Santa Anita for Thursday 14 March 2013

[private]

Early bird sign-up for special Triple Crown publications (which will save you pennies shy of $30) is now available for a limited time only.

Decent race card to start a new week of racing at Santa Anita. Friday also looks fairly good.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

7  Adrenaline Shot   good early speed and good enough figs to be prominent from gate to wire with only 5 1/2 furlongs to hold together

6  Wild Terry  appears to be limited by being a "lead type only" but he also appears to have the best early speed in the affair unless one of the 2 1st timers have early gas.......wire to wire shot

4  Captain Camelot   Carava 1st timer seems to be training well enough to possibly be ready to compete for the circle of joy in this soft looking field........mom has tossed 2 winners from 2 starters

5  Shadow Hall

race 2    slightly above average clarity

7  Door's Open    first timer consistently works well and the works are tightly spaced.......rather sure this Cerin 1ster is all wound up and ready to roll

4  Wave Catching   very similar to our top selection this Collins 1ster also owns tightly spaced solid drills........trainer has done well over the past year with his limited starters

6  Warren's Tyler S.   not much in latest but his effort two races back is a par like effort if you adjust for the 7 lengths of trouble he encountered at the start of the race......same energy/effort with a good trip might do the trick here

8  Single Launch

race 3    average clarity

2  Thermal Normal    one of Kasparoff's best stats is 2nd out after layoffs......that is the case here for this filly that should be on or just off the lead in an affair void of much early speed......believe she will be formidable if she moves forward and might still have a shot if she doesn't

1  Mia Isabel   O'Neill runner is 3 for 7 at 1 mile on the sod and 0 for 4 at other grass distances.......1 mile today with a good post and the meets top gun (to date) aboard

6  Glittel   on the improve of late and it sure seems like a positive sign that Armstrong moves this 4 year old filly up in claiming.......and retains Stevens who sure looks stellar in most of his rides on the green carpet

3  Love Tale

race 4    slightly below average clarity

2  Iconic Spirit   both lifetime "fast track" races fit well for  today's level.......and her 1st ever at a route of ground wasn't bad and it was run on an off track which might not be her cup of tea........solid work series hints the 7 weeks off has done her some good

8  Black Witch   toss out last as this Baffert charge appeared to dislike the off going.......previous race which was run at today's 1 mile distance was decent......might need a small move forward to take this race and might get it as this filly drilled nicely 3 times in a span of 11 days.......that hints she's doing well and wound up like a top

1  Parc Monceau   Hall of Fame trainer Neil Drysdale shows signs of waking up out of the doldrums.......so with that in mind my guess is this fillies turf sprint MSW debut was nothing more than tightener for today's route on the dirt which she is well bred to handle

5  Elegant In Silk

race 5    average clarity

4  Glowing Spirit    runs well with significant time off between starts and 73 days off sure qualifies for that........trainer A. C. Avilia is heating up........work regiment is very impressive.......and this mare owns early speed in a race that lacks it

2  Van Brit   an ultra impressive 9 for 17 at today's distance on the grass......but.......fell way off in latest and was claimed.....new trainer Belvoir will need to turn her around with only 4 weeks off......very solid here if he does

8  Lilly' Perfect   lifetime best was the last time this mare ran 1 mile on the grass way back in April of 2012........might be up to the task 3rd out after a long layoff and dropping slightly

7  English Puddin

race 6    slightly above average clarity

5  Courtside   fresh speed is dangerous speed and this Sadler runner sure showed that in his latest which was run off of 77 days off and a step up of 5K in claiming.......steps up another 5K today and runs off of 67 days rest......good preparatory drills and appears to have the best early gas......all systems go

1  Luckarack   exits a very solid alw field where he had about 4 lengths of trip trouble and only was beaten 4 3/4 for the win........facing softer here.......6 for 13 on the conventional dirt and seems at very best running at today's 6F distance

4  Gnarly Dude   5 year old gelding was on a roll and then fell off form in last......Mulhall smartly gives him some time off to regroup.......and his a.m. work suggests the break has refreshed his batteries and he is ready for a rebound

8  Close to the Bridge

race 7    average clarity

3  Best Present Ever   last was a par like effort down the hill and there is nothing wrong with par..........but this fillies previous run down the hill which was run 4 races back is very strong and would be very difficult to overcome...........solid consistency down the SA hill (4 1 3 0)

8  Esentepe   Grade 3 winner invades from GB under the tutelage of Jerry Hollendorfer with a work regiment that suggest's she is ready fresh off of a 1/2 year hiatus from racing.....fits extremely well here if she is

1  Creditcardroulette    filly has a sprint figures that fit fine but she is a deep closer in a field that seemingly sets for those close up.......but if there is more early speed in this race than anticipated she can come flying with a stout late running turf jock in Garrett Gomez aboard

7  Schiaparelli

race 8    average clarity

2  Unmarked Bills   nice rebound in last........broke poorly and still ran a close 2nd with a strong stretch run.......significant jock upgrade and a red hot trainer in Richard Mandella

1  Deception Free   flatten out to run 2nd in last two races which were run at 7F and 6 1/2F......cut back to 6F should help significantly if this gelding can manage to fire a third straight solid effort in a row

11  Shot of Chaya   Pender 1st timer sure appears to be training up to snuff to be ready for his debut into to the wonderful world of thoroughbred racing........Pedroza/Pender (rider/trainer) combo has been a good one over the last 2 months or so

9  Teton County

5  Waren's Bugler

10  Green Team
