Santa Anita for Sunday 24 March 2013

[private]

Last day to take advantage of discounted full card selections for Kentucky Derby Day, Preakness Day, and Belmont Day all three of which usually have 13 races. That breaks down to costing approximately $1.60 per race.

Good card to finish the week. Not one race rated below average clarity. Be back with you on Thursday.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    slightly above average clarity

1  King Maya   both lifetime conventional dirt races are very strong for the maiden 30K level.....off since September but is working as if all systems are go.....and this colt showed he can run well fresh in his maiden debut

2  Congregationalist   basically this colt's whole career fits fine in today's spot.......Cerin (who also trains our top pick) seems likely to visit the winners circle

6  Green Dolphin   laid up since November but has run well fresh in the past and seemingly never trained better.....owns good early speed........should be in the hunt from the get

3  Porchetto

race 2    slightly above average clarity

3  Samerian   very poor trip in latest (catalyst for the bad trip was starting from a very difficult 11 post) hides a nice move forward in last.......good works since.....much better post.......2nd out after a layoff.......bred well to get the 1 1/8th.......come on Kayla (a new mom) baby needs a new pair of shoes

8  Just Fishin   on the improve with every start......would have been top pick if it wasn't for the extra 1/8th of a mile being somewhat of a ? mark

4  Dynamize   touch shy when it comes to numbers but no one in this field of eight is better bred to get the 1 1/8th on the grass than this Puype runner

6  Copper Bay

race 3    average clarity

1  Honour The Deputy   logical overdo drop for this 6 year old who hasn't seen the winners circle for a very long time......should get a good chase position behind our 3rd pick in an affair that seems set for those close to the pace

2  National   trainer is 6 for 9 at the meeting.....horse is 5 for 10 lifetime on conventional dirt.......and 3 for 3 at SA......that'll do

6  Arcodoro   claimed for 10k 4 races back.....Carava and company got a bit too ambitious running this 7 year old for 25K and higher......back to reality today in for 12,500.......shot to go wire to wire here in a race lacking speed types

race 4    average clarity

6 Kuro   nice layoff run in last.......good shot to take this affair if this Bonde runner manages a forward move......was rather cranked up for last so it seems like a 50/50 proposition that he will move forward

7  Warren's Dr. Boo    3 for 3 on convention dirt and a decent spot for this speed horse......does lose unavailable stout speed jock Maldonado who is not riding at SA today or would have been top pick

1  Chinese Praise   4 for 10 at 6F.......0 for 12 at other distances.......3rd race in 15 days......yikes......might be a bit too much but fits just fine if he can handle his grueling intermary

3  Danger Ranger

race 5    average clarity

4  Marinda   won for fun in only race down the SA hill turf course.........trainer is firing on all cylinders.......only mount of the day for Gomez seems like a significant plus

9  Mum's Truckee   big off track fig/effort in last........no pace to close into thus not much of a chance to produce a fig in race 2 back on the grass......big hidden fig 3 back on the grass.......big fig at GG 4 races back at GG.......would have been top pick but Gomez gets off to ride number 4

3  Madre Luna   last two efforts both down the SA hill are par like adjusted for trouble figs and the race 2 back is hidden by a brutal trip......most likely will need a clean trip to win this

5  Lemon Hero

Long-shot possibilities:   2  Lovestealer    owns a couple of grass figs/efforts that fit at today's level.......laid up for 10 Months but sure is working well enough to be ready fresh......Gryder has won 2 for his last 7 for Sherman

race 6    average clarity

8  Ten Tequilas   didn't take to the off track in last......toss it out.......maiden debut 2 back is solid and it is somewhat disguised by a bad trip.....broke 4 slow and ran wide.....did well to only get beat by 7 lengths

10  Tizaplayer   rather sure this Doug O'Neill 1st timer is meant and ready to roll in his maiden debut....last two works are rather stout for a maiden 30K 1ster

3  Feathers Inthe Sky   broke slowly.......clipped heels.....and then ran wide........did well to beat 1/2 the field in his MSW debut........better trip likely today.......and drops into maiden claiming........can be tough here if manages the same energy/effort as he displayed in his maiden debut

5  Primed And Ready

race 7    slightly above average clarity

6  Tiz Flirtatious   toss out fig in last.....no shot to produce a decent fig as the fractions set were way too slow to make for a good final time......two previous races were very solid efforts/figs......very reliable consistent sort

1  Lady Of Shamrock   laid up filly appears to be at her best at today's 1 1/8th mile turf distance.....very solid preparatory work regiment appears to have her ready fresh today.......only mount for Smith today.......a plus.....as in he would take the day off if he didn't believe this filly a a legitimate shot to win in this Grade 2

3  Quiet Oasis   done little wrong since Cecil took over the training duties.....lifetime best was her lone race ever at today's 1 1/8th mile distance

race 8   average clarity

2  Real Conundrum   not much in last......what we want here is this colt's race 2 back which is quite strong and disguised by a very poor trip......8L of trouble (checked 4 on run-up & wide 4)

4  Master Chief   toss out last where he was placed over his head and on a surface he's not too crazy about......back where fits today both surface wise and level wise

6  Island Sunset    inconsistent sort but sure fires significant efforts now and then......as good a shot as anyone in the field if he brings his "A game" this afternoon

1  Obsess

race 9    slightly above average clarity

6  Floatthrutheair   good trainer thru the years has struggled but she appears to waking up out of the doldrums........1st timer is training like a good one.......bred well for the sod and Walsh has won hit the board with 3 of her last 5 turf 1st timers one of which won

9  Too Many Bucks   pedigree somewhat suggests a turf sprint would be preferable to a turf route so the cut back to 6 1/2F from 1 mile seems like a positive for this running into shaped Drysdale grass runner

10  Atta Girl Alma   on the improve with every race and as good a shot as our top two picks if this filly manages another forward move this afternoon

8  Trickle Again

3  Lakeside Blonde

5  Frannie'sspirittoo
