Santa Anita for Sunday 18 May 2014

Getting awfully exciting now that California Chrome has won leg two of the Triple Crown. Many have won the first two legs the last few decades by none have gone into the Belmont rattling off 6 straight convincing wins in a row. That seems significant.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

(note: no. 9 is dangerous if draws into the field)

5  My Fiona   nice tightly spaced work series hitting the track every 6 or 7 days since 9 March......W Solis is dangerous in these early baby races

6  Take back Spring   best effort of those that have raced so far......compromised by a bump at the start and running too wide

7  Desert Thief   lousy history for Dominquez with 1st starters but the drills for his 1st timer are too good to ignore

3  City Ride

race 2    average clarity

7  Remarkable Moon   needs firm turf and needs the blinkers to be off......blinkers on and good rated turf in two 1 1/4 grass races.....toss them out......loves 1 1/8 and bred to cherish the 1 1/4

5  Scooter Bird   the further the better for this Sadler runner......so 1 1/4 should be right up her alley as it was 3 back when she ran her best fig/effort ever

4  Tiz the Key    impressive win off of the long hiatus from racing........bred awfully well for1st on the sod........and.........the strenuous distance of 10 furlongs for a 3 year old filly in May

6  Amnesia

race 3    average clarity

2  Kings Adventure   best set of drills for a Jeff Mullins 1st timer in many a moon.......rather sure ready to roll

7  Hall of Fame   Baffert three year old 1st timer has the kind of work tab that has meant and ready written all over it

6  Rough Passage   on the right end of the learning curve and Mulhall's stock has been running better of late

1  Shakahari

race 4    average clarity

2  My Monent   solid move forward 1st out following the claim by Papaprodromou......decent pedigree to handle 1st at a route......shot to be 3 for 3 to start career

7  Sweetrayofsunshine   on quite a roll with 4 wins and 2 2nd's in last 6 races.........continues to train like a happy healthy individual for Bill Spawr

4  Quinnette   likes running turf to dirt to produce best......turf to dirt today for Ron Ellis who is having a nice 2014

6  Browsing

race 5    slightly below average clarity

8  Advisory   on the improve since switching to the grass and I sure like the work series in preparation for today's race

3  Indygo Andy   48 to 1 in last hints Sadler was just trying the grass to see what his colt could do with his so so pedigree for the grass.......turns out he ran on it well and today he gets a positive rider switch

5  Jackson Sundown   improving GG invader has wanted turf in his last two but they were both moved to the main track........no rain in sight so he gets the sod today......and is nicely bred for

1  Street Maven

race 6    average clarity

3  Irish and Lucky   bad trip in maiden debut hides a decent run.....and the work-outs since are improved.....dangerous 2nd timer and likely will go off a price

2  Broadway Bella   Canani is extremely dangerous MSW to maiden claiming which is the case here.......big bullet drill just 5 days ago seems to have this filly primed and ready

6  Patriotic Brother   decent looking works for this Biancone 1st timer and he draws Desormeaux.......seems dangerous

4  Ipolita

race 7    average clarity

8  Husband's Folly   better runner at 1 1/8th or further......so......good spot for 1st out after the claim for Carava........rider/trainer teamed up for a win with a 1st timer yesterday

4  Mr. Candy Bar   better gelding since the blinkers were put on 2 races back......and the cut back of one grass furlong less sure appears to be a plus

6  Accelerant   nasty duel at 1 1/4 on the sod in last.......did well to only get beaten by 4 1/2L........jock upgrade for today

3  Vibrato Jazz

Long-shot consideration:   1  Harlington Night   not much in last but awfully strong bullet work since just 5 days ago.....very dangerous if handles his 1st ever on the sod

race 8    slightly above average clarity

1  Let Faith Arise   been facing better in Grade 1's and Grade 2's.......shot to pick up 2nd Graded win today in a softer Grade 3......highly likely to be ultra stout here

9  Warren's Veneda   has a shot if she fires her effort 4 back and gets a better trip.......last sure looks like a gimme.....shot at the upset if it was a "gimme" and she gets a decent trip

8  Spellbound   3 for 5 at Santa Anita on the main track......did beat our top pick on Jan. 19th......been absent for 2 months but is training as if ready

4  Yahilwa

race 9    slightly below average clarity

3  On Draft   sure like slow developing horses for Peter Eurton like this colt.......good trip likely thru turn 1 as Gutierrez usually stays inside on the grass when he draws inside

4  I'll Wrap It Up   big forward move with 1st time Delgadillo in last......and has the right to improve 2nd out after the layoff

6  Kristo   back to reality following an attempt in the "Wood" at Aqu following a 13L beaten 3rd in a Grade 2 at SA...........hmmmm.........1st on the turf with a good pedigree for it.....needs a confidence builder and might get it in an alw race

9  Home School

Long-shot consideration:   1 Life's Journey   better longer on the grass but rider upgrade and blinkers on......good post and equipment change to put this colt into the race earlier on......if that occurs she can be tough at the 1 mile distance

race 10    average clarity

1  Wine Country Wanda   last two 7F efforts fit well for the level.....1st at a route but has low weight and a good post to overcome a so so pedigree to handle two turns

5  Dirty Blonde   not much in 4 lifetime races but takes that ever dangerous drop from MSW racing to maiden claiming

12  Up The Alley   Cody Autrey OP invader is well spotted to win.......would have been top pick if it wasn't for drawing such a nasty route post

4  Classic Candy

9  Wilma Honey

11  Itsabeautifulday
