Santa Anita for Thursday 8 May 2014

Fairly decent card today. Let's call it a 6 1/2 on the 1 to 10 scale.

Best of luck as always!

Race 1    slightly above average clarity

2  Kyankes   not one dull workout showing and 8 listed drills put has tossed 3 winners from 3 starters and all them preciously were able to win at two.....good trainer/rider combo of late

8  Desert Steel   very fast drills for this Callaghan 1st timer.....rather sure she can fly and she better as the turn comes up awfully quick in these abbreviated 4 1/2 furlong sprints for the babies.......would have been top choice if she had a better post

1  Sea Mona   definitely working well enough to have a shot here........I like that she worked 1/2 furlong longer than the distance of today's race.......likely to finish up well

6  Lookin for Money

race 2    slightly above average clarity

3  Juliets Tizzy   O'Neill runner drops into maiden claiming following 4 mediocre efforts in the MSW well at Bsr and the trainer is firing on all cylinders of late

6  This Cat's Awesome   suspicious drop in last and he failed to some extent.........but.........1st time gelding for today so maybe it is his mind and not his body that made Sherlock drop should answer the question

5  Secret Wishes   solid race 2 back albeit on the grass.......bred just fine to handle conventional dirt.........James Cassidy had a good week last week and might keep the ball rolling here

race 3    average clarity

6  A Toast For You   rider upgrade especially for a race down the hill........five-year-old gelding has 7 out of 10 SA hill efforts that fit well here at the $50,000 claiming level........Miller seems to be in drop mode to some degree

5  The Cleaners   greater success for this gelding since the blinkers were added 4 races back......and the switch to T C Baze in his last race sure produced a better effort.......back in short rest and the only time this fellow ran off of "short rest" he won by 3 1/4 lengths

1  Luckarack   very consistent off pace runner on any surface just worked a nice best of 18 5/8ths drill at Golden Gate......seems very likely to fire a solid race once again

7  Royal F J

race 4    slightly below average clarity

6  Cousin Ricky   definitely on the right end of the learning curve and his latest effort is disguised by a 3 wide trip up on a decent pace.......drop of one level doesn't bother me too much as Mullins has won his last 3 of 4 dropping off of a win

5  Bushwacked   tossed a clunker in his last.......strong effort two back in a 16K down to 14K which he was in pull back to 12.5K makes sense after running up the track for 25K in the aforementioned clunker

3  Colton's First   time/figs at Tup fit at today's 12,500 level......Arizona invader might have enough early gas to snatch the lead here and with a good speed jock aboard in T C Baze

race 5    average clarity

4  Jennyway U Want It   fell off a few lengths in her last but recent a.m. work and a rider upgrade point to a rebound.....1st at a route but bred nicely to get the one mile turf distance

7   Seraphic Slew   nice effort 2 back in 2nd lifetime start and 1st at a route and on the turf.......tossed a clunker in her 3rd lifetime start........improved recent 6F drill hints at a it 60/40 in favor of a rebound

3  Unusual Style   on the right end of the learning curve and now we get a positive rider switch especially for a route grass race.......5th lifetime route grass race today and it is the 1st time ever this filly got to start at anything other than a far outside post......such a deal

2  Princecesskatiebella  (tie for 4th)

10  Lethal Story  (tie for 4th)

race 6     slightly below average clarity

7  Born Lucky   big effort/fig last time turf to dirt........that is the scenario here.......improved rent work and one hot trainer/rider combo in Perez/Diodoro

4  Acute   lead type only will need to peel off the 5 horse early and if she can she will have a decent chance to make it 3 for 3 at a route......1st out after the Glatt claim.........Glatt is decent 1st out following a claim

1  Awe' Some Kitten   seems likely to get a nice grounding saving stalk or mid pack position thru turn one......woke up some in latest and the work since suggests her top form might be returning

2  Magic Number

race 7    average clarity

7  Tiz A Kiss   last sure appears to be a public sprint turf workout.....and........the effort put in by this Sadler grass cutter two races back way back in Sept. is extremely strong and hidden by a very bad trip...........broke poorly and ran way too recent 5F near bullet drill......all set with the winning Kentucky Derby jock up

2  Irenes Jackpot    somewhat of a rider upgrade.......blinkers off and a nice work tab hinting the equipment is a plus and a plus for a mare that just ran a par like effort and did it at today's same one mile turf distance.......same or better seems highly likely today

5  Mangita   Gryder is in the slump of his life on the grass.......can start a reversal of sorts here if he chases the 4 horse and doesn't attempt to go with him....seems cooked if he does.........continues to work like a happy healthy filly for Bruce Headley

3  Water Issues

race 8    average clarity

6  Superboot   not much support (7 to 1 in a 6 horse field) for this GB invader of Hollendorfer's in his 1st in the USA.......blinkers on and two straight bullet works and drops......cut back of 1/2F also seems like a plus

10  Stealth Fighter   not much at all in 3 lifetime starts.........but he has always trained like he can run some especially lately........9 weeks off for Bruce Headley to get the gelding's head on straight and get him to duplicate his a.m. prowess in the p.m.

11  Tasha's Courage   best at today's abbreviated sprint distance of 5 1/2F.....3 2nd's in 3 races at 5 1/2F......but is usually not good out of the gate.....only one good break out of 5 lifetime starts.......logically best ever was the race in which he left the green monster well

5  No Barneys

3  Flew Flicker

4  Dark Timbers
