Santa Anita for Saturday 22 Feb 2014

Once again seems like a decent card today. Hopefully better prices than yesterday where we did have 5 of 8 top choice winners but the average price of the 5 wins was $4.60.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

1  Salsita   consistent sort seems best on the SA dirt sprinting and she takes a small meaningful drop of $10K and she has caught a soft looking spot here

3  Soar Home   filly takes a logical drop after 2 so so runs in MSW affairs.......drops to mdn50K here and she only went for $42k at sale.....1st on conventional dirt but she has worked OK on the SA surface

2  Veronica Bay   seems to have run into shape with a turf sprint and then a turf route.........means bizz today dropping into maiden 5F drill at SA and a rider upgrade also hint she might be up to a solid effort in her 1st ever dirt race

race 2    slightly above average clarity

7  Do Some Magic   hellooooo route grass racing......big wake up 1st at route in last.....that race fits well here and anything more will be icing on the cake.....jockey slowly seems to be awakening from a slump....trainer is on fire

1  Brave Act   strong layoff dirt race in last......and 3 good and reassuring drills since.........and back to the grass which might be his preferred surface.........retains meets top gun

8  It Is Living Water   very strong mc sprint debut especially considering the trainer has a weak history with 1st starters.......endurance building 7F drill put in since.........decent grass pedigree............A. C. Avila shows some signs of waking up and breaking out of a prolonged slump

3  Mr Lemon Tree

race 3    slightly above average clarity

5  Sri's Red   good layoff run in last......near bullet and bullet drill since........very impressive for the bottom level of mdn claiming.........very likely to move forward and that is scary because her last fits awfully well

3  Room For Me   big awakening in 2nd lifetime start which was a route race........and claimed in the race by Simon Callaghan and he finds a good spot for his newbie in a 7F race.........should have plenty left in the tank in the late stages coming of a route

6  Georgia's Niece   decent better than appears in print layoff run in last.........only race at today's 7F distance was a 3rd at SA and the two in front of her came back to graduate in their next start........also has a good looking work at LA

race 4    average clarity

5  Sweetest Secret   2 of her last 3 grass sprints fit fine here (all since the blinkers were put on) and today this Saavedra runner gets a major league turf jock upgrade

3  Julio's Gold   trainer has been hot the last couple of weeks and so has the rider........only race on the grass was a win but it I am a bit concerned that she almost blew the lead with the maybe the slowest set fractions at 6F on the sod at Bhp ever.........still.......she is loose here once again in all likelihood and maybe with another slow pace

7  Tap The Magic   very dangerous gimme/go - blinkers on/blinkers off scenario bullet drill to boot

8  Burns Turn

race 5    average clarity

4  Sidebar    Bill Spawr runner sure likes the SA surface and/or the blinkers on and she continues to work like a happy healthy horse.......seems very likely to give a good account of herself for the 3rd straight time in 2014

1  Zuzu's Petals   filly owns the best credentials in the trainer.......but be careful as this filly has failed to win as the heavy favorite in 3 consecutive races.......but then again she just popped one of the best drills of her career and her trainer doesn't push them too hard usually

5  Lets Get Frisky   competitive in all five lifetime main track races......won his maiden debut (his lone lifetime win) so he might be very dangerous fresh off off the extended hiatus from the hint that Kruljac has her ready

race 6    average clarity

11  Baruta   best races for this BRZ invader now racing for Mandella are her efforts on the sod when it was on the firmer side.....and it is more likely that there is an earthquake in L.A. these days than work tab says ready to roll

1  Kyriaki    fresh off the bench for this Eurton filly who is working as if ready and somewhat proven running fresh off the bench.......and she gets Bejarano to ride........showed she can sprint running well on the turf to dirt off track in her MSW debut

5  Deity   last was fairly decent but more importantly this filly has moved forward in the last 3 times she has been in that history says she'll fire more than her last and her last wasn't too bad

7  One Time Only

race 7    slightly below average clarity

2  I Don't Care Who   seems to appreciate ample time between starts and gets it.......and she has preformed well when she can sit just off the pace and she seems likely to be in that position here

1  Avare   dangerous speed in this spot and the somewhat unheralded jock is pretty good with route speed types and that is what this O'Neill charge happens to be

5  Golden Itiz   slowly declining seven-year-old probably has a few more decent races left in him.......might really fly late with the bug boy up who loves to come from the clouds to score

race 8    average clarity

4  Lakerville    5 wins and 2 2nd's in 7 lifetime starts all of which were sprinting on the turf and yet the lowest this horse has ever gone off at is 7 to 5.......nice layoff win off of the extended hiatus from racing as our top choice at 8 to 1......and he has moved forward both times 2nd out after a "fresh" race

7  Ambitious Brew   another Cal-bred who has done little wrong in 6 lifetime starts (6 3 3 0) and he won both of his turf races which were down the SA hill......and after being a little green early on he has become a very manageable runner

3  Summer Hit   last four route races turf or dirt sure fit extremely well here but he might be better routing and has to overcome 2 very accomplished consistent sprinters.......still the cut back in distance is a dangerous proposition down the SA hill

1  Kate's Forever

race 9    average clarity

4  End of Time  have to admit I have plenty to learn about judging LA works (just a matter a time) but 58:2 sure looks good to me.....lone lifetime race at SA at 6F is very good and the trainer Shaun Morrow is better than his 8% record would indicate.....believe this laid up runner is meant and ready fresh off of the bench

9  Profire   did move forward in 2nd start after the layoff in last and owns decent speed.....might need a little more and seems likely to get it as Sadler/Maldonado are a new hot trainer/combo the last couple of weeks......both awakening from the doldrums in a big way and especially Sadler

6  Spectacularjourney   lifetime best by far and a race that fits well here was run 3rd out after a layoff.........3rd out after a layoff once again today and a rider upgrade.......hmmmm

7  Love Forever

8  Dark Timbers

5  Anzeau
