Santa Anita for Sunday 18 March 2012

Decent card today but I can't get too high about it being that it will most likely be an off track again. Plenty of sunshine in the forecast for next week.

Thank you for being such great customers. I never dreamed that the The Racing Digest customer base would have so many bright interesting folks. Not quite like the 4 degenerate gamblers on the now axed HBO show Luck. Talk about a show that only depicted the seedy side of racing.

race 1    average clarity

2  In High Regards   dangerous trainer with mc 1st starters and this 1ster is showing good speed and endurance in the a.m.

6  Two Parts  mc debut was decent and now Mandella drops to the bottom....showed fairly decent early speed in debut and that is a good commodity to have in these abbreviated sprints

1  Onebadboy   has handled an off track in the past......positive rider change to the no. one apprentice who is riding quite well

race 2     average clarity

6  Frenemy   logical looking drop for this Baffert charge out of MSW racing.....vet scr. 25 Feb but 2 6F works since suggest this colt is doing O.K.

2  Risky Reward   useful MSW debut on the grass in late Jan.......trainer is having a stellar meet.........especially when today's jock is up

1  V. C. Ali Mac   ran way too wide close to a very fast pace in last and of course tired.......shot to get loose here with a good lead jock up......often a dangerous thing in the slop

race 3    average clarity

NOTE:   SELECTIONS ARE FOR THE MAIN TRACK

9  Jonny's Choice   best set of works (considering the level of racing) in preparation for a race from Headly in quite some time.....1st at a route but bred well to get the distance

6  He's Very Rare   on the right end of the learning curve and now we get the meets leading rider up

5  Dylan Donnelly   improving sort and has shown he can handle a dirt mile when many in here have not

4  Indicator    hidden improve in last.......blocked quite a bit and sat too far off a pedestrian pace up front........dirt pedigree is rather good

IN CASE OF ANY SCRATCHES HERE ARE MY 5TH AND 6TH PICKS     NUMBER 10 AND NUMBER 2

race 4    average clarity

2  Coo Cachoo   showed very good early speed in his last two route races going long.......looks loose with Bejarano in control

6  Warning Song   stellar team of late in Rosario/Mitchell in support of this gelding.........two solid sprint races and a small drop in claiming price should have this runner primed to go a mile this afternoon

1  Dress Code   very consistent sort and is proven on off tracks.....decent shot to get a nice ground saving chase position

4  Belo Purse   simply put......4 for 5 on off tracks......0 for 12 on fast tracks

race 5    average clarity

NOTE:  SELECTIONS ARE FOR THE MAIN TRACK

2  Anna You're Up   powerful win/effort/fig in her last her 1st ever on the conventional dirt....and 5 lbs off today....same or of course better should be stout here

11  Big Tsimmis   figs/efforts fit....owns good early pace in this spot....and we get a positive rider switch to the meets top gun so far

9  Warren's City Art   stumbled rather badly in layoff last and still got up in time to win an abbreviated sprint affair of 5 furlongs....better trip and a race under her belt and she should be able to compete well at today's higher level

5  A. K. A. Xe   won like a good thing in mc debut....will need to show more today but the trainer is having a nice meet so enough improvement today to compete here is not impossible

NOTE:   NUMBER 12 AND NUMBER 13 HAVE A SHOT HERE IF THEY DRAW INTO THE FIELD

race 6   average clarity

3  Summers At Delmar   earned a solid improved number in a fast heat in his last.......retains Eswan Flores who is really riding well.....2 for 6 at today's distance.......2 for 20 at other distances

1  Certified Diamond   last sure looks like a gimme to drop and go go go......owns good early speed here and that is usually a plus on off tracks

5  Delux Bus   keeps dropping and keeps running well....can't drop any further.......win-less trainer could use a trip to the winners circle

2  Devil's Afleet   showed improvement in last....seemingly has only one other ES type to deal with and that horse has a much tougher post to break from in the 1 hole....loose + slop = dangerous

race 7    above average clarity

4  Gladding   no shot in last....dueled in a brutal pace......handled the mud decently at CD....looks loose here with Mike Smith in control of the race

7  Canonize   two straight solid sprint races at SA.......1st ever long but bred just fine to handle it if

5  Make Music For Me    arguably best ever was on an off track......legs/body might feel good coming off of turf affairs

2  Tweebster   hard trying sort seems to have forgotten how to win....but he is conditioned by one of the world's all time great trainers in Bob Baffert.....so......

race 8    above average clarity

8  Sarbonne   overdo drop out of MSW.....might have been some star runner's work partner..... that might be the reason it took Shirreffs so long to put this horse where he can win

3  Warren's Rail Bid   3 of 4 races run since the blinkers were added are solid.....has fired fresh in the past......1/2 year off here

2  Tough 'n Dangerous   1st timer has trained well enough to be dangerous in his debut into the wonderful world of thoroughbred racing

1  Del Mar Johnny   race lacks ES types......this 4 year old has some speed and might get a dangerous loos position in the slop

4  Mucho Bravo   piece of the pie only

5  On I Win   piece of the pie only
