Santa Anita for Friday 22 March 2013

[private]

Discounted full card selections for Kentucky Derby day, Preakness Day, and Belmont Day all three of which usually have 13 races has been extended to March 24th. That breaks down to costing approximately $1.60 per race.

Average card at best today but I am happy to let you know that both Saturday and Sunday look good to yours truly.

Best of luck as always!.

race 1    slightly below average clarity

3  Hasty Tend   solid wake up in last......blinkers on for today and his last work hints this gelding has responded well to the equipment change assuming he worked with them on.......2 for 3 at today's 1 1/16 mile distance

1  Bay Rush   six year old gelding seemingly has run over his head for too long a time.......not today.......to the bottom rung of the claiming ladder at SA.....fits well today if still in relatively decent health

5  Buds Pal   best early gas in this affair.....shot to wire if Pedroza lulls them to sleep with a soft pace as I doubt this sprinter will get a route with even an average set of 1 1/16 fractions

race 2    average clarity

4  Phantom Lover   all 3 lifetime route races run on the main track fit well here.........off 8 weeks but his work regiment suggests this 5 year old is ready to roll

3  Blueskiesnrainbows   repeat of latest would take this.....but.......it was a very big effort so much so that it might have knocked him out somewhat........but of course......if it didn't he likely will repeat

2  Royal F J    has run decent in 2 of 3 lifetime conventional dirt races at 1 mile.......very sharp recent drills......horse often out runs his odds

race 3    average clarity

6  Candy's Jewel   last 6 races are better than par for today's mc 50K level and 2 of the 6 are much better than par when adjusted for trip trouble and any pace......rather unlucky for connections that this gelding has yet to graduate

3  Incentivize   work regiment (at least for M Jones who doesn't push his stock very hard) seems to suggest that this laid up runner is ready fresh off of the bench and might be better as a 1st time gelding......repeat of his only grass mile race which was run last summer fits fine here

10  Sports Report     on the improve with every start.....claimed in his latest and his new trainer P Miller puts him in a grass race which he is bred to handle.........with that said he will still need a clever ride from a difficult post at 1 mile on the turf

9  Indian Gods

race 4    below average clarity

2  Spoiledandentitled   so so works prior to a lackluster MSW debut which was on the turf.........and now the works since the race are improved.........suggests to me the race was nothing more than a turf tightener for today's dirt race........not to mention that Julio Canani is quite a bit better with 2nd timers

3  Elle Cee Dee   decent MSW debut albeit versus softer at Tup.......nice drills since on the SA surface........good rider trainer team in Espinoza/Belvoir.......invader seemingly catches a weaker than normal group of filly Cal bred maidens

7  Girl On The Lam    good forward move in 2nd lifetime start and the works since suggest a logical move in the right direction is likely to occur once again this afternoon

1  Para Angel

race 5     slightly below average clarity

3  Cavalla    the last time this runner had a top echelon jock up he won by 5 1/4 lengths.......not much since but big drills seemingly out of nowhere and Gomez is aboard today who by the way can make the assigned 113 lbs......1st on the grass with an adequate pedigree for it

4  Born Lucky   needed her last and seems likely to move forward 2nd out after the layoff especially switching to the grass where she has never missed the board in 4 grass races at 1 mile or 1 1/16 miles

2  Warren's Gussie    1st long........1st turf......OK pedigree for both.......Jorge Guitterrez is having his best S Cal.  race meeting that I can ever remember........almost everything he puts on the track is dangerous

5  Fluxx

Long-shot possibilities:   1  Sassy Brunette   pulled up in last but looked OK to me walking off.........3 year old filly finally gets to run on the turf which she is extremely well bred for........mom has tossed 5 grass runners and dad is off to a good start as a turf sire

race 6    slightly below average clarity

2  Et Tu Walker   after an uneventful 2012 this O'Neill runner has had a solid 2013 and he is coming off possibly his best ever especially early pace wise.......reassuring good 3F work-out since......very solid here if repeats last and gets a good trip

4  Leothelion   has fired fresh 3X in the past.........it always seems logical to drop off of prolonged layoffs......16 months away qualifies as a prolonged layoff

1  Idontrollonshabbos    efforts/figures fit well here but this 1st after the claim Carava runner needs to overcome a tendency to flatten out in the stretch in races past 6F.......jockey upgrade back to Talamo who owns the only 2 wins on the gelding can help

9  Chasing The Heat

race 7    above average clarity

2  Saint Loup    ran 2nd (albeit by 5 lengths) in latest and the winner came back to crush foes in a Grade 2 that was run last Sat.........blinkers on / good drills since........just what you want to see........bred to greatly appreciate the marathon distance 1 1/2 miles

7  Lime Rickey    easily seems at best in marathon races......and likely to move forward 2nd out after the layoff today........good sign Mr. Bejarano sticks with the Spawr 7 year old

3  Rintoo   on the right end of the learning curve and now we get a rider upgrade........pedigree for a marathon is not too hot but the way he handled 1 1/4 hints the 1 1/2 for today might fit

1  Toruk Makto

race 8    slightly above average clarity

9  Blazen All Star   woke up a ton (47 to 1 at today's same level) in latest which was  her 1st ever around two turns.......owns enough tactical speed to clear quite a few slow early types with posts that are inside of his post

8  Medusalina    seems like a good spot for a sprinter stretching out for the 1st time to two turns because he sure looks loose and loose with a tough speed jock up in the name of Edwin Maldonado........low percentage trainer but not when he sends out a runner 1st time at a route

6  Pay The Cutie   on the right end of the learning curve.........likes to come from off of it since the blinkers were removed two races back........top two picks should be on or near the front so it seems like a good thing that our 3rd choice is a deep closer

10  La Pomme D'amour

4  John's War

7  Alissa G
