Santa Anita for Friday 7 March 2014

Average card at best today with the 7th race being the most intriguing. Very nice "Big Cap" card Saturday!

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

1  War Politics   Hollendorfer charge must be doing well for him to ship a cheap claimer all the way from GG and move him up a level......gelding is very consistent hitting the board in 9 straight.......and he might be best on conventional dirt.....1st time Bejarano too

2  Londinium   2 for 2 at SA (both route races) and 0 for 11 elsewhere.......well placed to win as a $12.5K nw2 race is basically the same level/par as an open $8K claiming race......good trainer/jockey team in Iggy Puglisi and Paul Aguirre

3  Unstopper Topper   rail speed bias yesterday and this declining individual should get the lead which would make him dangerous if he lucks out and gets Thursday's inside highway

race 2    average clarity

2  Sun of Malibu   wide trip in MSW debut and he sat too far off a slow pace........did well to only get beat by 4L......and he might not have been fully wound up as he had little support at the windows going off at 21 to 1..........3 useful drills since.........more today seems likely and more with a good trip would be nice

3  Prettyboyfloyd   youngster has preformed better than par in all 3 lifetime sprints for today's MSW level.....would easily have been top choice if this race was a sprint but it is a route........and.........trainer lacks experience with a quality three year old colt attempting to get a route for the 1st time........retaining Bejarano sure makes Denise Breuer's task easier

1  Party Time   believe the bullet 6F gate work spaced so close (5 days) prior to this colt's debut was a lot ask of this Baffert runner and it likely keep him from preforming his best........stout bullet 6F work once again but this time a more reasonably 9 days prior to his start.......and he sure owns a pedigree that screams "route racing"

5  Vegas Strip

race 3    average clarity

5  Rhagori   GB invader has a good history on the turf when racing at any grass distance less than 1 1/4 miles......and she is 1 for 1 at one mile on the sod.....good works / top jockey say......... ready........... 1st in the good old U S of A

8  Miss Well Molded    very consistent sort but she has a tough post with the rail in the 30 ft position but she does own tactical speed and might be able to drop over some by turn one behind the speed of the 3 and 7 horse

4  Ginger Top   last two efforts are par like efforts and the latest is hidden by a poor trip.......deep closer might get the necessary early pace to set things up for her late kick as the 3, 7 and 8 all have solid early speed

2  Silver Hustler

race 4    average clarity

3  Too Fast to Pass   when Hollendorfer doesn't get it done 1st out after the claim he so often is oh so dangerous in his next start......that is the case here and he drops this gelding back to the level he claimed him for

8  Great Friends Rule   finally back to the 25K level that the hot trainer Diodoro snatched this runner for 4 races back......you fill in the blank for a trainer that has never gotten the job done anywhere close to rate that he has of late........50k - 3rd.......40K - 3rd........32K - 2nd.......today at 25K ??????

7  Limited Response   trainer is solid 3rd out after layoffs.......horse broke his maiden in 3rd lifetime start........1 for 1 at today's 7F distance and the race was at SA.......gimme - gimme - go scenario

6  No Contingency

race 5    average clarity

4  Kathleen Rose   seems best at one mile on the grass and that is what this filly gets today.........capable of going on with it when on a near a solid pace and yet there isn't that much early speed in this affair........so........she might be dealing with a reasonable pace which would likely make her especially tough

5  Hard To Resist   improved recent work tab.......drops a level.......and draws the meets top gun in Bejarano.......sure seems live

3  Sweet Red Cat     laid up since June but returns with a new trainer in Ellis (was Sadler) and he has been able to put in some nice drills into his new filly........filly ran very well in her lifetime debut so she might be quite ready to roll fresh off of an extended hiatus from the track

8  High Jinks

Long-shot consideration:   1  Warren's Flasher   mare is best running at one mile on the grass.......she owns some back numbers at the distance that fit......jock is struggling but not riding for Guttierrez

race 6    slightly below average clarity

2  Sweet Factory   won MSW debut like a good thing last March and she is training as if she is fully wound up to be ready fresh once again......and she gets same jock in Mike Smith

4  Rhodium   much more consistent runner since the blinkers were removed 4 races ago.........sure like the cut back from a route to 7F especially for a speed horse.......helps the late in the stretch staying power

8  Appealing Resume   late runner steps up quite a bit off of the claim but she does seem to get enough early gas in this affair to flatter her late run.......and Bejarano has won his last 3 mounts on the seven-year-old mare

5  Small Moves

race 7    slightly above average clarity

8  Heavens Stairway   vastly improved in latest 1st time ever running without the blinkers.........won despite running very wide......bullet drill since.......very capable trainer is showing signs of waking up from a prolonged slump

6  Blake's Magic   another with a significant improve in her latest......almost won a  4 yr 32K despite a rough beginning.......lone lifetime win came in career start number 3........so 3rd out after the layoff might be a very dangerous proposition

4  Intoxicating Move   won this race condition in her last and won it by over 3L.....retains Bejarano.........tough to place this filly as low as 3rd selection but she does face quite a bit tougher competition here than in her last

5  Callous Effect

race 8    average clarity

3  Old Pueblo   improving sort seems very solid here if he can avoid a prolonged 7 furlong duel with anyone of 3 speed types sitting outside of him.....likely will go off a ridiculously low price as the connections tend to pound their horses when they are in good form

4  Puerto Williams   exits a fast heat at today's level......in fact this colt ran faster than the winner of the other division of mdn 20K claimers in his last which was at 1 1/16th....cut backs to 7F is often a good maneuver.......might be finishing with run when others will be flattening

6  Rob's Pal   most of his career turf or dirt fits well here and would have rated higher if it wasn't for a slight tendency to hang

8  Take a Risk

7  Tale of Power

5  Dark Timbers
