Santa Anita for Sunday 21 October 2012

[private]

For pick 6 players today I believe the top pick in the 8th is a decent single and our top 2 picks in the 9th look like a decent cover of the final leg of the pick 6. Also, if the AE no. 13 Marcyjane gets in I think she can be singled in the 6th.

race 1    average clarity

3  Max Cooper   ran 2nd in his latest to a runner that stepped up a couple of claiming levels and won (as our top pick).........sharp work tab and 1st time Bejarano indicate the gelding has remained sharp

4  Courtside   speed of the speed in this spot and takes a significant and logical drop in class as he did 9 races back in May when he crushed the field

5  Vaundell   ran a better than looks layoff run on the 1st of Sept. where he dueled on a day the inside at Dmr was not the place to be.......off since but working like he is ready and gets a jock upgrade to the meetings top gun to date

race 2    slightly above average clarity

5  Boller Bomb   rather erratic sort who has difficulty getting clean trips......dropping out of MSW to claiming should help her get away with her antics......back to Maldonado who has gotten the most out of this youngster

4  Resisting Arrest   impressive forward move in 2nd lifetime start and now this filly gets 1st time Bejarano which has been a dangerous thing since Bejarano arrived on the S Cal racing scene from the Midwest

3  Lady Delany   seems to be running into shape in two non-claiming events.......drops today......... so.........primed and ready in 3rd lifetime start

6  Unusual Sensation   Sherman is weak with 1st timers and yet this filly displayed quite a bit of energy in her debut breaking about 8 lengths slow and running wide.....had about 11 lengths of trip trouble and got beat by 11........blinkers on to help focus.........and Sherman is much more dangerous with 2nd time starters

race 3    slightly above clarity

3  Comma To The Top   the 1 mile dirt affairs have been dominated by early speed at this meeting and that fits this Miller runner and to a tee who came oh so close to wiring the field in the 2011 SA Derby

4  Shaun Washington   1st ever on conventional dirt but is bred OK to handle it........connections will be hoping the 1 and the 5 horse will force the 3 into a substantial early pace

race 4    average clarity

1  Megastar  like his last winning start this consistent closer seemingly gets ample pace up front to flatter his strong late kick once again....shot at 3 straight wins

5  Sky Cape   nice record since Spawr claimed (4 1 3 0).........also like the fact that this 7 year old has learned to rate a bit.....off for over two months but does well with 6 to 10 weeks between starts

7  Green Secret   has two other speed types like himself to cope with but it sure is hard to ignore his (15 7 4 3) record at today's distance on the grass

6  Where's The Remote   fits well at the 32K level but will need the predicted strong pace to develop as he has been a little too late closing in 1 mile turf affairs

race 5    slightly below average clarity

5  Sweetrayofsunshine   nice win in decent time in a two turn conventional dirt 7 furlong sprint in latest......two turns and only a furlong more today......repeat of last with a decent trip and she should be the runner to overcome

6  Dynavixen   impressive work tab on the SA surface for this filly who has only race once in the last 4 months........only lifetime conventional dirt effort was rather strong

2  Cee's The Year   rather consistent sort who made a bold (too premature) move in her last at Fpx.......should be tough today with a more timely move by Maldonado

3  Itsaphun   last looks like an over her head turf tightener to tighten up and drop to a level that fits and go go go.........race 2 back is very strong and she handles "real" dirt just fine

race 6    way below average clarity unless the 13 horse gets in

(so here is my order of preference in the race)

13  AE    Marcyjane   powerful effort/fig down the hill in MSW.......like this filly the best by far if she draws into the field

1  Urania

11  Bwanadada

6  Point Cadet

5  Isra

7  Eula B.

2  Pure Bush

9  Poponip

12  AE  Wunderbar

10  Indy Love

4  Out For Revenge

race 7    slightly above average clarity

10  Imwiththeblonde    compromised by running on a dull rail in last at 3 to 5 at Dmr.........earned a powerful number in her race two back her MSW debut.....sharp drills at SA and breeding that says the "real" dirt will not be a problem.....and Sadler is awfully good with 2 year old fillies

9  Having Abig Middle   caught way too wide pressing the pace on an inside condition......did very well to beat 6 of 11 runners......impressive 6F gate work since.....should be in it from the get go

4  Lady Rosamond   as usual a Baffert 1st timer seemingly meant and ready for her MSW debut.....what a great great trainer

11  Heartless   that great great trainer is at it again here with another 1st timer that appears ready to roll

race 8    above average clarity

6  No Silent   extremely consistent Gary Mandella runner and he handles the majestic SA hill turf course just fine....should get a nice mid back position and ponce on the leaders on the turn or stretch

1  Starspangled Heat   terrific late runner down the SA hill but he might be compromised by a possible lack of pace in the race......but then again he should be sitting on his very best 2nd out after a layoff

4  Robie The Cat   laid up since April but seems to own the best early speed in the field......is working like he is meant and ready..... and he has a top notch hill jock in Joe Talamo who is at the peak of his game these days.....just ask Gomez and Bejarano

5  Caption Obvious   too flat in turf route races.....finally gets a shot at sprinting on the sod where he showed some success in Ireland at two.......nice wake-up and confidence builder for likable jockey Mario Gutierrez yesterday and it was on the turf where he has struggled even when he was red hot on the dirt last Spring

race 9    average clarity

14  Awkward Mondays   exits a fast heat 3 weeks ago at SA where getting beat by 6 1/2 was still a strong effort.....and two solid drills since.....sure seems to be on the upswing......and now gets a jock switch to the meets leading rider

8  Coranto   very dangerous here getting back to sprinting after 2 lackluster route races.......all three lifetime sprints are quite a bit better than appear in print.......new trainer gets Bejarano to ride

12  On Holy Ground   seems best at 6 1/2 & 7 furlongs and both lifetime races on conventional dirt are somewhat better than appear on paper

6  Star Of America   on the improve with every start and seems likely to keep the trend going with this being his 2nd out after a long layoff

9  Valen

4  Moonlit Meteor
