Santa Anita for Saturday 11 January 2013

Difficult but interesting card today. Sunday's looks good.......maybe the best of the week.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

3  Magna Warrior   solid pace for the level set in mc debut last.....steps up in claiming.......feels good - most likely........shot to wire with an effort under his belt

6  Matt The Hammer   dangerous looking work regiment and for a stout conditioner with mc 1sters in Peter Miller......bred for and trains like he has some early gas

1  Voluntary   exits a fast heat of mdn30K runners with an effort/fig that is still better than par for today's mdn50K level........handled the 1 post in last so not too worried about the often difficult post today.....1st on conventional dirt is a ? mark

4  Fuzzy Logic

race 2    average clarity

6  Planet Sunshine   good spot for a consistent sort as many in here have question marks.........all 3 lifetime races run at SA were at today's distance and are better than par.....not too shabby

1  Golden Itiz   trainer is kind of cold......rider is white hot........horse is slowly declining but sure fits here at 50K still......and he is 3 for 5 at today's distance

4  Carlsbad Mountain   good run turf to dirt especially pace wise........turf to dirt again today........will need best ever but a.m. prowess hints he might give it

race 3    slightly below average clarity

5  Anita Marie   plenty of cheap speed in this affair and that should aid this rateable Hollendorfer filly who won easily at this level 2 back with today's rider aboard

2  Tribal Dress   1 for 1 at SA and it was her lifetime best.......likely feels real good today running off a grass race and returning in 13 days....can run on or just off the pace and that versatility might come in handy here

7  Rossi Reserve   excellent history when an apprentice with their weight break has been up (4 1 3 0) and today's app. has been up for 3 of those races......and today's app. Orozco is quite hot

6  Madoffwiththemoney

race 4    average clarity

8  Old Pueblo  solid mc debut and the effort is disguised somewhat......broke slow and ran wide......did well to close for 3rd........reassuring better than it looks 4F drill since.......should be tough with the same effort and a smoother journey

4  Satch   showed life in all three lifetime races at GG......1st time Sadler and the works hint that he has improved his new runner........1st on the dirt but owns a good pedigree for it

3  High On Final   ran an excellent MSW grass race in 2nd lifetime start and drops today in his next star to mdn20K........hurting somewhere......just a matter of how much

1  Spectacular Journey

Long-shot consideration:   10  Mixed Nuts   trainer seldom has 1st timers......but........he has hit the board in the last 2 he has started and this four-year-old-gelding is training as if he might be ready and ready with some ability

race 5    slightly above average clarity

1  Kristo   when last seen this Hollendorfer colt crushed his competition in his 1st ever at a route.........effort/fig fits even though it was a MSW affair........the race was at SA and I believe the sharp conditioner has pointed him to this Grade 3 ever since........and he retains Bejarano

6  Midnight Hawk   good MSW debut win..........effort - fig will need to be improved on and the way he in which is working strongly says that it will be........partially owned be Joe Quenneville who I consider the best coach Chicago has ever seen......sorry Phil Jackson

5  Top Fortitude   powerful MSW sprint debut.....effort/fig fit if he can do the same at a route today.......full brother to Top Debutante who appreciates running long for trainer Kory Owens......jockette/trainer have won 3 of their last 5 teaming up

race 6    slightly below average clarity

3  Fire in the Wind   might be at his very best at SA running at today's 6F distance........so lookout if his latest was nothing more than a gimme to drop and go today at a more favorable racing surface and distance.....trainers stock have been firing

10  Street Car   might be a good claim as this old fellow wired in solid pace in his last and in his previous he was able to run well from off the pace which seemed unlikely prior to the race when examining his running lines.....and we get a major league rider upgrade for today

2  Guidopanzini     seeming gets plenty of heat up front to flatter his mid pack running style.........good history running at today's distance (6 2 2 0)

1  Peacenik

race 7    average clarity

1  Dress Code  been awhile since he has seen it but this Puype runner appreciates route grass racing........steps up smartly one claiming level off of a sprint AW win..........good post.........and retains Espinoza who knows this gelding well

5  Anythingscookin   should be in the race from the get go......cut back of 1/16th appears to be a plus........decent turf record at SA and all the races were run at 1 mile (3 0 1 2)

4  Gab Power    long overdo drop for this deep closer who obviously has slipped some........should come roaring home late if he still has remained in relatively good health

10  Danderek

Long-shot consideration:   11  Dancing Upside Down    nothing special about his layoff run in last......but.....blinkers off for today and assuming he is now working with them off then lookout as out of nowhere he is trained like a vastly improved runner.......tough post but owns plenty of early gas to clear many here

race 8    average clarity

1  Blingo      big race in his last which was on the conventional dirt at Bel winning in stellar time.....that race was off a 3 month layoff.........3 months off again today and training well.......hmmm

2  Blueskiesnrainbows   seemingly never sharper and now this Hollendorfer charge has become a much more rate-able front running type........retains Pedroza who seems to get the most out of this five-year-old

6  Rousing Sermon   another Hollendorfer runner who seems to have held his form.......and he retains Bejarano who has teamed up with Hollendofer with spectacular success over an extended period of time........one of the many impressive stats as a team is 26 of the last 29 in the money over the last couple of months......wow!

3  Majestic City

race 9    slightly below average clarity

5  Wynhurst   believe the MSW debut on the AW at Bhp (and at a difficult distance for 1ster in 7 1/2F)  was needed as his works sure have been awfully good since his debut........tough call pedigree wise as to his chances to handle turf......but I believe he is very fit and will be tough if he handles the new surface

8  Friendswith K Mil   fell off a lot in latest his 2nd lifetime start.......debut 2 back is very impressive and hidden by a bad trip.......like our top choice this is his 1st on the sod......another one who is tough to judge his breeding for it.....but if M Smith wants the mount (the way he has been going) that's good enough for yours truly

12  Melatonin    nasty post but owns plenty of early gas and a good speed/gate jock up in Maldonado.........and he has a good pedigree for the green carpet

2  Home Kitten

3  Sudden Rumor

10  Distillery
