For those of you planning on purchasing our special ($31.50) full card selections for Churchill Downs on Derby Day, May 3rd please don't procrastinate as logistically it makes in easier on yours truly setting up the emails that will be sent at about 6 p.m. central time on Friday night, May 2nd. Thank you.

Because so many of you have to leave the house early in the morning Saturday's Santa Anita card will be posted some time tonight.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

5  Mahalo Princess   drops 2nd out after the claim........seems best of the 3 speed types and only has 5 1/2F to stick around

2  Firendesire   exits a fast heat of bottom level F & M open claimers where getting beat by 8L still was a par like run..........mid pack runner seemingly gets enough early pace up front to be in the mix when it counts

3  Vindicated Ruler   1 for 1 at 5 1/2 furlongs......0 for 7 at other distances..........blinkers off for today and a vastly improved recent work hints at a positive form reversal

race 2    slightly below average clarity

1  Hobbits Hero   beat older horses in his latest in a 6 1/2 furlong turf race down the majestic Santa Anita hill grass course......runs and is bred as if one mile on the turf is within his reach.....should welcome a return to a three year old (only) affair

4  Go Black Tie   seems well spotted at the $50K level.........1st time running as a gelding and he is working decently hinting the surgery has done some good

5  Papa's Paisley   last two conventional dirt two turn races fit fine if this three-year-old gelding can duplicate the effort in his 1st ever grass race........owns a so so pedigree for the green carpet

7  Prince of Paris

race 3    slightly above average clarity

3  Yard Line   both lifetime races were very strong sprint efforts both in real time fig and (especially) adjusted for trouble and pace factor fig.......1st at route but bred very well to handle one.......retains Bejarano who is off of our 2nd pick

2  Rprettyboyfloyd   another with multiple very strong efforts......amazing he is still a maiden......of course running in a Grade 1 and a Grade 2 as a MSW doesn't exactly help your chances of getting a diploma.........and I believe a bad move in most cases as it doesn't teach them what winning is all about

1  A Red Tie Day   only 4 year old in the race and he is on the improve.......needs even more today........not impossible to get it with Ron Ellis at the helm as Ellis has had his best California meeting in many a moon

4  Missing Groom

race 4    average clarity

3  On The Backstreets   2 for 2 on the Santa Anita hill and the two efforts averaged par.......and par is good..........especially in a specialty type of race like the SA 6 1/2 furlong hill is

1  Clenor   solid grass three-year-old filly is better suited for a turf route but if there ends up being an honest pace in this hill affair she likely will be passing many if not all in the stretch......seems like about a 50/50 proposition she will get the needed pace to compete at a high level

2  Sushi Empire   has run well in both lifetime races on the SA hill and her first effort run in early October is disguised by a very bad trip........a lot like our 2nd choice in that she needs a little heat up front to strut her best stuff in the late stages

race 5    average clarity

3  Twelve Folds   not sure this mare can run off of such a wake-up powerful run (both in pace in final time) that her last race was.........but...........she will be plenty tough if she can...........somewhat reassuring to see her work twice for  her new trainer since her last

1  Lemon de Oro   best preparatory works for a laid up Bill Spawr runner in a very long time.......first ever on the conventional dirt.........but...........the way in which she is training on the SA main track says the new surface won't hurt her chances and might enhance them

2  Clearly Confused   slowly improving sort has won her last four of five.......and........owns 2 wins and 2 seconds at today's distance........just snatched at the claiming box by Richard Baltas who has done quite well with his claims the past year (Big Macher & Rangi being his best two).......good sign he gets Bejarano to ride who won for fun on this filly 2 back

7  D'ya Knowwhatimean

race 6    average clarity

8  Euroclydon   has only been on the conventional dirt twice in her young career and the two races stand out as her two best.....and they both are hidden by poor trips.....nice 5F drill just 5 days ago.....feels good

3  Swiss Heart   on the improve of late and looks like she ought to get a nice ground saving stalk position........would have been top pick if this was a 6F affair like her very solid last but it is 1/2 furlong further and she looks like she will flatten some late

6  Hanna No Sir   debut race run on 5 January fits.......been away since.........sure should fly from the opening bell with 9 lbs less on her back if of course she is as ready as she was in her sure seem good enough to be ready

4  Roman Wild

race 7    slightly above average clarity

10  Will True Up   suspicious drop for this laid up gelding.......but in this case this is a runner that I wouldn't want to claim but could support at the windows.......Peter Miller is stout with laid off drop downs when they work well......and the works here sure are good

1  Pass the Pico   nice improvement since arriving in the Canani barn two races back.......and the drills since his last (especially the 36 flat breezing 4 days ago) indicate another move in the desired direction may occur this afternoon

4  Sheer Talent   sheer talent no......some talent......yes.......and he has the potential for more today as a 1st time gelding......especially a 1st time gelding who is working as if the ultimate equipment change has done him some good

5  Maximinus

Long-shot consideration:   3  Tenkiller Kid   not much in last but previous 3 fit.....likes to run wide and wide runners did well yesterday most likely caused by the nasty temps.

race 8    slightly below average clarity

1  Marcyjane   clunker at 1 mile on the grass when last seen in early Nov.......but previous 2 one mile grass endeavors are solid......and the five-year-old mare is rather good fresh......6 months "fresh" today

4  Sweet Red Cat   no shot to show her best in her last two races since being laid up since 13 June 13........sat off a snails pace so no shot to close.....then in her next she was blocked bad or might have scored her 3rd lifetime victory......and a jock up grade for today

3  Mom Nana   would have been 2 for 2 at 1 mile on the grass if she hadn't been disqualified to 2nd in her 2nd mile grass race.......and she is 1 for 2 at a mile on the wins or 2nd's at other distances......1 mile today on the grass today

6  Lilbourne Eliza

race 9    average clarity

8  Midnight Mayhem   back to Richard Baltas after a switch to a very unsuccessful new to the scene East Coast conditioner who I guess has left town move by the connections after a bad move........1st time gelding.....good know I like that

11  Van Fraassen   two lifetime races out of five for this disappointing $300K purchase fit well at today's bottom level maiden claimer.....those two races are the only two efforts that this colt has run on the conventional dirt at SA

4  Coast Guard Patrol   33 to 1 (in a six horse field) in a MSW race at GG says gimme city........showed some life after breaking slowly closing the gap 2 1/4 lengths from the 1st call to the finish

1  Goyan

3  Thunder Echo

6  Code of Pleasure
