Santa Anita for Saturday 5 October 2013

[private]

Average card at best today

Best of luck as always!

race 1    slightly above average clarity

7  Heyyoucan   on the improve and sure responded to the blinkers off in last......I see few reasons the positive trend doesn't continue unless this gelding doesn't like his 1st ever run on conventional dirt

5  Luca   won quite easily in 2nd lifetime start over at Bsr.......could have also won his debut 2 back if it wasn't for a bad trip breaking bad and running wide

4  Tosheen   decent win at Bsr in last his 2nd lifetime start......3 reassuring drills since......Miller trains our top choice but he also has some shot at the circle of joy with this fellow as well

1  Battle Jet

race 2    average clarity

5  Customer Base  3 of her last 4 figs/efforts fit well versus today's competitors and her last effort is somewhat hidden.....stout combo of Proctor/Stevens at the controls

7  Magic Union   lifetime best in latest run on the AW at Dmr and it was 1st time under the guidance of John Sadler......excellent works since.....1st on the sod but bred just fine to handle the green carpet

1  Miss Pippa   race lacks speed and this filly has some and Mike Smith sure likes to try and wire with these kind.......and the filly sure has a good history on or near the lead

3  Charm The Maker

race 3    average clarity

2  Trouble X Two   so so in both lifetime AW sprints......but........two turn route race 2 back sure fits figure wise and this runner might own a pedigree that is more suited for the conventional dirt

3  Spirited Touch   LTO (lead type only) might get what he seemingly needs in this spot.......he is a major factor if he gets the front end with a reasonable set of splits

10  Tiz Futurity   2 of his last 3 races (both routes) fit decently here......tough call as to what we get today as the conditioner has had trouble getting a horse to fire back to back good efforts in 2013

1  Tama County

race 4    average clarity

5  Obviously    owns 6 wins in 7 races at one mile on the grass and 5 of those wins were in Grade 1's or Grade 2's.......wire to wire type only has one other early speed type to contend with

9  Polytechnicien   right behind Vagabond Shoes in France in July of 2011........last sure looks like nothing more than a tune-up......terrific 1 mile turf work since.......and one dangerous trainer in Richard Mandella and especially so of late

6  He Be Fire N Ice   very consistent grass cutter almost beat our top pick in last.....might get him this time if he can overcome a negative weight shift of 3 lbs

4  No Jet Lag

race 5    slightly below average clarity

8  Forest Boy   only lifetime sprint on conventional dirt and at SA stands out as much the best here......laid up since mid Jan. but training as if he is meant and ready to roll fresh off of the bench for Sadler

2  Magic Daddy   trained great but only ran so so for Baffert......continues to train like a good one......deserves another shot in his 2nd lifetime start

7  Drover Crazy   on the right end of the learning curve......would have rated higher if I wasn't concerned about this gelding flattening out some trying to get 1/2 furlong more today

9  Well Lawyered

race 6    slightly below average clarity

10  A Toast To You   mid pack runner seemingly gets ample pace up front to flatter his late run......drop seems logical as he has been fairly close at the wire but he hasn't exactly been breaking the bank

8  Depreciable   2 for 3 on the grass at Santa Anita and 1 for 1 down the hill.......shows some solid grass works with the dogs up in preparation for today's affair

7  He's A Dance Star   ultra consistent sort on the sod having never missed the board in 10 starts on it including 4 races down the majestic SA hill grass course......and he has a good history with Bejarano up

9  Ivanho

Longshot consideration:   4  Hustlin Nu   exits a very fast heat of 10,000 claimers with a win......steps way up for his 1st ever on the grass but he sure is bred nicely to take to it......claimed in his last and his new connections obviously like we they got

race 7    average clarity

6  Teddy's Promise   consistent sort and seemingly is at her very best at 6 1/2 furlongs as she owns 3 wins and a 2nd in 4 starts at the distance......Espinoza knows this five-year-old well and sure seems like a good fit with the Ellis runner

4  Conkate   very consistent when she is sprinting on "fast" rated conventional dirt .......and "It never rains in California........."

5  Executiveprivilege   terrific 2-year-old has been in the doldrums......needs a rebound......lookout if she produces one.....right trainer in Baffert to get it out of her

race 8    above average clarity

7  Key Vista   monstrous MSW debut last December......off since but Baffert has her primed and ready with some eye-popping works.......a TON if she's up to her debut effort

4  Madeoffwiththemoney  decent win/effort/fig 1st out after the Miller claim in a race over at Fairplex........that race was her 1st on conventional dirt.....has some upside

2  Cotton's Point   toss out last as this Hollendorfer filly doesn't want any part of a route......she IS a sprinter...........lone lifetime win came the only time she has run at today's six furlong distance

12 Yawannagokid

race 9    average clarity

6  Roman Threat   this Baffert runner ran one the best MSW debuts I have witnessed since switching my handicapping to S Cal.........great final time and blistering pace in his magnificent debut.......had a needed prep race off of the layoff......ready to roll today

8  Goldencents   done little wrong in 3 lifetime sprints......and continues to train like an extremely sharp racehorse

3  Centralinteligence   plenty of early gas in this Grade 1 can set things up nicely for this mid pack Ellis runner

5  Trinniberg

race 10    average clarity

1  Pretty Storm   strong MSW debut effort at Cby but disqualified (good time and a gap of 14L to 3rd).......decent (better than looks in print) first ever in S Cal second lifetime start......bred for the grass and owns good early speed.....likely to be in this affair from the get go

12  Savings Account   another with a strong MSW debut.......off since that early July debut but has some impressive works spaced tightly at 6 day intervals........wound up and ready to roll in her 1st on the sod which she is well-bred to handle

9  Loufoque   Richard Mandella 1st timer is training up to snuff to possibly be fully ready for his MSW debut......like our top two selections she also owns a good grass pedigree

10  Exotic Behavior

7  Cal Gal

2  Madame Heat
