Santa Anita for Sunday 14 April 2013

[private]

Very lackluster cards this weekend at Santa Anita. Hoping for better for the closing weekend coming up.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

1  Flower Power    when a lead type only learns how to rate just off the pace their future is usually bright and that appears to be the case here with this Jeff Bonde runner

4  Toledo Eddie    Idaho bred (yes, Idaho bred) four year old has done little wrong on conventional dirt with 4 wins in 5 starts on the old fashioned surface.......also he appears to be slightly improved since the blinkers were taken off two races back

6  Domonation   laid up runner who was racing for about three times the claiming price last year at this time sure is working as if the time off has done him some good........trainer Rafael Deleon is rather reliable when his horses show some prowess in the a.m.

race 2    average clarity

10  So She Dances   good effort two back down the majestic Santa Anita hill turf course......then won for fun on the off track despite running wide on a day the inside was somewhat biased......seems to in good form for today's race back on the hill

2  Distant Image   improved race first out after the claim by John Sadler......good works since.......same or possible better out of this filly this afternoon

3  Tribalicious   impressive effort in latest considering it was run of off an extended hiatus from the track.......good a.m. work since......poised for better this afternoon

5  Promiscuossuances

race 3    average clarity

4  Maker Or Breaker   filly appears to appreciate ample time off between starts and Bob Baffert shows patience and gives it to her......and you know Bob will have this filly primed for a top effort as it will most likely be a few months until she can race once again

2  Candrea   dangerous rebound candidate for Baffert here......working night and day better........rather sure this filly makes a significant rebound in form this afternoon

5  Egg Drop   most likely will go after the front end once again here......sure worked in latest with this Mitchell charge winning wire to wire in her 1st ever running a route of ground

race 4    average clarity

4  Morganouska   vastly improved in last......sure looked good in the stretch drive.......claimed in his last and Hess moves her up 3 claiming levels indicating to yours truly that his new conditioner likes what he sees......and it seems like a good sign Bejarano wants the mount back

7  Visigodo    done little wrong in his 3 lifetime route races run on the main track.......off pace runner pours it on late and Garrett Gomez sure does well with route runners that like to run from far back

1  Scorpion Time    claimed by the red hot Adam Kitchingman in last........that alone makes him dangerous......but I am a touch leery of the rather soft work  regiment especially considering the 7 weeks off since his last

3  Beer Meister

race 5    slightly below average clarity

6  Classic Candy    broke a touch slow and ran way too wide in last which was this fillies 1st ever on the grass......did well to only be 5 1/4 lengths behind the winner at the wire........jockey will be out to make amends today

4  Frannie'sspirittoo    how many lengths of rider upgrade do you give the switch from Kubinova to Gomez.....I'd say about 1/2 dozen......that makes this Canani runner a fit here

2  Sidepocket Run   filly is on the right end of the learning curve and might be poised for another move in the right direction because the blinkers are being put on for today and her recent works suggest the equipment change has helped

3  Warren's Veneda

race 6    average clarity

5  Goodtobewild   good maiden claiming debut in only a 5F affair.......and the way she was closing in an abbreviated sprint of only 5 panels says the extra 1/2 furlong for today sure looks like a plus for her 2nd lifetime endeavor

8  Scat Patty     The Three Little Bears story here......1st out on the grass....didn't care for it......2nd out on the off track.....didn't care for it.......1st run on a fast track.....fit just fine......looks poised for a strong effort today if we keep the big bad wolf away which of course is a bad trip

7  Play Misty For Us   sprint debut 2 races back run way back in December of 2011 fits well here.......drills hint that this filly is doing well and might fire a big race fresh as she did in her debut

1  Beautiful Flag

race 7    average clarity

6  Sweep Swap   highly competitive in all 5 lifetime races on the grass.......very powerful run down the SA hill grass course in latest.....good chance to get a good chase position here with 1st time Bejarano in the saddle.....and 1st time Bejarano is a dangerous thing

7  Ivanho    sure liked the SA hill in last which was his 1st ever on it.....stout deep closer/Gomez........that'll do

3  Basmati    showed very impressive early foot in his last in his 1st ever on the sod......looks loose here and this O'Neill runner has a good history when he is loose on the lead

2  Carbonite

race 8    average clarity

6  Rousing Sermon   nice 7F tune-up in last run off of a long layoff......all set today for a route of ground which will put this Hollendorfer colt in the winners circle if he brings anything close to his "A game"

1  Zackn'mat    consistent sort......and.....Mullins is often at his best with a horse 3rd out after a layoff with is the scenario here......also the work regiment for this colt is the most impressive work series from Mullins in quite some time

8  Soul Candy     laid up since July.....returns with a new trainer in D'Amato who has his new runner training impressively........gelding owns some impressive back numbers/efforts....seems dangerous and dangerous at a price

3  Call Me Kelly

race 9    average clarity

8  Storm Castle    impressive green running MSW debut which was run down the SA hill.....in my notes for the race I wrote that the horse might be a candidate to be gelded......and he has been.....have to like that

1  Change Of Plan   nowheresville in 2 year old maiden debut run last October.....a.m. works suggests this gelding is returning a vastly different improved runner as a 3 year old

3  Benedict Audrey   cut back in distance and the drop out of MSW racing both should enhance the chances for this Guillot runner

11  Buckleberry Grey

5  Real Deal Appeal

7  Horizontalyspeakin
