Santa Anita for Saturday 16 February 2013

[private]

Make sure you have Saturday's publication as I had to put both Sat. & Sun. up on Saturday because of a commitment on Sunday.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    slightly below average clarity

2  Sweetrayofsunshine   last two races average "par" for today's higher level suggesting Kitchingham made a good claim........trainer is good historically 1st out after a claim and he is 3 for 4 to start the meeting

7  Melanistic   another just snatched at the claiming box and appears capable of successfully stepping up in class multiple notches......filly sure took to route racing in her latest

6  Night Dance   nice wake up in latest 1st time ever on the SA main track..........1st ever at a route but bred extremely well to appreciate the two turns and added distance

4  Bonita Star

race 2    average clarity

7  Arraignment   2 of last 3 grass races are better than par for today's slightly lower level.......and one of those races was at SA at 1 1/8.....struggling jock has a shot at his 2nd win of the meet here

3  Dynamic Host   very dangerous trainer 2nd out after a claim and he is also very dangerous with older claiming grass horses

6  God Of War   seems like a good time for blinkers on as this race lacks speed and with the added focus that the blinkers on often provides this fellow might get loose and lonely and brave on the front end and never look back

1  Lamm

race 3    slightly above average clarity

5  Smil'n From Above   very solid two turn races (many of which were bad trips) fit solidly here at today's lower level........seems very formidable if her health has remained the same

4  Burton's Angel   prefers the conventional dirt and prefers route racing.....gets both today.....last fits fine.......race 5 back would be tough for her competition in here to overcome

8  Wrinkle Room   twice has responded with good efforts turf to AW.......so turf to "real dirt" seems like a plus if of course she handles her 1st ever in a conventional dirt affair

6  Sheskey

race 4    slightly above average clarity

6  Snow Fall   last 4 of 5 fast rated conventional dirt route races fit here....and her best ever was her last which was only her 2nd start for her new trainer Hollendorfer.....seems very ready to step up to a Grade 2 affair

2  Book Review   great job by Baffert (predictably) of improving this filly after he took her over from New York based Chad Brown........seems very tough in races 1 mile to 1 1/16 miles......1 1/16 here

5  Lady Of Fifty   seems better on the AW but still can be formidable with her very best on the conventional dirt.......impressive 6F work over at Hollywood says she is feeling good

race 5    average clarity

1  Midnight Lucky   powerful work tab for this 1ster even by Bob Baffert standards........not an easy post for a 1st timer but I believe this is a nice one........spell R E A D Y

2  Swimmin Insunshine   very strong debut and it is somewhat hidden by a brutal trip.......had about 8 lengths of trip trouble and only got beat by 5........Maldonado will be out to make amends

6  Elegant In Silk   Great Britain invader  ran some strong grass races last Fall.......off since but training as if she is meant and ready for Cassidy and company......and he is bred quite well to appreciate conventional dirt

5  My Sweet Addiction

race 6    average clarity

2  Miss Well Molded   horse has really responded to Mike Smith on her back......and her last two endeavors running long on the sod are strong for today's given level

4  Speed Mouse  GB invader sure was on the right end of the learning curve overseas.........nice work regiment for her new trainer Dean Greenman........draws Gomez.......fits well if she id ready off of the layoff

9  Candy Trophy   able to sit close to solid paces and still be competitive in the stretch drive.......cut back in distance today seems like a plus

6  Double Ante

race 7    average clarity

8  Del Mar Sunset   very impressive MSW debut for this Baffert charge.....caught a little wide close to a solid pace and rightfully tired especially considering it was at 7F........same distance today is a good fit........and jock might even have more horse for today

7  Cavair Dreams   exits a very fast MSW race where running a distant 3rd was a good effort considering it was his lifetime debut.......likely to have more horse today in 2nd lifetime start......bred well to appreciate and get the extra furlong

4  Okaad   might not have seen the best run from this Baffert runner in his debut because of the off track........race under his belt and 1st time "fast"......dangerous sort

2  Saint Prado

race 8    slightly below average clarity

4  Judy In Disguise   very dangerous GG invader has crushed her opponents in 3 of 5 lifetime starts two of which were on the sod in GB......nice reassuring drill since her last.....meets top gun accepts the mount

2  Heir Kitty   seems improved since the blinkers were taken off 3 races back........lone turf sprint was her MSW winning debut......in that effort not only did she win by 4 1/2 lengths but she did it under a snuggle old

8  Jubliant Girl   2 wins on the SA hill turf course in two lifetime starts..........continues to train like a happy healthy filly......no reason she can't be tough once again at today's slightly higher level

5  Rovering Patrol

9  Doinghardtimeagain

race 9    average clarity

5  Lady Katfish   on the right end of the learning curve..........seems lucky to escape being claimed.......good non-claiming spot here.......Bejarano and his agent wisely stick with the youngster

8  Spring Gal   very nice move forward in 2nd lifetime start (the go end of a gimme/go) and the drills since suggest she can show even more this afternoon

4  Run Captive Run   same scenario as our 2nd choice just slightly less impressive......but Pender runners have been firing on all cylinders for the most part all meeting

6  Boller Bomb

race 10    below average clarity

4  Lord Kitten       tepid top pick in this difficult race to decipher.........good chance this Armstrong runner will "move up" today in her 1st ever on the sod........excellent pedigree for it.......and we get a rider upgrade

2  Exchange Student   strong race last year at 2 in 3rd career start.....so 3rd out after a layoff (and a drop out of MSW racing) seems like a good thing for this Tom Proctor runner

9  Tebowing   25 to 1 in MSW debut suggests the race was needed and that more can be expected from this Mitchell runner this afternoon.......stout rider/trainer team.....and you best ride well for your father-in-law

10  Rolanda
