 5 year old who ran a solid race in last....gelding might be feeling really good
1 Slam Slew  recent work hints this one has held form....seemingly likes to chase and he can get that position here
race 2Â Â Â average clarity
2 Last Sting  decent filly versus a weak looking group of males so the 5 lbs less than her last race seems very significant here
4 Siberian Rush  GG invader seems to like a 1 1/16 quite a bit more than a mile.....so....1st ever at 1 1/8 miles might be a good thing
8 Warren's Kong  finally back to the sod where he is a better horse.....ran creditably versus much better in last 2 turf endeavors which were run last summer
1 A Little Hot Sauce  1 mile turf races fit but I am a bit leery of his ability to run as well 1/8 further
race 3Â Â Â average clarity
8 Bodemeister  powerful debut last chasing a fast pace in a quickly run 5 1/2 furlong MSW race....bullet work since and the King of Cal racing is doing the training....shot to go wire to wire in 1st ever around 2 turns
7 Stirred Up  another Baffert charge with an impressive debut closing very fast in late stretch in a 7F affair...bred to love two turns
3 Welter Weight  pounded at the windows in MSW debut and his supporters had to watch him run wide and get blocked and lose by 7.......million dollar horse is beautifully bred to get the distance
1 Just Tripping  good close from the rear into a lackluster pace in MSW debut which was run at 1 mile on the turf......should be nicely legged up for 1st run on the dirt....good post and has the distinct advantage of already coping with two turns
race 4Â Â Â average clarity
7 Raingear  big surprising run 2 back......his 1st ever race at 1 1/16 miles...toss out "off track" run in last......back to "fast" and owns a recent reassuring 4F workout
6 Elusive Schemes  toss out last....no shot whatsoever with a horrid trip......race 2 back is very strong and it is somewhat hidden by a bad trip....2 recent sharp drills....believe we will get the effort 2 races ago
5 El Merito  seemingly plenty of pace in this affair can set things up for this late runner who owns 4 straight poor trips
8 Maker  Vienna horse's keep out running their odds....this gelding has tactical speed and can rate from off of it giving his jock some options
race 5Â Â Â average clarity
4 Lovestealer  seems to have the greatest chance of getting a good position and a good trip in a race that is difficult to judge how it will unfold position wise...and she has been consistent
1 Willow Switch  no shot 2 back and then ran a solid 2nd with a wide trip in last....10 post that day was bad news.....gets the 1 post today
2 Conjure The Spirit  ran fine on the grass in a sprint debut after a bad start.....then ran a solid two turn race on the AW in 2nd lifetime start...then didn't seem to care for the "dirt"....so... seems somewhat proven on the sod and is definitely proven around 2 turns
7 Askra  showed a liking for the green stuff after a slow start in MSW debut last.....1st long but bred nicely to handle a route of ground
race 6Â Â Â average clarity
10 War Politics  on the right end of the learning curve.......big wide near miss in last was very impressive....barn and trainer are red hot as team lately
2 Mr. Padre  good speed here and gets 10 lbs off with the new apprentice aboard....shot to go wire to wire
3 Ron Burgundy  last looks like it was needed and now drops to the bottom
7 Cheezy Breezy  last was quite a bit better than appears in print.....trainer has been awakening somewhat
NOTE:  12 Visible Marq  has a shot if he draws in from the Also Eligibles
race 7Â Â Â below average clarity
4 Ten Devils  should be feeling really good after a nice layoff run in last and 2 solid drills since.....Talamo knows this colt well having the mount in all his lifetime starts
2 Confucius Junior  2 of 3 lifetime sprints on the AW are very solid races......bred to handle the sod.....owns decent speed in this spot and gets 5 lbs off with the hot appr. aboard....can be prominent from the get go if he takes to the green stuff
7 Romeo Royale  very very consistent sort short or long....but short seems better because he finishes well instead of often flattening out a little in the late stages
8 Cranky Jack  beat 2 decent animals 2 races back in a winning run down the hill.....blinkers on today to help focus early after a dull effort in last.....seems like a good thing in this race without a lot of early pace types
Long-shot Possibilities: 6 Oilisblackgold  has fired some strong races fresh in the past....good work tab and fresh today at a 15 to 1 morning line
race 8Â Â Â average clarity
10 There Is No Limit  been awhile since I had a top pick be 20 to 1 in the morning line.......hot trainer O'Neill sends out this mare that his won her last 2 races turf to dirt.....turf to dirt today and the late runner seemingly gets ample pace to flatter her late run
9 Pink Lollipops  impressive layoff win in last and an excellent work regiment since....speed type needs to avoid a suicidal speed duel as there appears to be plenty of heat in this affair
11 Lea The Punisher  Julio's waking up and he takes over this laid up mare that is working sharply......she has fired fresh in the past and her mid pack running style looks like a fit for this race
13 Hout Bay  another late runner hoping for the aforementioned hot pace
race 9Â Â Â above average clarity
4 Sanagas  most impressive long distance turf star ends up in the Miller barn.....he sure seems to have a handle on the gelding in the a.m. as she is training like her 1st start under control of her new boss will be a good one
8 Bourbon Bay  not much more to say then 5 for 6 at Santa Anita on the sod and 1 for 15 elsewhere on the lawn
6 The Usual Q. T.  layoff last wasn't bad......might try to get loose here and steal the race.......quite the horse at 3....needs to find that old form
2 Norvsky  very consistent sort but will need very best to carry 123 lbs for 1 1/4 miles....still.....not impossible
race 10Â Â Â average clarity
6 Father Pabst  race 2 back fits.....solid rider upgrade.....trainer is having a good meeting......drop from mdn40 to mdn20.....can be prominent from the get go and get a good trip
11 Candy Sweetheart  just claimed by the sharp Vann Belvoir....blinkers on and the drills are good....Rosario wants the mount back....a very good sign
9 Unusual Pleasure  been awhile since Sherman has had a low level mdn claiming 1ster train so well.....home-bred sure seems ready to roll......same connections have fired big in the past with a couple of 1st starters
7 Sky Fox  solid last and drops.....might be a bit fragile but very dangerous if still in relatively good health
