Santa Anita for Saturday 3 March 2012
[private]
Fabulous fields in most the races today. Just the way it should be on the day you run your big race of the meet for older horses. Sure is nice not to have a cheap maiden claimer as the nightcap for a change. Good luck to all!
race 1Â Â Â average clarity
6 Baraja De Oro  faced quite a bit better in last 2......owns significant early speed......Vienna is having a better SA meeting then his record indicates
1 Pacific Avenue  only 5 lifetime races and is now 5.......so why not drop down this gelding who has been a fragile sort
3 Jack Reacher  blinkers on woke up this gelding (at GG) who was on a downward spiral.....good sign he steps up and ships back to S Cal
2Â Run Candy Run
race 2Â Â Â above average clarity
3 Holy Candy  exits a fast heat in last with a very wide trip.......big big run.....so.....I sure like the 6 weeks between races to recover......drills suggest this colt will run another significant effort
2 Stirred Up  this one's barn mate crushed the field and this Baffert charge stilled earned a par like fig/effort for the level even though he was beaten by nine.....will need (and surely can) move forward to beat our top pick
6 Cat' Enough  on the improve with every start on the turf and now tries conventional dirt for the first time......bred to prefer grass racing but O'Neill is making all the right moves these days
5Â Unmarked Bills
race 3Â Â Â DECLARED NO CONTESTÂ Â Â MONEY REFUNDED
3 Muny  trip from you know where in last....good work series....small drop.....vintage Mike Mitchell......and he has been hot the last few days
4 Crossing The Line  plenty of speed in this affair will flatter this very consistent Sadler runner's late kick
2 Circle Drive  bit of a dirt tightener in last....sure like the step up in claiming off of impressive drills.......trainer is 8 for his last 30 stepping a horse up one level
5Â Mr. Bossy Pants
race 4 Â Â average clarity
6 Mile High Magic  bet hard in MSW debut last even for a Bob Baffert runner.........got caught wide close to a decent pace and still only got beat by a length.....impressive work tab since....should move forward and be formidable here
3 Maverick Gun  extremely well bred to be a quality sprinter.....and the drills our very strong....rather sure ready to roll in MSW debut
4 Eaton Hall   Baffert charge had a dull debut.......decent 2nd start........so..........expect even more this afternoon especially with 1st time Bejarano
2Â Kenichi
race 5Â Â Â below average clarity
7 Graeme Crackerjack  not much in last but Bonde is having a good SA meeting so I think we will see a rebound to his race 2 back which is quite good or Bonde would have dropped down some
10 American Blend  ran very big in last....but draws the same nasty 10 post which contributed to his wide trip in last....very stout if Rosario gives him a more clever ride
3 Strasbourg  well proven that he can run with time off....lot's of speed in this affair so Nakatani needs to avoid being too close to the pace if the pace is hot.....horse has won from off the pace
4 Oilisblackgold  solid tightener on the grass in last.......good history turf to dirt.....today's scenario
race 6   way below average clarity
NOTE:Â Â Races on the hill are very difficult when you have this many 1st timers. Usually not the cleanest of run races. Pick 6 nightmare to start off with this race.
5 Lake Maracaibo  15 to 1 1st timer seems ready......mom has tossed 4 winners from 4 starters one of which was a turf winner
9 Special Charm   best ever on the sod was lone sprint race which was run at 6F at Hollywood
4 Alluvial Gold  best grass pedigree in the race and decent works for this 1ster
8Â Vegas Babe
race 7Â Â Â average clarity
2 Da Ruler  all 3 lifetime races are powerful......laid up since June but training as if he is returning at full throttle
11 Hoorayforhollywood  3 of his 4 lifetime conventional dirt races are strong....his latest was the effort that was poor....but Baffert switched his training back to Hol instead of SA.....rebound can occur
7 Via Verde  3 wins and one 2nd in 5 races on conventional dirt....never sharper so Glatt smartly steps him up into an alw race.....finishes great at 6 1/2....might really appreciate 1st ever at 7F
8Â Sammy's A Runnin'
race 8Â Â Â average clarity
2 Cat Talk  training super for his new trainer......fresh sharp speed and Mike Smith up.....wire to wire shot here
10 Twin Six  tough post at 1 mile on the turf but has enough speed to clear.....can get a decent chase/press position behind our top pick
5 Slammer Time   toss out last.....might have hated the conventional dirt...proven on the turf......might get a nice mid pack position....Nakatani is riding awfully well on the sod
7 Smug   laid up 10 months but working like Drysdale has him ready to roll fresh
race 9Â Â Â average clarity
5 Eden's Moon  stellar 1st at a route of ground in latest.......trotted home down the stretch in the easiest of wins....so there should be plenty left in the tank for today
3 Willa B Awesome  2 wins and 2 2nd's in 4 conventional dirt races.......semi-soft paced wire in last....doubt much taken out of this filly.....same as above.....gas left in the tank for today
7 Reneesgotzip  done everything exceptionally right so far.......now needs to do it around two turns for the 1st time.....bred fine to get 1 mile
2 Charm The Maker  might have needed last or maybe it was just a poor effort.......like that Mac is working her on the grass.........can bounce back
race 10Â Â Â above average clarity
5 Jeranimo  loves firm turf mile races........how's 132:3 in his last and at SA and with 1 more lb.....best ability here if he brings his "A" game
1 Mr. Commons  very consistent sort steadily is becoming a turf monster....and gets 3 lbs off today
2 Jimmy Simms  training great for his new trainer......best work tab for a Asmussen horse the whole SA meet.......might be speed of the speed here and go all the way
3 Willkconker   never better.....deserves a shot at the big time
race 11Â Â Â average clarity
3 Ron The Great  Mott is a very reliable trainer when he ships a horse training sharply......as this one is at Pay.......a great place to condition your horse.....sure looks like the 1 1/4 miles will be to his liking
2 Ultimate Eagle  didn't think this stout colt would like the dirt in last and was I wrong.....last race fits and he gets 3 lbs. off for today
9 Setsuko   layoff alw win in last should have this quality gelding ready for his very best
4 Boxeur Des Rues  50 to 1 shot is bred to love running far and bred fine to handle conventional dirt.....big improvement in last (on the grass) is hidden by a very wide trip......red hot trainer....in light.......great works
8 Gladding   very ready fresh off of the bench....but.....I am a bit leery of him handling the distance at such a high level of racing....fits if he can
1 Uh Oh Bango  sharp but also must prove that 1 1/4 miles won't takes it's toll
