Santa Anita for Saturday 24 May 2014

OK card for today and it looks similar for Sunday at first glance.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

6  Xuang Feng   best on conventional dirt........best at today's 5 1/2 furlong distance...........and gets in lightest with successful bug boy up.......step up of two claiming levels indicates Peter Miller thinks he is doing well

4  Hamiltonian   invader was declining when last seen on April 14 at Tup..........gelding changes hands to Diodoro and as so often occurs with a new trainer there is a significant drop in claiming (not sure if it is the case here but often the "new trainer" demands the horse race where they can win as part of the agreement to take the new horse)

1  Close to the Edge   another horse who drops a couple of levels........"claim me please" or cut the loses as he was taken 4 races back for 20K by Carava with little success since

2  Forin Sea

race 2    average clarity

5  Snowday   won a Grade 3 in France at two and did not embarrass himself in some Grade 1 races........last Sept he shipped in from overseas and most likely would have won a Grade 3 at SA down the hill but bleed badly from his nostrils......might have bad memories and/or might be given a tune-up to keep things less stressful.........but he sure will be the one to beat if he runs last year's race and doesn't once again bleed over Lasix

1  Rangi   hard to argue with a smooth looking runner who is (5 1 3 1) in his last 5 turf sprints and the most he has been beaten for the win is 1 1/4 lengths........needs to avoid a suicidal speed duel with the 4 horse one way or another

3  Stormberg   might sit in a nice mid pack position in what might be the place to be if the 2 and the 4 lock horns early.....layoff last wasn't bad and I would rate it about a 50% chance he moves forward 2nd out after the layoff

race 3    average clarity

7  Onna Bugeisha   1st or 2nd in her 3 races on the SA dirt running solid figs and those numbers were supported by some big gaps to 3rd and 4th in those races......continues to train like a happy healthy individual for Carla Gaines

5  Consecrate   wide trip in last on a decent inside day somewhat hides an impressive forward move in last.......off pace style seems like an advantage in this field of 7 with multiple speed types

6  Buckingham Bull   Cerin filly won her lone start on the SA dirt running off of a turf race.......so with that in mind her latest on the grass likely was a turf tightener to once again attempt to win turf to dirt today

4  Sweet Factory

race 4    slightly below average clarity

3  Warren's Tricia R.   seems best in a soft looking field of state-bred mdn50K runners.........improving with each start and continues to train forwardly..........should be in the race from the get go

1  Princesskatiebella   one decent MSW route race.......one weak MSW route race........but more importantly takes that ever dangerous sometimes magical drop from MSW racing to mdn claiming.....switches to the dirt for her 3rd lifetime strt and I would say she is bred better for the dirt

9  Desert Madam   broke poorly in mc debut and then showed some life following the slow start.......blinkers on today to help her focus........her trainer Sean McCarthy is much better with 2nd time starters than 1st time starters.....seems dangerous

8  Peg's Journey

race 5    average clarity

1  Magic School   2 for 2 on the grass with both races being impressive wire to wire efforts from the 2 post....so the one hole seems like a good place to make it 3 for 3 on the sod especially with a lack of speed from his foes

8  Front Range   solid effort/fig on the dirt in 2nd lifetime start..........and this Baffert filly is better bred for the green carpet.......tough post but might have enough early speed to clear many by the turn and hopefully at least get 2 wide by turn 1

7  Cause Im a Bigshot    done little wrong in 3 lifetime routes (two on the turf and one on the dirt) when not wearing blinkers which is the case today........recent drills seem improved hinting at more a move forward

9  Practisin

race 6    average clarity

4  J Serino   monster awakening in last and very stout bullet 5/8ths drill........seems likely for more today and more will make this Cassidy runner tough

9  Yard Line   very strong efforts/figs in all 3 lifetime races.......too good not to have graduated....very solid once again here if he can hold form for a 4th consecutive race

5  Big Cazanova   another stout runner with two strong grass routes to his credit in the USA so far........seemed equally as good on the dirt in Per and Arg

3  Midnight Storm

race 7    average clarity

3  Bright Thought   loves the lead and loves the lead in turf marathons.......seems like to get get the front end here

9  Dr. Action    20 to 1 for a good looking Miller import in a small Stakes affair at SA strongly suggest the race was a tune-up for today......and the solid work series since supports the notion

4  African Oil   nice forward move with the blinkers on in latest........1st at 1 1/4 this afternoon but his pedigree suggests the further he goes the better

2  Quick Casablanca

race 8    average clarity

3  Winninginfashion   lead type only needs his effort (albeit run on an off surface) two race back and should wire if she can produce it

8  Brandon Princess  on the right end of the learning curve and seems likely to keep the trend going.......great chance for Amelia Green to get her first lifetime win

6  Incredible Journey   logical drop as this filly isn't getting it done at the filly 25K nw2 level....those efforts fit fine at today's lower level

4  Classic Journey

race 9    average clarity

5  It Is Living Water   better than par in last two endeavors......and the trainer has awoken from the doldrums......good rider/trainer team to boot.....seems likely to be solid here

9  Wicked Heat   Colon might have made a good claim on May 1st as this gelding sure improved in his latest......bred well for the grass and the distance

3  Sun Spots     1st time gelding and a vastly improved work hint that the surgery did some good......owns some dangerous early speed on the sod if he and his jockey can keep things under control

1  Chattering Gambler

11  Durango Flier

6  Tuff Storm
