Santa Anita for Sunday 12 October 2013

[private]

Seems like a decent card today and it is with a $91,500 pick six carry-over.

Be back with you tomorrow as there is racing.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    slightly above average clarity

6  Blonde Fog   powerful efforts in both lifetime starts.......the kind of runner that Mr Baffert is highly likely to have ready on her return to the race wars followings a long hiatus from the track

2  Black Witch      runs well fresh.....runs well at SA......and sure is looking good in the a.m........and then there is that Baffert guy again

3  Playful Humor   just fired lifetime best and it was her 1st ever on conventional dirt........in this affair if she manages to move forward 3rd out after the layoff which historically is a good thing with a Drysdale runner

race 2    average clarity

1  Silver Hustler   one win and one 3rd on conventional dirt without the blinkers on......sharp work regiment since her marathon grass race on 23 August......2nd time Stevens is usually a good thing......lone deep closer with little traffic anticipated with this being a small field

5  Rock and Glory   laid up 13 months but a.m. work indicates she is likely ready......lead type only has never failed to get the lead in a route

6 Warren's Veneda   consistent sort has yet to miss the board on main track surfaces....might sit in a good mid pack position with 1/2 the field pressing the issue up front

race 3    slightly above average clarity

2  Spring Moon   Baffert baby won for fun in MSW debut getting away loose on the lead by over 3L with a very slow pace......very stress-less run and the stout drills since suggest more should occur today

5  Cadron   Baffert baby here as well..........solid winning MSW debut back in late July.....set a solid pace and hung on for the win in decent final time.....off since but working up to snuff

1  Smoove'n    O'Neill filly is a little short number wise in her 2 efforts in June at Bhp but she sure appears to love the SA dirt surface as she just drilled 59:1 hg on her 1st and only work on it's surface

race 4    average clarity

9  Joesandbetty'sbaby   just claimed by O'Neill and he wisely puts his new filly back on the SA hill as she sure seems to run her best on it.....and he puts up Bejarano.....and 1st time Bejarano on a given horse is a dangerous thing

6  Calameera   set some nasty fractions in last in a two turn grass race (her 1st ever on the sod) and still stuck around for 2nd......has showed she can run off the pace in a sprint so the cut back in distance sure seems like a plus in her 1st down the majestic SA hill turf course

7  Citizen Jane   on the right end of the learning curve.....1st on the sod but she is bred to handle it fairly well

4  Marina De Heat

race 5    average clarity

6  Costamar   exit a fast MSW heat where getting beat by 7L with a so so trip was a decent debut.....solid endurance building work regiment since bodes well for her chances to handle the 7 panels......Stevens sticks around

5  Wild Carolina   broke slowly and ran somewhat green in MSW debut last.....new jockey and new surface.......big shot here if Puype gets this filly to smooth out the kinks

2  Contrasting   yet another Bob Baffert 1st timer seemingly all cranked up and ready to perform at a high level

7  Salsita

Long-shot consideration:   9  Saintly Joan   after a slow start this baby ran evenly in MSW debut last at Dmr......two impressive endurance building near bullet 6F drills at SA since.....and she has a good pedigree for 7F........should be 30 to 1 or higher here

race 6    average clarity

3  Woodys Wharf   on the improve with every start......cut back in distance is usually a major plus when running on the SA hill grass course for the 1st time

4  One Time Only   useful debut at AP in early Sept. for this Proctor filly.......and ultra impressive a.m. work in California since......1st on the sod but bred just fine for it

11  Moon Ride   bad trip in last off of the extended layoff hides a decent comeback effort......very aggressive work tab since.....good grass pedigree....sure seems ready to show her best ever this afternoon in her 3rd lifetime start

8  Legacy

Long-shot consideration:   5  Cravin' The Heat   best ever and better than par for today's level was the last time she ran down the SA hill grass course way back in March.......hasn't liked the conventional dirt or route racing so toss out her last 3 races.......big bullet drill just 6 days ago.....red hot trainer......bombs away??

race 7    average clarity

2  Half Dome Dude   nice layoff effort in last......3 reassuring works since and on they are on the SA dirt......good sign Hess puts this five-year-old up one claiming notch.....retains Maldonado

1  Ol' Steely Blue   fair circuit invader seems to be in good form and healthier than anyone in the field.....and he has a good history at 5 1/2 furlongs

4  Mayan Eyes   this gelding can run but he is a bit of a rogue despite having been gelded.....but when he behaves and gets even a so so trip he is usually quite dangerous

8  Stone Hot

race 8    average clarity

1  Journey On   impressive 1st ever on the grass and 1st ever at a route in last.......likely to once again get a ground saving trip on or near the pace.......Pedroza sure seems to fit this O'Neill runner having won two straight by and average of 5 lengths

5  Blazen All Star   improving by leaps and bounds......and 1st on the grass in last was her best ever......big rider upgrade for today......would have been top pick if she had shown more in the a.m.

8  Heat Du Jour   filly is in the top form of her career and retains the hot trainer/rider combo of Abrams and Nakatani.....seems highly likely to fire another solid effort

4  Warren's Rosebud

race 9    average clarity

5  Ice Cream Truck   exits a very fast heat where getting beat by 6 3/4L with a touch of a wide trip is still a solid effort for the bottom maiden claiming level.....bullet drill since....like the jock change ......should be tough

11  Full's Kris S.   needed last and the work regiment since his layoff last is quite good especially considering the level of racing.....also like this jock switch

9  Warren's Cliff S.   three-year-old-gelding is seemingly in good form and now gets a major league rider upgrade......7F seems like a good fit and it might not be for many in this field

7  Attempt

12  Spot of Thunder

1  Senor Snickers
