Santa Anita for Sunday 28 October 2012

[private]

The 2012 Breeders Cup is only 5 days away!

For those of you that have been customers with us for a few months or more, now or in the recent past, we are considering a betting pool where we will select 1 or 2 gimmick wagers and any money returned will go to purchasing additional time for The Racing Digest.  Can't return cash as that could lead to some legal problems. I still have details to work out so I don't know if the betting pool will happen even if we get a good response. Please shoot us an email or leave a message on our cell 847-217-7502 asap (no later than this Sunday) if you have any interest so I can see the interest level out there. Most likely investment options will be in $20 increments.  i.e.  $20   $40   $60    $80    $100  SO FAR WE HAVE ENOUGH PEOPLE INTERESTED (THANKS!) TO MAKE FOR A GOOD SIZED POOL BUT UNLESS I WORK SOME DETAILS OUT (ASAP) IT WILL NOT HAPPEN. BUT IT WILL OCCUR IF NOT NOW SOMETIME IN THE FUTURE. I WILL LET YOU KNOW NO LATER THAN MONDAY EVENING.

Good card today as you can see from the "clarity" ratings

race 1    slightly above average clarity

4  Blonde Fog   Baffert sure seems as if he wants this 1st timer fully ready at 1st asking.....last 5 of 6 works are from the gate and the last work is a best of 43 bullet drill

2  Fiftyshadesofhay   sprint race......sprint race.....improved work tab.......meant and well prepared by Baffert for his 1st going a route

1  Shand   big forward move in 2nd lifetime start......step up out of maiden claiming is a good sign this filly continues to do well......1st time Talamo who has won his last 2 of 3 mounts for Peter Eurton

race 2    slightly above average clarity

1  Octane   27 to 1 in layoff last says the race was a turf tightener for this Headley runner.......and significant work tab since.......all systems go 2nd out after the layoff and back on the dirt at SA where he ran big last April

4  Cyclometer  stout work tab and a stout history on the SA dirt track......another Headley runner seemingly ready to roll

3  So Brilliant   bad trip in last hides a solid return to the race wars......jock will be out to make amends with this Baffert runner

race 3    slightly above average clarity

6  Tiz Liberty   sure loves the SA dirt track and this is his last shot at running on it until late in December......decent shot to chase and ponce as he did winning his latest

5  Coluda   1 for 1 at a mile........looks loose on the lead here and it has been rather uncanny how speed has dominated the 1 mile dirt races

3  Achak   has run well in the past when returning to the main track off of turf races......that is the case today.......takes a significant drop score which seems logical as this gelding hasn't won since Aug of 2011

race 4    average clarity

5  Maybe Tuesday   the 1 1/8 mile distance is a good fit for this McCarthy runner and it might not be for some others in this field......very good history back in short rest.........16 days qualifies as short rest

3  Lamm   two improved efforts since Hendrick's claimed.......and the step up in class is a good signal that he has a good handle on what it takes to get the most out of this six year old gelding

7  Lumberyard Jack   similar to our top choice in that he fires when he runs off of short rest which is the case today........will be very stout here if he is up to his "A game"......good rider/trainer combo the last couple of months

8  Arraignment   seems to be on a gradual upswing since Ellis claimed last March both in final time figs and pace

race 5    slightly above average clarity

5  Miss Sweet Above   career race no. 1:  broke a length tardy and then ran on a dull inside.......did well to only get beat by 6 1/2......career race no. 2:  off slow and ran wide on an inside day.....did extremely well to only get beat by 4 3/4........will be very formidable if she has held form and gets the trip

1  Katy's Star   bet hard in mc debut last June and probably hurt herself in a poor performance.......claimed and laid off since and she is working sharply for her new trainer Eric Kruljac......Eric is good with extended layoffs and he is good 1st out after a claim.....rather sure this filly is ready to roll

4  Big Valley  wide trip in MSW debut in a fast heat.........horrendous trip in 2nd lifetime start in a another MSW affair......drop/better trip/ move forward and she can challenge our top 2

3  Magic Tiz   beat 7 horses with a wide trip in a maiden a 30K debut.....went off at 36 to 1.......that strongly suggests the effort was needed and more will occur today

race 6    average clarity

2  Ashley's Bambino   powerful effort/fig produced by this colt in his only race at 1 mile on the sod......and it was run turf sprint to turf route just like today

3  Jules Journey   definitely on the right end of the learning curve.....like the fact this gelding ran well from off the pace for the 1st time in his young life.......gives the rider options

6  Jolly Joseph   on the improve since the blinkers were taken off........1 mile looks like a good fit as he gets a little flat going 1 1/16 on the turf

1  Stoney Creek   last sure looked like a public work-out.......and now we get Talamo  to ride and the work regiment hints this price shot is fit and ready for his 1st ever on the sod which he has decent breeding for

race 7    slightly above average clarity

2  Glowing Spirit   both lifetime races on conventional dirt are quite strong......should be on or near the lead at a distance that has been friendly to speed the whole meet.....and a good speed jock is up

6  Maker Or Breaker   monster lifetime debut somewhat disguised by a bad trip......so so 2nd lifetime start.........give some extra time to regroup....and the works suggest rebound city for this Baffert youngster

1  Golden Production   broke her maiden nicely in latest..........the 1st time on she has gotten to run on conventional dirt......1st at a route of ground but bred well to get the distance and Ellis historically is strong in the 1st at a route category

race 8    average clarity

2  Ryehill Dancer   better than these if she comes back ready fresh off of the bench.....has run well in the past off of extended layoffs and Canani is good with runners coming off long layoffs

6  Polytechnicien   much needed race off of the long layoff and his 1st ever in the good old U S of A....and the works since support this as he sure is working better now

1  Red Sun   hello Mr. Bejarano.......5 wins and 1 close 2nd when Bejarano rides.......no wins for this gelding in 4 other races that he did not ride.....Bejarano is up today

race 9    average clarity

10  Harlington Night   decent mc debut in a sprint 2 back.......bombed at a route in next.....back to a sprint today....... and with a nice 3F gate (best of 8) work under his belt......and it was just 3 days ago.......sharp

2  Generally Ours   on the improve with every start both in final time and pace.....and retains Delgaldillo who sure has done extremely well on any live mounts he gets up on this meet

5  Bay Gambler   no shot to compete in maiden debut at Fpx because of a bad trip in only a 4F race......blinkers on to help focus.......dangerous sort

12  Majestic Patron   poor start in mc debut last and then showed some run in him.....blinkers on to help out his chances of breaking better.....solid recent work suggests the blinkers have helped....of course that is assuming he worked with them

8  Taylor's Journey

7  Flew Flicker
