Santa Anita for Thursday 26 December 2013

Still saddened by the closing of Hollywood Park (no way I'll remember it as Betfair Hollywood Park) but opening day at any major racetrack is kind of special and especially when it is opening day at majestic Santa Anita.

OK card today but Friday's card looks good albeit with some short fields.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

2  Crusher   on the improve with every lifetime start........very wide journey in latest.........Crusher would have lived up to his name in his last with a decent trip.....better post today

5  Mickey T   bad trip in latest hides an adjusted for trouble par effort.......lone dirt route at SA was good.....fits well today but will need to overcome his tendency to hang somewhat

7  Gold Tie Please   not much in his latest which was his 1st ever on the AW.....back to the conventional dirt at SA where he ran well and the effort is disguised somewhat as he ran close to the inside on an outside day

3  Bringon the Wain

race 2    below average clarity

6  We Have Lift Off   tepid top choice is training awfully well for a 1st timer and his trainer Karen Headley is 1 for 1 with MSW 1st time starters.....and that MSW winner was a very impressive winner

4  Forest Boy   10th attempt to break his maiden but his best two lifetime efforts were the only two times this Salder three-year-old sprinted on the SA dirt

1  Next Right   1st timer owns a pedigree to potentially be a heck of a sprinter and he is training as if he might be ready to roll at 1st asking

race 3    slightly above average clarity

1  Buckingham Bull   3/4's of this Cerin runner's efforts/figs fit solidly here including her last......good series of drills.....good post.......seems likely to fire a highly competitive effort today

7  Amanda   sure moved forward in her latest which was her 1st ever running a route of ground.......switches from the AW to 1st time on grass today but she is well bred to handle it

2  Cavalletta   like our top pick most of her turf races fit solidly here fig wise.......but.......she sure has a strong tendency to hang in the late stretch.....Espinoza will need to be all over her in the late stages of I believe she will hang once more

4  Joint Attempt

race 4    average clarity

7  Salutos Amigos   has been competitive at times placed in much higher levels.......1st time gelding today and training decently........mid pack runner in an affair loaded with speed........that  sure seems like a plus

9  Big Macher   steadily improving since Baltas claimed 6 races back......would have been top pick if it wasn't for all the early gas in this affair which he looks to be part of here

8  Five Palms   both lifetime races which were at Bhp fit fine here.....but he has trained at  SA since early Oct. and the works on it's conventional surface hint he might be even better on it's  surface

1  Drover Crazy

race 5    slightly above average clarity

10  Mr. Bossy Pants    incredibly consistent grass runner especially for Robert Diodoro.......should sit in a nice stalk or lead position as he usually does and with a jock who loves to be in the thick of things in the early stages

5  Trelawny   claim back by Mullins and it sure seems to be a good sign that he steps this fellow up a level.......and he sure worked an impressive 5/8th's bullet in preparation for today's race

3  Koast   beat our top pick 8 weeks ago and if he is fully fit off of the break he might do it again.......seems like a good sign that Mr. Rosario sticks with the Sadler runner

4  Luckarack

race 6    average clarity

1  Sweet Lulu   1 post you say.....no problem....2 for 2 breaking from it.......ultra consistent filly went way too in the early stages of her last which was in the B C F & M Sprint....did well to hang on for 5th....in versus easier today and they are all her own age

6  My Happy Face   all seven of her one turn (5F to 8F) lifetime races fit well here......New York shipper is under the guidance of her 3rd different trainer and he is a good one in Peter Miller

2  Heir Kitty   Miller trainee seems best on the conventional dirt at SA and her ability on the SA surface is somewhat hidden......only lost by 6L with a bad trip to the best female in the USA in Beholder........lucky for the mighty Zenyatta that Beholder wasn't around during her reign as Beholder would have beaten her a few times when the early fractions were soft to average......Zenyatta was great to say the least but there weren't any speed female types around at the time anywhere close to Beholder

7  Madame Cactus

race 7    average clarity

8  No Jet Lag  fell off quite a bit in last which was bad timing because it was in the BC Turf Mile........race 2 back is very strong and would crush these with just an average trip.......think there is about a 60/40 chance we will the effort 2 back

6  Gervinho   consistent sort appears to be screaming out for a shorter race distance and gets it today by 1/4 mile.......last was decent at a mile and a quarter so logically we might see the best ever from this Gaines runner this afternoon at one mile

9  Tom's Tribute   on the improve and this Cassidy three-year-old has rattled off two straight wins both since switching jocks to M Smith who is aboard once again today

5  Horizontalyspeakin

race 8    slightly above average clarity

11  Distinctiv Passion   three-year-old Bonde colt seemingly does his best running on the SA conventional dirt.......colt is capable of setting extremely fast fractions and still holding together.....very few are

5  Zeewat   last at today's 7F distance and at SA fits solidly here.....and since that 2 Nov. win this colt has steadily worked well........seems pointed and well meant for today's bigger challenge.....plenty of heat up front ought to flatter his late running style

4  Flashback   Baffert runner almost beat our 2nd choice on Nov 2nd which was also his last race.........and like our 2nd choice he should benefit from a hot pace being set up front

3  Heir Of Storm

race 9    below average clarity

6  Tax Enough   solid race two back and it is somewhat disguised by a bad trip........not too hot in latest.........obviously needs a rebound and if he does rebound and with a better trip he is easily the one to overcome

8  Mr Cactus   another whose race effort two back fits.......first on the conventional dirt but I like his pedigree for it.........major jock upgrade from the 4 jocks that have been aboard to date seems significant

4  Matzoh Ball Magic   bad trip in maiden debut two back on the SA main track hides the fact that this runner handled the surface.......moved forward as a 1st time gelding in latest and it also is hidden by a lousy trip.....sharp recent drill suggests he has held form.......now he just needs a good trip

9  Toomuchinformation

3  Dream Tokem

13  (AE)  Common Confusion

5  Confisio
