Hollywood for Friday 16 November 2012

[private]

Yours truly has been rather satisfied with our selections for the first 5 days of Hollywood (hope you have been as well) but today was rather difficult to decipher. Just a word of caution - tomorrow (Saturday) sure seems like a  better race card.   Best of luck as always!

race 1    below average clarity

(all 5 starters have a shot in this small but highly competitive field)

2  Circa'sgoldengear   much better since switching to turf sprints.....nice history when today's rider Joe Talamo is aboard

1  Canuletmedowneasy   3 for 3 in grass races from 5 furlongs to 6 furlongs..........6 furlongs this afternoon

4  Ain't No Other   ultra consistent sort on any surface especially at 6 furlongs.......Hollendorfer is heating up......Bejarano smartly sticks around

race 2    average clarity

4  Arresting Officer   best works for a Gary Stute laid up runner in many a moon.......gelding easily has done his best running on the Hollywood synthetic

1  Mark Of A Warrior   8 wins and 4 seconds in 15 races at today's distance.....proven on the Hol Cushion track......jockey upgrade

5  Privilaged   lead type only exits a very stout key race with a decent 3rd at today's same claiming tag......claimed by Heap in the race and Heap sure has had vastly improved year

2  Cragmont   good history at Hollywood when the times are slow.....slow so far this Fall.....laid up since July but training as if he is meant and ready.......will need very best to win this and with a jock who is off to a cold start at the new meeting

race 3    slightly below average clarity

9  Democratic Sweep   on the improve in the p.m. and the a.m.........seems deserving of the significant step up in claiming.....trainer is good with shippers......Gryder knows N Cal runner well

1  Princess Suances   significant drop sure makes sense to me......hasn't won since 2010......that gets old especially for the owner

13  I Cee's A Tiger   N Cal invader has had a solid 2012.....all 6 races this year seemingly fit well here....and look who is aboard......young Joe Talamo

7  Single N Lovin It   obvious gimme in last to drop and go at 1/2 the price today.......nice rider switch as well from a cold jock to a hot one

Long-shot possibilities:   12  Sunshine High  if you  toss out the last two.......as this mare might have disliked the conventional dirt.......and go back to her AW races.........she fits

race 4    average clarity

8  Playful Humor   on the improved with every start....very strong grass effort in last moving into nasty fractions and still holding well for 3rd.....1st on the AW but sure is bred to handle it

3  Elbouissante   well touted 1/2 sister to the mighty Zenyatta.........training as if she is ready and well meant to visit the circle of joy in her MSW debut

4  Chestnut Moon   major forward move in last running better than par for the level........works since suggest she hasn't lost a step......same or better today.....jock sure could use a winner

2  Saturday Nite Ride   trained well for MSW debut like most Baffert 1sters but did not show much.....but it was over 100 degrees that day and many didn't handle the high heat that day......works since suggest she is more than ready and at about 45 degrees cooler

race 5    slightly below average clarity

4  Crown Over   solid move forward on the grass in last....might have been best ever on the green carpet........and he seems better on the AW......Talamo and his agent must think so as he sticks around for the ride

3  Bold Aggressor   sharp recent 5F drill and a switch to a much more successful rider in Bejarano hint that a rebound to this runner's late summer form can occur....and he fits if that happens

5  Hombre Hughes   best two lifetime races on the AW fit well here.......just claimed by a trainer who makes good use of his limited yearly starters

2  Bling Cha Bling   down down down the class ladder.......where he will end up few people know including me......flip a coin if healthy enough or not for today

race 6    average clarity

3  Kenichi   caught an extremely fast heat of MSW runners in only race which was last March......works suggest he is more than ready and he faces much easier here

6  Whipstock   another laid up runner like our top pick taking the ever significant drop out of MSW racing into maiden claiming.....new trainer in Marty Jones and the works are very strong for a Jones runner as he doesn't drill his horses very hard

12  Exultant   another dropper out of MSW racing........Sadler is very dangerous with these kind.......so last sure looks like a leg me up turf route gimme to be at full throttle today back in a sprint on the AW

2  Goodbye Charlie   seems to be on the rebound maybe approaching his good 2011 form.....sharp recent races and works support this notion.....trainer steps him up double the tag.....4 year old is feeling good

race 7    slightly above average clarity

6  Cat Meeting    just keeps getting better......and better......and better......and his recent work tab suggests the trend can continue for this Mullins runner......great year for Mullins with his turf stock

4  Our Boy Bejamin   impressive close from back in the pack in a pace-less affair in last......trainer Marty Jones seems to be heating things up a touch of late

1  Unusual Jazz   improved in last with a switch to T C Baze who remains up today.....2 for 3 on the Hol grass......2 for 9 on the grass elsewhere....should be sitting on a good effort

3  Bev N Bud   1st at a route on the sod but retains Talamo and owns decent speed in this spot enhancing his chances at getting a ground saving trip

race 8    average clarity

NOTE:  AE's  14, 15, and 16 have a shot in this race if any of them draw into the field

9  Sassy Brunette   exits a fast heat of MSW runners in a race that looks like a tune-up to drop and go in a mdn claimer this afternoon in her 2nd lifetime race

10  Deft Touch   35 to 1 in a MSW race has grass leg me up tune-up written all over it......should be full throttle today at the mdn30K level for her 2nd lifetime endeavor

8  Strange Luck   better than appears mc debut in last.....ran awfully green.....works since are much improved suggesting the filly has settled down some in the a.m......very dangerous potential this afternoon

2  Warren's Closer   plenty of endurance put into this Lewis 1st timer.......and Gryder is up who seems to be the trainers go to guy....trainer had same work pattern and used Gryder in a strong 2009 maiden claiming (mdn32K) 1st timer effort.......hmmm

12  Katy's Star

6  Swiss In Paris
