Santa Anita for Sunday 13 April 2013

Somewhat abbreviated comments as I am dealing with the flu (hopefully flu) for the 1st time in about 30 years. Incredibly stupid move not getting my flu shot especially considering my son is a Pharmacist who administers them. This has been the hardest week of handicapping that I can ever recall as my head wants to explode. So far it hasn't.

Santa Anita is taking a small needed break. No racing until next Saturday.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

6  Muchos Besos    five speed types and one off pace runner in this fellow......handicapping 101

3  Bluegrass Reward   Javier Sierra runners have been firing on all cylinders the last few weeks and especially when Blanc rides

4  Prime Issue   consistent sort sure is training well for his new trainer Diodoro with 3 consecutive (in control) 100:1H works.......seems meant and ready

race 2    average clarity

1  Redressthebalance   lone win for this filly since O'Neill took over was sprint to route........layoff sprint in last with Arias up.....route today with Bejarano up........hmmmm

7  Fantastic Mizz   fits well whenever she is placed at the 40K-50K level.........seems best at today's one mile turf distance

2  Zipping My Way   seems best on the grass and gets back to it.........still unproven running a route but sure should get a ground saving trip at least thru turn one and that is 1/2 the battle

5  Le Fascinator

race 3    average clarity

3  Vindicted Ruler  significant early speed here and T C Baze up......that combo has been deadly this week......five year old can stalk if need be

6  Queen Of The Hill   6F and SA are a good fit (6 1/2F is too much for her).......lousy trip in last or would have won for fun

2  Firendesire   filly really responds to Maldonado and basically nobody else........and this filly is 3 for 8 at today's distance and 0 for 10 at any other distance

1  I'm Tops

race 4    average clarity

3  Stormy Lucy   won a Grade 2 in last as our top connections for today and a Grade 3......easy to make top pick once again

2  Miss Serendipity   last time this mare saw 1 1/4 on the sod was in Arg in a Grade 1 where she romped by 4L at 10 to 1

7  Customer Base   lifetime best and a winning race was the only time this Proctor mare ran at today's mini-marathon distance of 1 1/4.....that race fits here if she is up for it once again today

8  Topic

race 5    slightly above average clarity

3  Cat Burglar   done little wrong in 4 lifetime races at SA (4 2 2 0)........appreciates 6 to 8 weeks between starts and gets it

5  Big Kick   wired on a strong rail bias in last but at least he did it with a very stout set of fractions.......big threat once again to wire if the track is conducive to speed again today which lately is about a 60/40 proposition

6  Govenor Charlie  ran out of his mind as a 3 year old.....searching for that form these days.......might be getting close to now or never territory

1  Oilisblackgold

race 6    average clarity

5  Kochess   might be at his very best on the SA hill........solid 3rd down the hill two races back losing to two horses who would likely clobber this field......and back to Bejarano who rode that day

1  Oliver's Tale   five year old might be slipping but if he needed his layoff last he might be very tough here 1st on the grass which he has adequate breeding for

8  Monument   kind of runs evenly with a lack of pop late......but like our top pick this likely is the softest alw race down the hill that he has been part of....might grind away and get there late

3  This One's For Mel

race 7    average clarity

9  Head South   seems like a sharp claim by Palma who happens to be rather hot right super for the new connections.......and we get a major league rider upgrade

5  Justification   ice cold barn.....but red hot works........laid up for a year but sure likes SA and is working too well to be ignored

10  Romar Success   another runner who has been away for a long time.....returns as a 1st time gelding and sure is training as if has done him a world of good

1  Bench Press

race 8    average clarity

8  Lakerville   love watching this stellar turf sprinter ( 8 5 3 0 sprinting on the turf) finish as he sure can turn it on late.....very sharp 5F drill is most reassuring

6  Zimmer   should be up close in a race that might yield a soft pace.......solid here if the soft pace does occur

5  Sweep Swap   same scenario as the 6 horse

7  Pure Tactics

race 9    average clarity

5  A Little Luckier   Gaines is tough 3rd out after layoffs and that is the case here......logical drop from MSW to the bottom mc level for a filly with some physical issues

3  Kid Rollins   Proctor filly chased a Baltas 4 to 5 shot around the track for a distance 2nd......nobody like the 4 to 5 shot in this field

8  Itsabeautifulday   fell off some in last.....needs a rebound to her effort shown 2 or 3 races back

6  Cleverly Beverly

7  Sheza Eyeopener

4  Nonna Reese
