Santa Anita for Saturday 28 December 2013

Decent looking card once again today.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

4  Ezio   lone lifetime race on conventional dirt is arguably his best ever........claimed and ships in from GG in good form for a good trainer 1st out after a claim in Belvoir

3  Tiz Dynamic   2 for 3 on the dirt at SA when rated "fast".........2 of 13 on other surfaces.......off since the last day of August but training as if Baltas has him ready fresh

6  Second City   last at SA in late September is better than appears in print.....the race was a very fast affair and he was wide (and close to a decent pace) on a somewhat biased rail day.........trainer popped for a win yesterday in the opener and he sure has this gelding sharp in the a.m.

2  Liberty Cap

race 2    slightly above clarity

6  San Onofre   best figure (in his last) by quite a bit in this field......lone speed........nice drills and those drills are at SA.........Smith would have to be asleep not to guide this heavy favorite home

5  Topper's Ghost   best ever was his lone race run on the conventional dirt at SA.......will still need more today if our top pick runs his race

4  Life A Riley   1st time gelding today and two solid recent 6F works hint the ultimate equipment change has improved this three-year-old.......might fire lifetime best today but will likely need our top choice to have a bad day to win

race 3    average clarity

4  Echo Zulu   ultra consistent in one turn sprints (7 2 4 1)..........versatile fellow can win on the front end and take back off of it to score as well........and Pedroza has been a good fit with this two-year-old

3  Brando The Birdman   big forward move in 2nd lifetime start and the effort is hidden some by a bad trip..........the race is 3L better than par for today's level when you adjust for the trip........1st on the conventional dirt is a ? mark

8  Rocked Twice   improving sort was just snatched at the claiming box by Sadler........rider upgrade for today.....and.......Sadler is stout 1st out after a claim and especially dangerous 1st out after a maiden claim

1  Oh Brother Go

race 4    slightly above average clarity

2  Enterprising    Proctor sure is hot with his grass stock and he can keep the ball rolling here with this baby who broke his MSW in good time and he did it running wide close to the pace.......hasn't missed a beat in the a.m. since.......good post and rider.......highly likely to run a good one today

3  Craftsman   GB invader owns the best turf credentials and seems to have been shipped fit.......like our top choice I am fairly sure he will fire a highly competitive effort this afternoon

7  My Secret Affair   nice wake up in last (with the blinkers added) breaking his MSW in a grass sprint at Bhp.........rider upgrade........Smith is a dangerous front running jock in turf routes and I believe that is the plan here with this early speed type

8  Royal Banker

race 5    slightly below average clarity

1  Gameboy Luke   nasty paced duel in MSW debut on a day that wasn't all that friendly to speed horses.........did well to stick around for third..........went off 62 to 1 so most likely shocked his connections......dangerous 2nd time starter with proven significant early speed

6  Chelios   hasn't missed a beat in the a.m. hitting the track every 6 days since 19 Oct.......that strongly suggests a sound and wound up 1st timer and for a trainer/rider popping at a 43% clip the last couple of months........shot and a goal for Chelios

3  Garen   well bred Peter Miller 1st timer also looks as if he is meant......well worked.......and ready to roll in his debut into the wonderful world of Thoroughbred racing

5  Smiley Eagle

race 6    average clarity

4  Miraglo   impressive in lone turf route run which was two races back at Bhp..........was only beaten 2L for the win despite running way too wide.........jock owes the connections a better ride than that and will be out to make amends today

1  Ontology   talk about in need of a confidence builder.....maiden has only run in one maiden race in 7 lifetime starts.......MSW today and draws a good post......fits a ton if of course he is able to handle his 8th race as a two-year-old

2  Big Medicine Man   improving sort has shown he can handle two turns on the dirt so that is half the battle........1st on the grass seems to be the ? mark.........bred quite well to take to it.......and gets 1st time Bejarano and a good post

6  Kozani

Long-shot consideration:   7  Life's Journey   last at Bhp wasn't bad.......race two back at SA was quite good and better than appears in print.......and today we get a (turf) rider upgrade.......dangerous and likely at a double digit price

race 7    average clarity

8  Seeking The Sherif   won off of a prolonged layoff way back in March at SA.......will likely win again with a decent trip if this gelding is up to the same effort today.......fresh once again

5  Tribal Smoke   drops a notch this afternoon and both lifetime races on conventional dirt one of which was at SA sure looks solid and than some here

9  Rosko   Golden Gate invader is on the improve with every start and now switches trainers from Mathias to Eurton......."lead type only" so far will likely be all out early to grab a loose lead

2  Lovemeister

race 8    slightly above average clarity

4  Unbridled's Note   not been the luckiest of runners in most of her 5 lifetime turf sprints........very formidable here with even an average trip and the smallish field of seven should help her get at least an average trip

2  Chips All In   hoping Gryder avoids the front end and sits off the pace a little as this solid grass sprinter has run his best sprint grass races stalking the pace

1  El Commodore   interesting cut back in distance as this grass miler constantly tires in the last 1/16th in his one mile grass races.......cut back turf route to turf SA hill turf sprint has resurrected many a grass horses over the years

8  Ain't No Other

race 9    average clarity

7  Red Barris   wide trip in last was a better than par effort when adjusted for her trip....claimed by Knapp....good sign he gets Bejarano to ride

11  Exotic Behavior   last fits fine.....and drops a couple of claiming notches....should be tough unless she is declining which she might be......60/40 that she isn't

10  She's Flush    best at SA and best with with today's jock Edwin Maldonado aboard......can be in the hunt from the get go

5  Miraculous Mindy

2  Reflective Glory

3  Miss Fast Eddie
