Santa Anita for Thursday 3 October 2013

[private]

Decent card at majestic Santa Anita for today and at first glance tomorrow's looks quite good.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    slightly below average clarity

7  Big Macher   had a trip from you know where in last.......rather stunning that he only was beat by 4 lengths at the wire.......owns decent early speed if breaks cleanly out of the gate......sharp drills

2  Second Proposal   GG invader is on the improve with every start both in pace and final time..........works since his latest are solid........Kruljac is awfully good dropping from MSW to maiden claiming

1  Market Portfolio   seems like a very good sign that this Hollendorfer runner steps up in maiden claiming for the 2nd straight time......would have rated higher if I wasn't a touch leery that his pedigree might suite AW surfaces better than conventional dirt surfaces

8  Hi Mijo

Long-shot consideration:   5  Anytime   laid up Owens runner finally drops out of MSW racing after five attempts to break his maiden.......returns off of a 10 month layoff as a 1st time gelding and sure is training as if the "ultimate equipment change" has done him some good

race 2    average clarity

9  My Lucky Rose   owns significant early gas especially taking into account the level of racing.......good recent drill and drops a level.......Baffert means business here........should be a factor from the get go

10  Frandontjudge   two lifetime races.....two bad trips.........switch to Bejarano who is starting to heats things up with O'Neill.......solid shot here if he gives this 3rd time starter a decent ride

8  Shoot Me Another   24 to 1 in MSW debut and the fact that the trainer is much better with 2nd time starters (and he is good dropping from MSW to mc racing) hints the debut was the gimme and a full throttle go will occur this afternoon

11  Violate

race 3    average clarity

1  Camp Victory   3 for 5 at the distance on the sod.......has been preforming well versus better.......blinkers on and sharp drills.....Mitchell sure seems to mean business risking him for a tag of 50K

5  Maybe Tuesday   major awakening in latest 1st out after the claim by Mullins.......the race was on the AW and this gelding seems best on the sod.....so......top effort has a shot of occurring today switching back to his preferred surface

6  Mega Heat   rather simple here.....last on the Dmr AW (a surface he has loved in the past) was very poor.......needs a significant rebound.....fits well if he produces one

3  Ready For More

race 4    average clarity

4  Majestic Moment   deep closer likes the SA conventional dirt......Sadler charge takes a significant drop once again but this time off of a layoff which suggests he has had time to recover (somewhat) over what has been ailing him......decent preparatory drills

1  Tamarack Smarty   last two races which were run on the conventional dirt at Fairplex fit fine......1 for 1 at today's distance

8  Tuckers Point   well placed to win.....would have rated higher if it wasn't for this runner's tendency to run wide

5  Warrens Wild Thing

race 5    slightly above average clarity

2  Scary Fast   solid improvement in latest at Bsr in her 1st race ever on conventional dirt.......sharp reassuring work at SA since........well placed to score

5  Clearly Confused   last sure seems like a gimme running over her head to dirty things up a bit and drop and go this afternoon in her 2nd start for her new trainer

7  Coco De Carchy   good race turf to main track back in June.....and this filly showed she disliked the sod.....so........grass race in last sets things up nicely turf to dirt today.......and......dropping

1  Mezzanotte

race 6    slightly above average clarity

3  Heat Trap   disliked two turns on the sod in last.......toss it out.....back to turf sprinting where she is stout.....very strong grass effort/fig in her last turf sprint back in mid June.....good work tab......all systems go

2  Woodlandsway   not so hot in her two efforts in the USA back in late Spring in turf routes.......was a decent sprinter in GB in 2012........so ought to appreciate a return to a grass sprint today especially off of such an impressive series of preparatory drills

4  Spring Breeze   might be a touch inferior fig/effort wise but the race lacks speed and she has some.........and she has a very strong speed jock aboard in Maldonado

5  Llandudno

race 7    slightly above average clarity

1  Blue Tone   all three races run at today's 1 1/6th distance are stout here.......likes to stalk the leaders and should be able in this spot

6  American Act   seems to be on the rebound.......owns some solid back numbers and might be capable of reproducing one of them today with one more move in the right direction.....should be in the hunt from the get go and with the amazing rejuvenated Gary Stevens up

3  Rousing Sermon   Jerry Hollendorfer runner appreciates the conventional dirt at SA......best of the late runners should come flying late here.....and with minimal traffic with this being a small field of 6

race 8    slightly below average clarity

6  Flying Open   sure trains better than anyone in this lackluster bunch......bet hard on the drop into maiden claiming in last and fell after clipping heels......she was my (disappointing) top selection in the race.....top billing again as she sure is bred to handle conventional dirt has works great on it

2  Candy Anniversary   nothing special showing in MSW debut but drops and catches a soft field......and has the team of Sadler/Bejarano at the controls

11  Runaway Que   rather weak breeding for this Mullin's 1st timer but sure has trained aggressively and well enough to possibly be very competitive in this aforementioned soft looking field

4  Chatter Up

10  Song Of The Times

8  Delta Dude
