Santa Anita for Thursday 13 March 2014

Seems like a very good card to start the new week of racing. We shall see.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

2  Luckarack   solid off pace to mid pack turf sprinter has averaged par for the 40K level in his 4 grass sprints two of which were down the SA hill.....and now he gets 1st time Bejarano

6  Dixieland Blues   usually 7 lbs apprentices are not much on the grass even when they are stout on the main track.......but not this bug boy........his 7 lbs break sure seems like an distinct advantage especially down the hill.......kid will try to make it 2 straight down the hill on this gelding for the red hot Marty Jones

8  Causeithertz   as expensive as I imagine Bob Baffert's per day charge is with a given horse the money earned by this gelding has likely been a break even proposition......so the drop into 40K seems logical.......fits well at this level but still has something to prove down the hill

3  Atta Boy Pete

Long-shot possibilities:   1  Kingpin Ryno   trainer Litt has awoken from the doldrums in a big way and so has this gelding in the a.m. the last few weeks.........good back numbers and 1 for 2 on the hill........dangerous price shot

race 2    slightly above average clarity

5  Pimpernel   solid move forward in last and sharp a.m. work since........very dangerous if he moves a little forward which his drills hint that he might

4  Cherubim   both lifetime races run on the SA dirt are solid both in pace and final time........should be on or near the lead from the get go battling to some degree with our top pick

3  Beach Hut   inferior so far to our top two picks but if they duel hard he might be able to run on by late from a stalking or mid pack position

race 3    slightly above average clarity

5  Lady Vixen   successful GG trainer is 1 for 1 at the SA meeting.......and he drops this mare 3 claiming levels 2nd out after the claim.....that combined with the surface switch (5 0 0 0) at GG / (13 3 3 2) on conventional dirt likely will make for a tough N Cal invader

6  Beautiful Spirit   very good history with 4 to 5 weeks between starts and that is what we have here........last sure fits well and is somewhat hidden by not the best of trips.......one tough trainer/rider combo in Bonde/Bejarano

8  Metaxa   smooth consistent runner was just snatched at the claiming box by Steven Miyadi and he has won "1st out after a claim" over 1/3rd of his last 4 dozen claims

2  Angel's Moon

race 4    slightly above average clarity

4  Biorhythm   tremendous turf route speed in latest for this Tom Proctor filly.......blinkers on for today......gets in at 112 lbs. with hot app up.....cuts back to a turf sprint today........seems loose and very dangerous

1  Winding Way   both lifetime grass races down the beautiful SA hill turf course are quite strong......and I like the 36:4 drill just two days ago for a Proctor runner..........superior team of Stevens/Proctor at the helm

7  Macaabra   runs well fresh and it appears Gary Mandella realizes that now......7 weeks fresh today and a rider upgrade to Bejarano.....love this kind as they have to be fully fit and ready to roll as it might be a couple of months till they can compete at a high level once again

3  Llandudno

race 5    slightly above average clarity

8  Chain Lightning   drop today following a MSW debut at GG where this Bonde baby flashed solid early speed.....back home where she has trained.......should be in it from the get go and with a strong speed jock aboard

7  New Nature   improving with every start.........bad trip in last or would have won at today's mdn30K level in her latest.....repeat of her last with a clean trip and she will be very tough here

2  More Stormyweather    seems likely to sit in a nice stalk or mid pack ground saving position and with a positive rider switch.......Spawr has only used Bejarano twice the last couple of months but both runners ran well

6  Moscato Girl

race 6    slightly above average clarity

5  Practising   GB invader won at 1st asking in the USA overcoming a wide trip from a difficult post at one mile on the sod.........better post today and more ground to cover which should be a plus as her pedigree screams......long.......long.......long

3  Cause Im a Bigshot   solid forward move in her latest (with blinkers off) which was her 1st ever running a route of ground.......and like our top pick she is bred to appreciate 1 1/8th.....only race on the grass is just OK but it was with the blinkers on

7  Sweet Bliss   bad trips in both lifetime starts..........her effort in her last at 1 1/16th on the SA dirt fits fine here if she can settle down and run more smoothly back on the grass this afternoon

4  One More

race 7    below average clarity  (only #2 and #4 would surprise me appearing in the winners circle)

5  Winning Fashion    on the improve both in early pace and final time in 5 straight races.........if the tremendous pace this filly set on the sloppy conditions in her latest wasn't fully achieved because of the conditions lookout here as she will be loose once again........ and she........ might never look back they way she keeps improving

8  In Dad's Honor   another on the right end of the learning curve.......hot trainer so my guess is this filly will improve again.........would have been top choice if she hadn't drawn the outer-most 8 post......needs a clever ride from Espinoza.....the one to beat if he gives it

6  Indygo F M A   only lifetime race on the SA dirt wasn't much but it was early in her career.......recent works on it suggest she can handle the surface........fits fine if she does......and retains Stevens

3  A P Pepper

race 8    average clarity

2  Always a Chance   consistent late runner on the grass seemingly gets a good spot here as there appears to be plenty of early speed here to enhance and flatter her late run.........and Bejarano remains aboard for the 4th straight time.....rather rare occurrence riding for O'Neill

4  Blushing Martha   good history down the majestic Santa Anita Hill turf course with Tyler Baze up (3 1 1 1).....seems likely to stalk a hot pace and attempt to pass the leader dome the stretch

7  Julio's Gold   versatile sort owns a record (on turf - conventional dirt - AW) of 4 wins - 3 2nd's - 1 3rd over her last 9 races......pressed the pace done the hill in last and likely would have won if she wasn't pushed out badly into the lane......sharp reassuring work since

5  I'm Tops

8  Tribal Chatter

9  Le Fascinator
