Santa Anita for Friday 14 February 2014

Race card seems fine for today and both Saturday's and Sunday's seem decent as well.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

2  Ankeny Hill    best ever was the lone time today's rider Gary Stevens was aboard.........colt can be awfully quick in the early stages and he sure was with Stevens ........should be able to get the jump on our 2nd pick the only other speed in the race

1  He's a Dance Star   ultra consistent sort has never missed the board in 12 turf starts of which 6 were down the SA hill grass course........believe Bejarano will be more than happy to chase our top pick and try and get him down the stretch because if he tries to go with him it likely will be costly

5  Joelita    laid up mid pack runner has a prolonged series of tightly spaced works that says "ready" to roll fresh off of the bench for Hollendorfer.......connections will have their fingers crossed that our top two picks do battle from the get go

race 2    slightly above average clarity

5  Magic Mark   talk about a soft spot following your MSW graduation........best "dirt" runner in the field and so much the controlling speed

6  Poshsky   lone win and best ever came AW sprint to conventional dirt route at Bsr and it was a 9 1/2L win........turf sprint in last.......SA dirt route today

7  Noble Kent   deservedly steps up some as this Puype five year old has been on the improve ever since he put Orozco and his weight break up 5 races back.....fits well here if the improving trend continues

4  Volkonsky

race 3    slightly above average clarity

1  Seeking Asylum   all three SA dirt races are some degree better than par efforts when you adjust trouble and the latest is disguised quite a bit with 5L of trip trouble.......and back to 7F today which was the strongest of the aforementioned three races at SA

3  Head South   not the best of trip-a-roos in last two endeavors yet almost won both of the races........likely the one to beat if the apprentice rider can manage a better journey this afternoon

5  Code of Pleasure   mc debut way back in late September is much better than appears in print as this youngster broke slowly and ran wide on a good rail day.......showed plenty of life in that bad trip........away since but the a.m. work hints he is ready to roll fresh

8  Shark's Cup

race 4    average clarity

9  Wild At Best   work tab for this Mullins state-bred three year old filly MSW 1st timer is solid especially when you consider the level of racing.....and mom has tossed 3 winners from 3 starters one of which was also a Stakes winner

3  Gouyen   nice MSW debut 2nd with a gap of 5L to 3rd for this Glatt three-year-old filly......work tab since is good so she likely will be as good or better this afternoon as her debut despite the 8 weeks between starts

4  Western Kitty   good work regiment for this Puype three year old filly state-bred 1ster especially when you consider the level of racing......very impressive bullet drill on 6 Jan

7  Shakitupbetty

race 5    average clarity

1  Peace and Justice   love that John Shirreff's sees fit to skip a race level with this grass horse who really took to the firm turf at Santa Anita in his last........set a nasty pace loose on the lead and went on with it as if the quick pace was no big deal........needs to put away the 4 horse and I obviously think he will

7  Outside Nashville   seems likely to get a good mid pack position and ponce come stretch time.....first time Bejarano is usually a good thing and especially for Jerry Hollendorfer

3  Huntsville    best distance record wise by far is at today's one mile grass distance........Abrams runner made a solid rebound in his last and a nice 5F drill since hints his form has remained intact

8  Di Giorgio

race 6    average clarity

6  Warrens Lil Margie   what an awakening 1st time ever at a route in latest........ran wide but she was still able to crush her competition and graduate....... same with a smoother trip and she will be tough as nails here

5  In Dad's Honor   definitely on the right end of the learning curve.....1st at a route but her trainer Ron Ellis is firing on all cylinders and her pedigree says she will likely handle the two turn mile distance

3  Papa's Flashy Girl   another who is seemingly learning and improving with every start........and her conditioner Peter Miller is getting the most out of horse's shipping in from Turf Paradise

1  Djimmah

race 7    average clarity

2  Black Spirit   very solid 1st in the good old U S of A for this Dean Greenman newbie........impressive 1 1/4 effort considering he was last seen at York GB in Oct.........1 1/2 turf miles looks right up his alley..........and he draws M Smith who is having his best meeting in quite some time

1  Boyott   showed he can rate in his latest which was a somewhat impressive 1 1/4 turf run........1 1 /2 might be pushing it a bit but I thought that about his 10 furlong effort

3  Mambo River   toss out last as he had a very poor trip and sat close to last in a race with a pedestrian pace being set.......best ever was his race a 1 3/8th's on the grass.......so 1  1/2 on the turf likely will be a plus when it won't for many in here

8  Code of Conduct

race 8    slightly below average clarity

5  Star Image   good forward move in 2nd lifetime start at GG........smartly steps up a level........extra 1/2 furlong and 1st on conventional dirt both seem like they will be a plus for this Moger invader

1  Controller   fell off in last but race 2 back is very solid......and today we get a very significant rider change from a rider who is in a bad slump to Bejarano.......very stout if rebounds to her effort two back

10  Fashionably Rich   was improving one baby step at a time until she made a major move in the right direction in her last which was her 1st on conventional dirt........she will be in the hunt from the get go here if she continues her good gate habits

11  Miss Swiss Rose

8  Hayley's Gray

2  L X Sunrise
