Hollywood for Friday 13 December 2013

Next week on Monday we will be doing maintenance to our website and making changes as to the way it operates. We should be ready for racing on Friday the 20th (no racing on Thursday the 19th) and will post the selections early Thursday afternoon so you can get used to any changes. For those of you (only about a dozen) that we have had to email the selections to the changes should fix things for you. Thank you in advance for your patience.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    slightly above average clarity

2  Chief Lion   on the right end of the learning curve and if this Harty runner can reproduce his latest effort in his 1st ever on the sod he should be stout here.......decent pedigree to handle turf.......good sprint grass jock up

1  Incline Village   off since May but his two efforts fresh off the bench are strong and one of them (his last race) was on the grass......work regiment has "ready" written all over it

5  Expo and Fig   race two back on the conventional dirt at SA fits.......1st on the sod today but bred to handle it just fine......trainer has won with his last 2 of 3 1st time on the grass with a given horse

3  The Cleaners

race 2    slightly below average clarity

5  Addendum   last man (filly) standing here........only true closer in the field and the small field of 5 greatly enhances her chances of not dealing with much traffic when she makes her move

3  Madeoffwiththemoney   toss out last.....doesn't care much for turf............claimed in last..........very sharp drills for her new trainer...............(9 4 3 0) at today's distance

2  Woebegon   obvious gimme as she was placed at one higher claiming level and ran on the grass which the connections surely new she doesn't like very much..........go today back on the AW and at one claiming level lower

race 3    slightly below average clarity

6  Rangi   better than appears in print in last two efforts getting caught wide in latest close to the pace and dealing with nasty fractions in his race 2 back.......both were route turf races and he showed he is better suited to turf sprints in his races overseas........two solid reassuring drills since his last

5  Summer Exclusive   solid effort on the SA dirt eight weeks ago (better than par when adjusted for a pace factor and being a bit wide).........returns for the same $50K tag which is a small concern but this Miller three-year-old is one for one at the 6F grass configuration at Hollywood and this most likely is the last chance SADLY EVER to run at the track on it's sprint turf course

2  He's Not Too Shaby   needs a rebound after a dull last out.......time off........decent series of 4 works.......and back to a sprint might provide the catalyst for the rebound

1  Ankeny Hill

race 4    average clarity

3  Wynhurst   prolonged work regiment likely has this Baffert 1ster ready for the challenge of handling this extended one turn race of 7 1/2 furlongs.......mom has tossed 5 winners from 5 starters.........that'll do

5  Midnight Hawk    another Baffert 1ster who often worked in tandem with our top pick........draws highly selective Mike Smith who seems only to want to be on very live runners at his age........who could blame him

6  Snuggley Bear   Canani two-year-old-colt just keeps getting better.............and better............ and better..........and........

7  Go Black Tie

race 5    average clarity

6  Bodrum   brutal trip in last his 2nd lifetime start is much better than appears on paper.........blinkers on to help focus.........impressive 6F drill just 6 days ago..........1st long and 1st on the sod but breed to appreciate both

2  Public Policy      par like efforts in both career races.......blocked bad in the stretch in last about 5L or might have broken her MSW........decent turf pedigree......route pedigree is a bit of a ? mark

10  Cernobbio   Cadler shipper ends up in the Machowsky barn......solid near win grass race at Crc 6 weeks ago..........3 reassuring drills at SA seem to suggest this youngster has held her Florida form.....fits fine if she has

7  Awesome Return

Long-shot consideration:  4  Mauco   solid wake-up 1st time blinkers in last.........might feel good running back in short rest........1st long and 1st on the turf but decently bred to handle both

race 6    slightly below average clarity

1  Amanda   consistent sort sprinting........runs as if he wants to go long and is bred to appreciate route racing........race lacks speed  and I think this runner has enough speed to sit somewhere between 1st and 4th at the 1st call in what ought to be a pedestrian pace

6  Lovely In Laguna   improving one small step at a time..........one more move in the right direction combined with a significant rider upgrade can make this filly dangerous here

3  Sheza Eyeopener   both races on AW surfaces fit fine here........seems most likely to grab the lead in this affair totally lacking front running types..........and she like our top two selections owns a decent pedigree to handle route racing

4  Room For Me

Long-hot consideration:   9  Silver Gun Girl   two things going for this longy.........handled Bhp well in her lifetime debut 8 races ago..........ran very well in her lone career two turn race which was a 7F affair at Fairplex at odds of 68 to 1

race 7    average clarity

2  Power Foot   ran like a horse who needed a race in his last which was off of a long layoff......................fits solidly here if he is up to his "A game" 2nd out after the layoff which I believe he is

1  Holladay Road     last was his best stretch run in some time for this Canani charge........very aggressive prolonged work series since........2 for 4 on the Bhp grass course..........1 for 7 on other grass courses.........seems very meant and ready today

7  Horizontalyspeakin   on the right end of the learning curve.......sharpest a.m. work ever (or at least in a very long time)..........seems likely to get loose with a good loose on the lead at a route jock in Mr Smith.....that'll do

3  Empty Headed

Long-shot consideration:   8  Mr T Bird   lone race ever at 1 1/8th on the grass was his best race ever and it is disguised by a bad news trip-a-rooo............Brice Blanc has been fairly hot and has an upset the apple cart shot here if he can keep his vastly improved riding going

race 8    average clarity

4  Sandy's Diamond    repeat of either of last two races will be tough to overcome......has been consistent all year

6  Royal Encounter   last two races fit OK.....but his race 3 back his last on an AW surface is very strong for the 8K level........trainer has had a tough 2013 but seems due to snap out of the doldrums

16  Bluegrass Reward   tough post but sure owns the best speed in this affair......seems likely to clear if not all most.......well proven at 7 and 7 1/2 furlong at Hollywood

5  Whipstock

2  Twin Six

10  Moment of Weakness
