Santa Anita for Friday 24 January 2014

So so card today. Inside was better yesterday but I believe still slightly dull.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    slightly above average clarity

5  Sheza Eyeopener   MSW debut with blinkers was quite good especially considering he went off at 52 to 1............nothing much in next 4 races with the blinkers on......blinkers off in last at GG and it was a major wake-up........that effort fits well here if she can repeat it in her 1st ever on conventional dirt

4  Corinthian Melody   most of her career screams that she is the one to beat here.....but what a hanger.....refuses to put her nose in front........still......what a weak spot.........seems like now or never to overcome her bad habit

3  The Mothership   decent forward move in 2nd lifetime start.......needs the trend to continue in 3rd lifetime start

race 2    slightly above average clarity

3  Flagman   owns the most two turn turf experience by far in this group........and she seems to be improving with each and every race

1  I'll Wrap It Up    lone grass race fits well and gets the hot Mike Smith in the saddle for the 1st time.....and Doug O'Neill snapped out of a funk yesterday........he might be starting a roll of sorts

4  Dance With Fate   off since 2 Nov........obviously very stout here if he takes to the sod and returns fit and ready......but I'm leaning 60/40 to him needing a race.....thus the 3rd selection

race 3    slightly below average clarity

5  Tiz Midnight   Baffert filly moved forward in her 2nd lifetime start and if she lives up to her pedigree she can move forward again in her 1st at a route of ground

2  Brilliant Jewel   been absent for one day short of a year but she is working well enough to be ready and if she is 3 of her 4 lifetime races fit well here

3  Thisonesforricky   Marty Jones sure has been firing on all cylinders and especially when Bejarano rides.........off since May but she is a one and done type so it seems highly likely she will be ready fresh as it might be quite some time until she can race again

race 4     average clarity

7  Glances Rule   cut back of one furlong seems like a plus......trainer is rather hot........and the filly ought to be on or near the front end from the get go which should help her (5 0 0 0 at the meet) jock who is not exactly in the top echelon of riders get the job accomplished

2  Parade Bound   good awakening in latest 1st time with the the blinkers on.....cut back of 1/2 furlong seems like a good deal........in good shape here if this filly manages to build off of her last endeavor

8  Girly Ghost   1ster has good enough drills to possibly be a factor in a weak group

3  Miss Swiss Rose   1st timer seems fit enough.....most likely a late runner

race 5    average clarity

5  Yankee Rebel   claimed by the ever dangerous Jerry Hollendorfer and especially dangerous when he rides Bejarano........not much speed in the race and this gelding's mid pack style in this spot seems fast enough to sit close to the front and...........he get a nice ground saving trip with Bejarano aboard

7  Bobby Flay   solid layoff run in last especially considering the 1 1/8th distance.........smartly steps up and more importantly out of claiming .........seems very likely to move forward......should be in the mix late

4  Midnight Casanova   dangerous speed here.....looks loose and might slow things down to a crawl

3  Tommy O   needs best but Stevens accepting mount hints he might give it

race 6    slightly below  average clarity

6  Traweek   placed over his head in last in what sure appears to be a gimme.........drops down multiple par levels........seems best at SA .......seems best at 5 1/2F........gets both today.........and mid pack runner also appears to have a good spot in which to compete with the 2 - 4 - 5 all possibly wanting the front end

4  Fast N Furious Cat   fresh dropping speed is a dangerous thing and especially for a trainer in need of a win to jump start his career which has been declining in a big way.....T C Baze is up and he has a good history with this Ted West runner

5  Peacenik   dangerous speed but he needs the lead to win and might not get it........but........ he sure might be tough if he gets it

1  Truelee Scrappin   might sit pretty in a stalk position behind collapsing speed

race 7     average clarity

5  Mensa   very impressive MSW win at Bhp in November.....off since but training very solidly and her trainer seldom pushes his stock too hard in the mornings........1st on the grass but she is bred nicely for it......and most that handle the Bhp AW handle the turf

7  Zanbo   good speed spot and this Puype five-year-old mare has some........proven on the hill and sure has responded well with Bejarano on her back........should be in it from the get go and tough down the lane

9  Diaminda   all three sprints in GB look like a good fit here.......and draws Smith who sure his been getting on live runners and riding them well.......would have picked higher if his GB running style wasn't from off the pace

8  Escape Act    back class - dangerous speed in a good spot for speed

race 8     slightly below average clarity

6  Controller   solid forward move in 2nd lifetime start and her 1st on the SA dirt.........somewhat hidden by not the best of trips.........seems stout here if 0 for 28 jock gives her a better ride and/or she manages to move forward again

1  Among The Stars   takes that ever dangerous drop out of MSW racing........sure should be tough if she handles her 1st on convention dirt (good pedigree for it) and has remained in relatively good physical condition

3  Ipolita   Ron Ellis is red hot.......blinkers on.........drops out of MSW......dangerous runner even tough she's shown little

4  Passion Bucket   useful debut..........improved work since........more today to some degree seems likely

7  Very Thankful    not much in last.......debut 2 back fits with a better trip

8  Julie S    Miller 1st timer might be ready at 1st asking
